Good morning all,

hope you had a successful weekend.

First of all a quick recap about the issues reported last week:

1. Balancing: Improvement of ranged / PVP abilitites needed and tougher defense

2. Negative modifier: further explanation requested

3. Skilltree: "Empty" Expert Finesse box / 2h sweep and 2h area similar

4. Missing scythe

5. New weapons needed to make swordsmen more "swordy"

So to start this week off i wanted to checkif there are any NEW issues out there. In case there are, please post them here.

What i have basically seen posted on this board this weekend were more or less variations of these issues and more solutions how these issues could be solved, which is fine because in case we won't be able to find 5 new issues we can create a follow-up to last weeks mail and add all the other solutions you proposed.

I have also seen some unease abou the planned modifications for "berserk" (check posts on this board and dev tracker). My personnal opinion about this matter is that it might be too early to raise this as an issue: Partly because i think we might have to wait first and see if the consequences are really that devastating and we also should wait and see if on the other side there is some improvement coming out of the issues and solutions we reported, but also becasue i think that a change that has been announced won't be dropped by the devs without having been implemented first. It would maybe be interesting to get a first feedback if any of you happens to be a swordsman on Test Center. But as i already said: this is my PERSONAL opinion (coming though from someone who gains most of his hitpoints by berserking because 2hhit2 doesn't "do it" for him) and my job is to gatherALL you people opinions, find the balance between pro and contras and report them to the Devs. So if you want to see this point implemented in my next mail, please let me know.

Besides that there is already/still a Swordsmen's Round Table post out there regarding a possible issue with the Power Hammer. I would be glad if i could see a little bit more feedback about it to get a better overview about if there really is an issue and it stats need to be revised, but then i don't know how many of you actually own one.

For all of you who are new to this forum and our community: welcome and please refer to my older posts and the devs post about correspondents to see what this is all about.

Happy weilding and a great start into the week

The problem with the Bersker nerf (and don't tell me it's not) is this: right now it's the only special move we can actually move. Our moves KILL US. The HAM usage of 2H sword is about 2-3 times more than a rifleman. A Laser Rifle with a 7 second delay has a Mind usage of 61. Meanwhile our 2H curved sword with a delay of around 2.7 seconds or so, has an action usage of 68!!! We swing twice as fast, yet we use more HAM on each hit.

This is just adding insult to injury because we actually have to tank mobs, whereas marksmen can just run away (unless it's a ranged weapon wielder in which case they might actually get hit *sob*).

Our INSANE HAM usage is just **edit**ed up (there's no other word for it, even though I know the word filter will get it)!!! We do more damage to ourselves than the enemies do to us. The HAM usage of our weapons, particularly the Curved Sword needs to be cut in HALF for us to even be competitive.

If they do that, then the berserk nerf isn't that bad. If not, then we're just all going to have to go around using standard attacks. I don't believe the vision for our class could be that we can't afford to do any specials, while marksmen can special away all day long???

That should read: Berserk is the only special move we can actually do.

i completely agree with nagorak... and that should indeed be our main issue.. our insane HAM cost =/

personally, the only move i do is the sweep attack (the one that lowers enemy posture).

I use that so that i'll get hit half as often.. and i use macro (time it between that and auto attack every 10 secs)...

I tried killing a nym with another pistoleer... he used panic shot the whole time (enemy can't attack) which means i didn't get hit at all and can just damage away... so i figured i'll try using my skills.. started with a 2hmindhit for bleed, then i do nonstop 2hheadhit2.... the pistoleer using panic shot almost beat my mind damage... and the worse thing is.. i couldn't even finish the Nym... he had 600 hp left before my action bar is toasted (i have about 70% average on the action stats, and i'm a bothan.. thats extra to action)....

so he ran away and died from the sword bleed...

but that was just pathetic =/... berserk is the only thing I really use to up my damage... and thats only when i'm grouped with a TKA or gunner with panic shot/pistol whip/dizzy shot or other cheap move...

and they can do their cheap moves way more then we can do our regular specials =P ... ah well..

It's sad, but I just died today because I made the mistake of using 2H mind hit, but I ran out of action when it still had a sliver of life left. I knew half-way through the fight I was in trouble, but I couldn't stop because the chance of getting a random headshot is so low... Almost makes me wish I'd become a fencer.

- Heavyvibro sword needed
- Swordsman should also include heavy 1H swords with reduced HAM damage but reduced attack damage
- there should be more sword options than axe/hammer options in the class
-Swordsman is not necessarily 2H, it's just not a light-handed fencing weapon
- ability to carry energy shields, or normal shields, shields should be able to deflect a certain amount of range damage.
- shields encourage change of weapons (when up against ranged attackers using mindshots, swordsman changes from 2H sword to 1H sword with shield)
- swordsmen, as fitter, strong characters, should be able to outrun and catch non-melee classes ORsticky melee needed to compensate for server lag (especially in PvP)
- master 2H sword should include a run efficiency bonus of 25% (to catch other classes)
- swordsman should get better health and action to compensate for wearing armor.
- melee defense should increase arithmatically with skill; grubbers and butterflies should not be touching a swordsman.. maybe only a slight action damage from defending/evading)
- sword defense I and higher should introduce low HAM cost defensive postures, so that melees can defend successfully but cause less damage (e.g. tank against creatures). e.g. an opposite of "Berserk"
- sword offense I needs stun attack

As i mentioned: i mostly use berserk.....partly because of specials HAM cost, but also because it gives me higher hitpoints than any special.

I was actually wondering, because people on this board mentioned that 2hhit2 could hand out some impressive damage, therefore i thought a certain HAM cost for it would be appropriate. But this isn't the case...at least for me. I thought things would maybe balance out the more you climb up the ladder, therefore i wanted to wait and see first. I also don't have any reference reagarding this subject concerning other classes because swordsman is the only thing i've ever been concentrating on. So thanks for bringing that comparison up Nagorak, i think it gives us a rather obvious point and it would of course be great to see some more comparisons of the like coming in.....

Anyway....wrote this more on a personal note.....but also called in a swordsmen's round table regarding this subject eventhough the outcome seems to be rather clear, but it might help us to get in more comparisons, because pure figures don't lie.

Thanks again for bringing that up.

Thanks Soren....

i have seen your list in the other post and was also planning to implement some of your ideas into my next mail, as, eventhough the week only begins, i'm pretty sure that our next mail will include some kind of follow-up to our last one.

Thanks for the input.

Some good ideas, but I would prefer to keep the class 2 handed. That was what I signed on for - making it heavy 1 handed would take away from the 1 handed tree I think.

Second the HAM thing. Power hammer takes 108 hp for a special. Considering we all have to full suit armor to not get owned in combat, this is way too much =) Maybe if I was a trandotian with 800 str... =)

regarding the "catching" of ranged players in pvp, i'm a swordsman / ranger for specifically this reason. everybody runs from a guy with a big sword, but i move faster than most people, especially if i have a squad leader in my group. I don't think this should be incorporated in the swordsman class at all seeing as how it takes away from other classes. the whole point of the profession system is that you can mix and match, you want movement, take some scout skills. swordsman improvements should focus on class specific abilities like 2 hand toughness or resistance to knockdown or ranged defense, not take away from definingabilities of other professions.

I agree with the hole massive ham thing...but also not that we are not the only class I have learned from reading of the boards and from my PA mates that carbines also suffer from the same problem of massive ham. The devs said something to effect that the problem for carbines had to deal with the stocks increasing in it alot. So that being said on to my next item the power hammer is not the most poweful weapon we use. it is even less useful than the vibro axe. Perhpas Gorecki you can talk with the weaponsmith corespondent on this too from what I've heard all the "elite" weapons are worse than the high middle range weapons. Lastly is our weakness to being knocked down in pvp and weakness vs ranged in general. How in the world is someone suppose to be able to pistol whip someone weilding a sword hmm how worthless is that they can spamthere pistol whip and I cannot even get one move off and I have a 2.4 spd sword.

Pistol whip should not cause knock down. It's ridiculous...you'd be more likely to knock someone down swinging a rifle than a pistol. Did they load their pistols up with lead bricks or something? If so, how come they can still run so fast??
