I'm asking myself in this context the following question:

What is or should an "elite weapon" be?

A weapon which has the best HAM/damage ratio

or

a weapon which let's you hand out most damage but therefore also penalizes you with higher HAM cost (keeping aside the fact that as itis right now HAM costIS too high in general) ?

Because after what i have seen in various posts here the Power Hammer DOES seem to hand out the highest hitpoints, eventhough its HAM cost is too high....

I say one issue that has been mentioned is maybe a reduced HAM depletion skills for all Melee fighters. I started with Polearm, and am almost to Novice Pikeman, but after my Melee Weaponsmith told me the stats on the 2H Curved sword vs. the Vibro Lance, I decided to try out the 2H Profession. I am only Expert 2H but can do the same damage with my Heavy 2H Sword as with my Lance.

This might not be Swordsman specific but I think that it should be mentioned. Specials are was too high in action cost, when you think that Melee fighters have to be in the mix, at Melee with Mobs and in PvP. Most wear Armor as well. It is just way to prohibative.

A few fixes might be in order,

1. Better defensive bonuses to Melee attacks. Melee fighters should not get hit so much with Melee attacks. This is especially true with respect to pistol whip. A trained melee combatant with a large sword and the skill to use it properly should not get pistol whipped. If an attacker is using a ranged weapon in melee combat that ranged attacker should get owned like mad. Its a pistol, a small little piece of metal with no defense from a large sword from 2 meters away. At 50m okay, I see that the pistol has the advantage, but at close range it should be painfully obvious who would take who out.

2. Reduced HAM costs for special moves. I really don't like the HAM costs game wide, so this is a reflection of that idea. You train and you train to gain skill and experience in a weapon. As you get better, you should be taxed less and less by specials HAM costs. I think that this is reflected well in the cert system that we have, but why then are we again hit with a HAM cost stick above the cert requirements? Certs are a way to say that you are skilled and can now use this better weapon that is more difficult to wield. So, HAM costs for special moves need to be taken down. I understand that some moves whould not be able to be used over and over again, but that is what we as professionals are training for, the ability to fight with our weapons. DOn't even get me started on the DH-17's or DL-17's, whatever they are. They are bad, and Swords are much worse.

Anyway, those are my two gripes.

Nice one, Morph.....makes sense to me....

Add a couple of new lower damage/HAM cost swords for newbies and one or more swords with stats comparable to the power hammer to that and we would have a better balance inside the profession as well.....

I like the idea of having a sword "up there" which is powerful, but can only develop it's power and become useful if wielded by a master or near-master.....it would give additional motivation as well i think to take the long path of mastering our profession and would also add some more swords to the SWORDSman profession...

What do you other swordsmen out there think about this ?

(This doesn't mean that i won't implement the other ideas you guys came up with so far, which i am btw very thankful for, but i personally kinda like that idea and would simply like to know what the rest of thecommunity thinks about it. And in the end, as usual, i will anyway post my mail up here 24 hours before sending so we can work together on fine-tuning)

Yes. As it has said a bunch. HAM is terrible. I am a zabrak fully maxed up Quickness and Stamina. Head Hit 3 take 210 Action to do. Thats with an advanced curved sword. All move take over 140ish to do. The reason for a head hit is to target mind. You cant just do it once or else it will be a waste since most the time you attack actioin health. It takes about 800 hp for me too kill white with the stupid move. Now tahts retarded. I think the sword has like 64 A HAM
