I've been reading a lot of loot threads lately and I have a theory. I think that the spawn rate of loot may be based on YOUR character, kinda like a timer/reset. I have noticed that most people have a great day followed by a not so great day. Other players have good days on the day that is bad for the individual. So maybe its not a planet or area spawn switch but a reset timer on our characters so none of us can go out looting incredible amounts every day. Whats your thoughts?

a little over-zealous with the comment there but i agree - I know i've posted a loot thread myself, but i do think it's random still - I just noticed on/off days more than a few times and wanted to see if anyone else had too

I think if you ever find anything truly random in a computer that you don't know a damn thing, because it isn't possible. Even random number generators used in programming are base on the system clock. Here's some psuedocode of what I think the loot code looks like.
On loot
dropChance = mob.probabilty * rand() * 1000
If dropChance > 950 then
Read lootTable.mob
determine.drop
end
end
determine.drop would be a routine that does another random function and reads the corresponding value from the loot table.
I think we all get loot on a fairly regular basis, but sometimes we disregard what we've gotten because the things we've gotten aren't very good. When this happens, it seems to us that its been longer since we got loot, even though the rate at which we're collecting it hasn't changed. The days that we think we are doing good are the ones where we get a few of the items that we'd like to see in a shorter period of time.
While killing rebel npcs on talus, I usually loot an item about 1/10 of the time. The items range from broken datapads and cdef weapons all the way up to force crystals. Some days I loot a bunch of msg fragments, others I get a bunch of locked containers. I consider a day full of locked containers a better day than one full of msg frags, so I feel like I'm getting more loot on those days.

of course nothing is truly random in a computer program but the amount of possibilities can be so high it may as well be random.

the reason that the "random" events in the game (slices, loot, etc...) seem to come in good or bad waves is the tendancy for random acts to come in waves.think of it like rolling dice with only 2 numbers on it. if there was always good immeadiately followed by bad, it wouldnt be very random would it? so naturally there will be a streak of good, but eventually that will run out and be followed by some bad. just standard statistics.

After looting crap all weekend, I see on guild chat that a TKM has found a krayt, and wants a hand, so I buff up, head out, and smash away with my acklay hammers. 12 or so krayts later we have 4 pearls, and a few sets of tissues/scales. we found a spawn of 5 giants, a spawn of a juvie and 3 giants and a spawn of 3 giants, one after the other. So the random streak of good luck was with me, now I am sure I will loot crap again for a few days, but for our 4 man krayt team, it was a good night

I always loot crap stuff, there's no randomness to it. Is it Twi'leks who are borked or just me?
Examples: 810 credits off an elder followed by a belt off a second elder and a bangle off the next.
Also my looting 5 poison resist +10 robes 1 days after the poison nerf...

So the answer is it's just me then... ?

Hell no. Some days I cant loot anything and other days I'll get 5 1200+ crystals before I finish breakfast or 3 virtually identical NS lance. Now I'm not talking base lances, I'm talking 3 30-280 3.2 spd +18 def vs stun standard health disease with 200 tick health poison. And the only differce was maybe +-20 damage +-5 stat bonus +-20 tick.
I think the date plays into the formula. There have been countless days I've loot almost IDENTICAL Stat moded and DOTed weapons from different NPCs.

I have always though it was random, till the other day when i was in a group with 2 fellow wookiees and the rhe rest were other races. My fellow wookiees and I were lucky to loot ANYTHING, when the rest of the group was pulling skill tapes, crystals, AA, loot kit items, after about 200 npc's killed i finally pulled a damage crystal.
So my 2 cents are, if you not a wookiee your loots are a little better than random, IF you are a wookiee, suck it up and just be happy we got armor.
