Thread: SWORDSMEN'S ROUND TABLE: On weapons...
my opinion on this is that we DO NOT need any more samuri swords or katanas. The 2 handed curved sword is all we need for the katana genre. I think that we should take the Double Bladed Broadsword idea and have it do about 70-320 damage and 4.0-4.4 speed with some SERIOUS wound chance, like 40-50%, and kinetic or electric damage. We do not need heat, cold, acid, or stun damage.

omfg, I want a stun weapon, the fencers have one!!
Very few creatures have a resistance to stun, and almost NO players have it in their armor, I would like a low damage stun weapon.
I know its probably difficult for the devs to implement, but I would like to see multiple damage types, eg Kenetic AND Blast damage. Simply meaning, that if I physically hit you with my powerhammer, your gonna take BOTH types of damage!
Probably wont see any light, but anyway, onto weapons..
I would have to agree with most of the other posters, we need a PH equiv sword, possably with the ability to craft it with multiple different damage types, eg Cold, Heat, Elect, blast etc. Other professions have the ability toswap and change weapons to suit the mobs they are fighting. For example, if a mob was 100% resist on Blast and 100% on kenetic, we as swordsmen are stuffed!
The devs are always on about trying to make SWG a more tactical game where you need to think rather than simply spam specials, well maybe they should start by giving us weapons that give us more scope and tactical abilities! Even if the PH was craftable with multiple damage types, I personally would be happy with that for a while, but as Swordsmen, we definatly lack swords!
ldwater i know what you are saying with the dual damage types on a weapon, but i honestly think that a double based damage like kinetic and stun wouldnt be in a hammer, or in a sword, but another heavy weapon, the axe. kinetic because of the sharpened blade, and blast because of the weight of the axe. but the thing is the axe would have to be quite heavy in order to do such, and thus is where we come in as we specialize in heavy weapons. i am not saying make an axe our best weapon, but just make a decent one for us, it would do massive damage, but have a base speed of6.0 to 7.0,so asto make it not overpowering, and have the same range mods as a powerhammer, about -28 to -35 or so. that is what i propose. if they were to give a weapon that had two different attack types. even then make it slower or something if what i suggested isnt balancing enough for a weapon that would do both damage types.
and then we would have the sword that is about 4 to 4.5 speed that does just shy of the powerhammer, and then we would have some other sword for the people that want a fast and light attack. or whatever the devs see fit as weapons of any type. just so long as we get weapons.
i'd like to see a variety of meshes of different style swords, ranging from the simple to the bizzaar, big 2bladed broadswords, no daisho, flamberge, a more extravegant cleaver, a short hafted axe, thin bladed vibro-swords etc. Speed and damage reflecting the image of the sword, obviously constucting components will vary the stats of weapons considerably.
As far as damage types go, this could be dependant on the construction of the core of the sword. depending what is used here and how that is made will affect the damage type of the blade. obviously the brunt of the blow will be kinetic, but with a secondary effect of a different type. this IS star wars and technology is at crafters disposal... a power core in the grip that heats or freezes the blade? an injection mechanism from rivulets in the blade that can apply poison or acid? an ultrasound device in the head of a hammer to cause stun? finally using the rancor teeth effectively to make a true kinetic only vicious sword.
more variety gives more character, allows swordsmen to look more distinctive image wise and have a richer variety of damage types. plus oodles of fun and experimentation for weaponsmiths.
And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can we have a scabbarded mesh to go next to our backpacks when not in use [swordsman only perk, TKA's get to look cool with their meditate pose, i wanna look cool too]

i think weaponsmiths shuld be able to color customize weapons like they do with armor. i just think that would be a way to make eeryones weapon diffrent and would be cool looking weapons.
also i want a scythe i mean the nightsisters use them now why can't we /pout
colouration was the other point i wanted to say, even just hilt colour, or a coloured sheen to the blade.
could get one to match my armour and tattoo's then.
as things are today being heavey swordsmen
we actually have just 1 weapon and thats the cleaver. Thats the only thing that looks remotely like a heavey sword. So all we need is swords BIG SWORDS. even the 2h curved is more somthing for a fencer then a swordsman. So if it was up to me ide be gone with hammers axes and the likes and get some more cleaver like weapons for this class. But then again thats just my opinion.

Lots of nice ideas. But for all of you non-SWgeeks can I make one suggestion? Before you suggest swordsman weapons please research online actual SW melee weapons, such as swords, and suggest from THOSE which you would like. We don't want this turning into something wacky. Generally what I'd like to see is a actual Vibro-sword. The Vibroblade we have in game was done very well for the one handed users. The Vibro-sword would be our cup of tea. A great example of swords that we could use in the Swordsman profession could be experienced while playing SW: Knights of the old Republic. As this game takes place a long time ago when melee weapons in SW were more common.
Also, vibro weapons are NOT electric. It's still kinetic damage. Vibro weapons are like any normal blade except they have a motor that causes the blade to....vibrate. The vibration is very subtle and cant really be seen, its making the blade move very quickly and can easily lacerate someone. It's like cutting at someone with a delicate looking chainsaw! They're very lethal weapons. We have a vibro-axe, but there are way too many axes in our profession.
The fact of the matter is there arent TOO many significantly different swords in SW EU. You'd have to get a few basics and perhaps a few exotic blades (like the Scythe, or Jar'Kai dueling swords)
Main suggestion? LEts start with something reasonable: Vibro-sword. Just like the one handed curved an the two handed curved. The Vibro-sword could simply be a much longer vertical extension of the Vibroblade. Though the tip of the blade doesnt necessarily have to be that curved as in the Vibroblades case.
Ok, My Ideas for Heavy "Swords"man type weapons :
Heavy Cleaver - A bigger Cleaver ![]()
Scythe - Duh? When? heh
Double Bladed Sword/Staff - Probably fall into the Pikeman domain...Basicly two swords attached End to End...Then again we have a Power hammer and Scythe(Again, when?)
Long Katana - FF7 Sephiroth Style

Mace - Some kind of Flexible weapon....Think a Stick with a Chain and a Heavy Multi Spiked head attached to the end.....Everyone Sawweapon the Big Blackguyhad in Return of the King
(this is the waepon i would LOVE to see the most)
Iron Cane - The heavy gold short poleweapon used in Crouching tiger hidden dragon. Definitly a heavy sword weapon...Long version would be an iron staff ![]()
Sectional Sword - a Heavy sword thatis used like a whip, it is Broken in to short segment and interconected by a Cord or Chain....As Seen in Brotherhood of the Wolf or soul caliber![]()
Broad swords - any Type of basic long sword....Hell Just a Straight forward Long Sword as seen in any other Game ![]()
....More exotic versions of any weaponwould havenames and damage types like: Vibro Long Sword(electrisity), Long Plasma Sword(Heat), Long Cryoban Sword(Cold), Long Shock Sword(Electricity-Stun)...Hell they should do this with alot of all the already existing weapons.
If they Just add the Scyth We have all been Waiting on and a Mace *With ConsistantlyVery highdamage(Close min and max damage -eg 900-1100 damage
) and a Very long delay that actualy hits well* andi will be more then Satisfied ![]()
