Yeah, I'm curious too... any ideas? Especially: anything particularly vulnerable to kinetic damage that I can start bullying? Ideally on Tatooine.

Critter type isn't as important as preparation and equipment selection. Get a nice set of kinetic resistant Ubese or Composite armor, go out there buffed to the hilt, have an ample supply of Muon gold and fishak (use muon when mind gets low, and pop a fishak during the muon downers), get a couple crates of powerups (ones that reduce mind cost for specials), a decent speed sliced weaponand do not neglect your mind and focus stats. With this setup you should be able to handle multiple rontos/dune banthahitting you and possibly even sand beetles to pick up novice fairly quick.

If you don't have the money, make friends with a high level swordsperson who is willing to stack some bleeds for you and let you kill the beastie. The bleeds will not take any of your experience and you can have novice in about an hour. To sell them on the idea, mention that they will be getting a good amount of apprentice points training you for just a mere hour of babysitting.

Anyhow, hope this helps...

Thanks - very helpful.

OK, now hit me with the bad news... how much is the armour likely to set me back? And how much should I be looking for in terms of resistances to be considered 'half-way decent'?

Heh, cashflow is a big problem for me. At the moment, I've got some Chitin with about 30% resists for kinetic... of course I'm Trandosian, so can't wear boots or gloves, and there's no species-specific bonus to balance this out (they just keep bitin' right through this scaly hide of mine like it wasn't even there!).

I'm guessing I should get the armour sliced for HAM costs, if that's possible, they seem high (can't remember them off-hand)... again, though, that could cost a pretty penny with smugglers charging 100c / percent... on each item! Also, if I understand this right (their dark arts are something of a mystery to me), I'm not guaranteed that it will actually be the HAM costs that get sliced.

Sigh!

well i would suggest atleast 60% kinetic resist minnimum. If you can afford it go 70% plus. If your in a guild you probably got a Master AS who will hook you up. If your not in a guild you will pay around 150k for 60% kin resist ubese. That sound about right guys?

I honestly don't know what the going rate is for good ubese or composite. I bought my 80% composite about 2 months ago for 200k, but I have alot of good contact. My suggestion is to consult with a master armor smith about what you want and get a quote. Shop around to get a feel for the market, but avoid buying from a vendor or form a "mall" in general-- it's like buying milk from 7-11... you pay for the convienience.

Save money for slicing. Effectiveness slices on a less expensive set of so-so armor can actually give you a decent suit. Most people want encumberance slices, so if you see someone getting armor sliced at the SP... stop and listen. If you hear' "Effectiveness 20%.... effectiveness 17%.....efeectiveness 19%" more than likely that person is going to buy some more armor and may be willing to sell it cheap.

Mix and match. Its better to look foolish in swinging a sword in multicolored mismatched high quality armor than dead on the ground in spiffy new red ubese with terrible resists.

Most importantly, make sure you have the stats to fit yourself IN the armor without buffs. Trandos get hosed here due to racial maximums.

For some good experience, head to Talus and take out the tortors or whatever they're called. Gotta be able to hold your own though. Great experience and no DB's.

Pikets in dantoine have 10 to 45% kinetic resist.

Get a good Ubese armor, doc buffs, muon and all the other tips that were given above and jsut AOE the nest of pikets. Doing swordsman for holo and to be honest its truly overpowered compared to the other professions I have done. Pistoleer/carbineer AOE for example doesnt work when your surrounded by mobs in melee range.

If you don't have an uber profession to go with Swordsman, I have a suggestion. I leveled from novice to 2hnd 4 hunting plains cats on Naboo. The city I live in, Babelon, is at 0,0 on Naboo on Lowca. I was getting about 1200-1400xp per cat (usually 9 of them) and around 2500 for the lair.

With any melee profession, Doctor is a godsend to have paired. Buffs are your bestest friend. Personally I say get a nice speed cut two handed curved sword. Mine i have now is 1.7spd 60-250 dam. the easiest I'd say is to go to the agrilat swamp on cornellia for any initial melee leveling to get to the novice profession. Diseased and toxic vrelt lairs have like 20 to a lair and give 200-500xp. Swamp cats are the same and give like 400-500xp a kill. After you get like level1 on any of the skills and get a decent weapon to use they all are a snap and accumulate tons of XP. I've gone from unarmed2 to novice TKA in a few hours there. I'm currently working on getting to novice swordsman and last night i went from 2 handed 2-4 in about an1-2 hours beforeI logged off.

Just checked around on my server for prices on composite and found that the holo madness has seriously changed the economy as most of the established armor smiths have changed professions... which also explains why I have been slicing so many terrible sets as of late. Anyhow....

Bad suit of 50ish composite armor with no protective lair 300k

Top of the line low HAM, 12 experimentation point, 80% kinetic resist 60%+ others.... 600k

Original poster... look for ubese cause it may be the same situation on your server.

Ubese have some advantages over composite for hunting animals.

- Cost less, 73% ubese set usually goes for around 100k a set.

- Lesser HAM cost in most cases.

In the end, its cheaper to hunt with a 100k ubese set and replace it if you wear it down then to hunt with a set of composite worth 1-5 million. Of course you can find cheaper composite but versus ubese, ubese always comes out cheaper for the same protection.

If you plan on mastering multiple combat professions such as Swordsman, fencer, pikeman, pistoleer, carbineer, etc... do yourself a favor and learn Doc first.
