Thread: SWORDSMEN'S ROUND TABLE: On weapons...
The one thing a lot of people forget is if they want to try and keep the swords "real" as it were with the whole idea of a double sided blade is it would be nice to see a potential to cut yourself with it if you go against say another fencer or swords man, Double sided weapons are very handy but VERY dangerous to the wielder alone.
but i would LOVE to see more axes (just my style)
Sword Mastery - Lets take every sword made in Human history and mold this to star wars lore. Each distinct Race should have swords of "their history."
As a part of this idea, you should get bonuses for using the weapon of that Race. I.E. being a wookie - we should get a Very Very Large 2 Handed Blade that does some range of damage than lets say a bothan - however, the bothans swords would be much faster b/c of their puppy dog stature ![]()
Also, i feel that a Master Heavy Swordsman should get an Elite Weapon only He/she can yeild. A sword that can be made with the type of damage (YOU) want to have done. This would prevent the dabblers from gaining the ability to get lets say - a stun damage - only a master could have a sword crafted with this damage output.
If armor gets blast & kinetic, i want something to cut through armor - make it fair or get rid of the 80% composite armor - it's not even worth my time to pvp anymore.
Thank you for the time.

The History/Race specfic weapons is a neat idea, and would be great if implemented correctly, but it leaves way too much room for imbalance. We already know that the devs have ZERO foresight.
I hear that, the fact that the power hammer is the end of the road for Master Swordsmen is wrong. Sure you can deal out serious pain with a sliced Power Hammer, but I think that custom swords, even if they require a serious upkeep, would make the game more interesting. I plan on keeping Master Swordsmanuntil theynerf it, but every night i praythatHeavy Swordsman gets the same treatment that BE recieved. Then again, thisis SWG not EQ.
The Colonel of Fur
Col-FurBurger, Kauri, Master Heavy Swordsman, Master Scout
that is seen in Knights of the Old Republic?
Also, have more swords at Novice Swordsman
and more at Master Swordsman. By limiting to 1 weapon,
ie. Hammer, is pretty dumb. Going up the tree of
swordsman, we should have different choices of light
swords or heavy swords. Not just hammer at novice.

here is an idea i came up with late, late last night watching conan....
ancient weapons, or something of the like. they are basic weapons that are in their simplest forms, but take mastery of the different levels of swordsman to weild. in techniques it would be a ancient sword (a claymore, or flamberge) in defense it would be an ancient morningstar (a large bludgening weapon that does blast damage) and in offense there would be an ancient axe (a large war axe), and in finesse it would be an ancient samurai sword (reason why i say finesse is because that is exactly what it took to wield a samurai sword finesse.)
the reason why i say they would be certified at master levels is because a swordsman of that calibre would be familiar with weapons of all forms of weapons, and they would be the best quality objects as far as two handed weapons go. and they could apply variations of ancient weapons to all the melee, like a ancient halberd for pikemen, a ancient rapier for fencers, and so on and so forth.
and in order to gain access to these weapons a melee fighter would have to go through a trial or quest pertaining to their class, (i know weaponsmiths may not like the idea, but they have all sorts of other things to make as well) if you pass the quest or trials, you gain a schematic for the weapon. and you craft it yourself, putting your knowledge of your art and mastery of weapons into it.
what do you guys think?
Love the idea of the Swordsman gainngtheir new swords thru quests and crafting them by hand. What a great idea and it would add alot to the game.
Personally though I'd like to see the "Ancient Swords" with an updatedlook and feel. But thats just me.
I also agree with master swordsman being able to craft their own weapon. Weaponsmiths will complain but if it's only useable at master sword, it wouldn't be a mass production money generating item anyway. Look at musicians. They are the only ones who can craft their instruments, and the instruments they play are restricted to certain boxes, narlagon at master.
I like the echani blade from KOTOR (double bladed sword) and I think if ever there was a two handed heavy sword, that would be it. If they went with the craft your "master weapon when you become master" idea, then people could perhaps quest for one of perhaps 3 weapon schematics. That way people can get the weapon that defines them personally (some like axes, some swords, I've yet to meet someone who waspleased with the hammer).
I can speak with some expericne here. I have been a heavy swordsman almost for as long as I have been playing. I not a holo whore like most, I stuck with myprimary combat profession. We definatly need some new weapon types. As a master heavy swordsman there are really only two weapons you can use, the power hammer and the two handed curved. (Haven't used the scyth yet so can't comment on its usefulness) All the other weapons in our class have insufficient damage to be effective at the higer levels. The cleaver is worse than the two handed curved even though the cert comes later in the skill tree. I don't think I have ever seen anyone above Novice Swordsmanusing anything except a Power Hammer or a two handed Curved. We have no variety in weapons. If you also consider that most high level creatures have uber resistance to kinetic you really are limited to the power hammer in a lot of ways. How can we be considered a swordsman if our best weapon is a hammer? Also now thatmind bleed has been reduced I don't know what I am going to do in PvP.Bleed no longer stacking and less effective over time, the power hammer is way too slow, hasvery large neg to hit modifiers, and has uber ham cost for special moves. How isthis weapon effectivein PvP anymore. We need new weapons! Here is a though how about giving the swordsman a decent sword to use as a new weapon. I mean who decided on these weapons? It makes no sense. You see the same thing in fencer too. Most fencers use the gaffi baton and there supposedly best weapon is the stun baton. Where are the swords? Either add some new weapons or have every weapon avaliable at any skill level. Instead of having a specific type of weapon being better at higher levels, have each weapon have a variety of increasing levels. This way you could use what ever you want. Just my two cents.

2h Axe is best for PvP because of very high minimum and very high range mods.
Cleaver can be good for the high minimum also, but not as good as the 2hAxe imo.
