Thread: So how are melees supposed to do faction missions now?
NPCs of all types run away when they are starting to get killed, but we have no way to stay up with them as melees. Now we can't use the posture attack to keep them from running away, so what are we supposed to do? Its ridiculous that I can be fighting 3 easy enemies but lose because they keep running away and drilling me.with bullets the whole time, even the one I'm fighting.
We need some kind ofroot or snare type skill to keep them from running away. Up until now we had that in the posture attack, but now we can only use it once every 30 seconds so it is now useless for that purpose.
If it's a high level mission with all the rebels in one spot, I spam area attack...I guess that's not going to work anymore...
But usually I just get the the lowest level missions, and kill the resistance fighters in one hit with my rifle specialist skill. I get just as much FP from them as I do killing SpecForce with my sword...
I am almost to the fourth box of 1hand sword in novice but i see none of thes area efect/knocknown or other mind hitting sort of attacks..yes im a newbie could someone plese help illistrate the path of a sordsman from newb------master? I get so confused reading these boards. I spam my latest attack (looks like a sword with some arch thing next to it) it make me hi abot 25% harder. Berzerker is my friend. and I have a ryyk sword for when I completre this third box. blah if my question is to vague ill summerize it: How do I become an uber swordsman.
My goal is Master Swordsman/pistoleer
im a newb in need of guidance
PS I bought a Powerhammer when can I use it?
You really want the fencer forum, as that is for one-handed swords, this is for two handed.
The swordsmen are fencers and the heavy swordsmen are swordsmen and we use axes and hammers instead of swords anyway and are you confused any more yet?
PS, the powerhammer is a two-handed weapon, the cert is at novice heavy swordsman.
So, i did a Factional Destroy mission for the Imperials.
I run up to it...2 blues(resistance agitators), a leader and some red thing... okay...
I take out the blues and the leader, but i'm almost dead ! WTH ?
I see the Red. Specforce Major, huh ?
Headshot One... -667... You'd THINK That would do ok, but that took a sliver off it. Anyway, next thing i know, i'm dead and in the Cloning facility. Great.
So, since i destroyed the base i couldn't go back.
The next 3 missions i do ALSO have these Majors.
Well..um..What do i do now ?
I can't kill them..(Some reds i can manage - like falumpasets)
Have i mentioned that i have Block 4 2h swords ? I use a 2h Curved Sword, i'm used to 1200+ Mind hits.
I did a few faction missions earlier today (I'm a rebel) and had a VERY interesting time.
On one mission, I killed the medic and one stormtrooper, leaving one left for my droid and I to kill. This stormtrooper kites me for at least 1000m, with only brief stops. He eventually stops and I land some heavy blows to kill him. I run back to the mission only to find thatit is repopped, heh.
Kiting stormtroopers really suck now ![]()
From my experiences fighting mobs that kite (except those droids which just plain suck)
When they start to run, run away til they are at least 65m away. Sometime they will lay prone. Don't move up. Wait for them to come to you and they will melee you. For two mobs kiting you in tandem pretty much just screwed. ![]()
hmm, you know I think we should get a hamstring attack. Moderate dmg, action hit + snare. put it in finesse 3
i am going to say an unpopular thing here guys... GET A PET.... this is the key to killing these things... make sure the pet has a ranged attack aswell... what you do is pull withe the pet... this will get the entire camp or at least most of it after it. next if one didnt agro run up to it and put a mind bleed on it 2 if you have em... then hit the head hit... now, if it runs let it go after a different one... one of those on the pet... the dots will hopefully kill mr kite boy while you kill the other... and the ones on the pet often react late to hits... just hit dot and head hit whatever and finish him when he finally gets to running the dot is your attack ignore the guy and go fer someone else as i said the dot becomes your attack... usueually if you dont chase him he will stop after a short while... if this occurs you can get him then.
Also, retgt the pet on the runner and hit peace.... what this does is it will transfer the agro from you to the pet it may take a few seconds but it almost always works (the reason for the ranged attack is when the mob is tgted by the pets ranged attack he often will stop or even better he will decide to go to melee and go for the pet up close giveing you a nice shiney new MELEE tgt). once its attention is on the pet you can run up and whack em without fear he will run from you till AFTER you hit him.
I know many dont like to use a pet... but i think of it more as the old hunters... they used wolfhounds to run down prey and such the fact MY hound is a rock beetle isnt that far from that age old concept. the smaller pets are only diversions anyway... no lvl 15 or lower pet will ever take down a lvl 20+, but he CAN hold him for a short while...
Hope this helps, Shadowborne bria
This "don't follow" strategy seems to be craptastic, and all, but you guys realize that not following and running away lead to one inevitable result, right? Said mob gets more uncontested hits on you.
It's kinda lethal toexercise that tactic against mobs such as stormtroopers. If a mob is going to hit you, REGARDLESS of whether or not you are in melee range, wouldn't it seem to be a good idea to stay ON that mob in the hopes that it does finally stop? Stormtroopers get some pretty nifty blaster styles that will incap you in a heartbeat if you're below 3/4.
And to the person suggesting pets, I always follow my probot in.
Kiting just plain sucks, now, from our vantage point.
Pets, Pets, Pets!
I've taken out Majors that I think were actually from a near-by mission that aggro'd -
Get some troops, and / or get a Rock Beetle - send em in to keep the Major busy, then walk up and clobber it.
Intermediate heavy swordsman,
I only have this trouble once in awhile, and pets are defintly the solution.
Of course shooting Them in the back as they run away works for me. Send pet in attack base they attack pet. Run up to first npc, 2hand hit 2, once, twice dead. Area spin attack 2 on a group working on the pet. one runs the other melees, 2hand hit 2, dead. third one almost dead from the pets attack. Laser rifle overcharge 1. dead
easy. Mission lvl 16
going to try one on dantooine lvl 35, im going to have some fun.
