Good point about the ranged weps - I am keeping Pistol 2 around for a while so I can use me scout blaster hehe; also have carbine, but I'm going to have to give up some points eventually, oh well.

The cool thing about sending a pet in is that it will tie up at least one of a group of ranged NPCs.

And if I read one of the posts above correctly, you do not need to have CH skills to use a Rock Beetle - just need a trained pet hehe. Anyone can use em.

I think a lot of the above replies missed the point. the problem is:

a. the /follow command is not "tight" enough if the target is slowly moving.

b. there is undisplayed lag that makes the target look like it's in range but it is slightly not.

if you have ever played next to a friend in the same room you will notice that the positions you have to each other are drastically different from each computer (5-15m!). this will cause big trouble for eventual jedi players, and unfortunately, i dont think developers will care until people start unlocking their FS character.

The positioning problems need to be fixed when engaged in combat. Client updates to the server needs to be boosted, for example. This is a crucial life or death situation, we need better position updates!

Get a player made CDEF weapon.

Then you don't have to chase almost dead things (though you could use the 2h lunge which has a range of 15m...should be plenty).

I know people like to complain but really swords users are one of the best classes out there.

Played right we can do more damage to more people in a shorter timethan anyone else.

Having a CDEF weapon also assists in pulling agro mobs from range. Here is what I do:

1) With my power hammer equipped, press Attack

2) Switch to pistol, pause for a few seconds, then switch back to power hammer

3) Switching to pistol causes mobs to start running towards me

This works really well, particularly in groups. When I pull, I get all the agro, which is great, since typically I can withstand the most hits.

I had been using traps to pull instead of a pistol, but now that I have given up all ranger and most scout in favor of Doctor, my traps don't hit, and when they don't hit, they don't pull. Just briefly switching to pistol does the trick every time, and works so well I am going to make a macro to do it.

Another trick: if you are being hit by humanoid mobs with a ranged weapon and don't want to charge up to them due to agro, switch to a ranged weapon, and back up out of their range. The humanoid that had been attacking you with range weapon will switch to melee and come running at you.

Have you tried running PAST your target? I never use /follow, I just keep running towards the mob, and a bit beyond. The sword has some range, and since I don't collide with mobs, I just run right past them as they run and whack them as they move passed. Never really had ap roblem being kited.

I do the same with players...only problem is if they zig-zag...thenit all goes to hell.

I agree that there's waaaaaaay to much lag and disparity between the client and the server, but that's just my little workaround.

Hide behind a tree, right in the middle. They'll stop running and shooting, and come to you. Once they turn the corner of the tree, show them the error of their kiting ways. Works everytime.

That's a new one to me...hehe

The situation is definitely in need of being taken care of.

Yet it's good to see some sort of workarounds for it meanwhile.

DeTox's "running past" method is definitely something i can confirm. So far i din't have any problems with NPC's or the few PC's regarding this matter by simply runnign past them and cut their way.

I just think that we should be able to attack while we are running! I mean, mobs can do it, why can't we? I don't know how many checks my sword wrote that my butt couldn't cash, and while I'm running, burst or otherwise, the enemy is whacking me! Melee! If mobs can do it why can't Swordsman? Well, that's just what I think...Aloha.

I have no trouble attacking while running. The trouble is staying in range while running.

You can test this on a base or lair. Attack, then hit autorun and go round it in circles, through it, whatever. It will be destroyed.

Discrepancies between client-side position and server-side position make it very difficult to stay in range when both you and your target are moving.
