Thread: Swordsman PVE not PVP I must disagree

Hello fellow swordsmen, I have read for a long time now how swordsman is not PVP worthy, I can only say that I must disagree. It might be a true if you are a only a Master Swordsman becuase of the innate defensive weakness, but I PVP almost exclusively with my -3 range mod hammer or scythe as my main offensive weapons and it is bar none the most reliable form of melee offense.

I have absolutely no trouble defeating tkm or fencers. Acutally I find fencer to have a low damage output compared to tka and swordsman. Viable builds can be arranged around master swordsman although we will suffer the bane of any other melee class that is kiting, a combination of fencer/tka/swordsman will make you an insane killing machine.

Melee classes are very specific as to their function, offensively swordsman is awsome becuase of the targeted mind pool damage, fencer has some very nice defensive mods and tka skills give you a very versatile choice of stat mods and special abilities.

I know that it would be nicer to be able to compete with just Master Swordsman, but no PVP'er relies solely on 1 mastery. Compensating for native weaknesses from other classes is key and adding a little defense from the other melee clases will make you a respectable fighter. If you want to PVP you should look into the possibilities in the end melee is a lot more fun for me than ranged. That is why I have dedicated my toon to it.

Yes i tend to agree as well and this is the route in which i am going as well MFencer MHS & TKM your defence is great and attacks are to bad either and once you cap your two handed speed you can hit quite fast as well ,

the only thing wrong with this is the lack of medic and scout skills as i tend to hunt to help my guild out alot but i may drop 2 lines in tkm to compsate for this , but it is quite easy to PVP with swordman

I drop the combat xp line of fencer when I need the extra points to help out with app training or for a little medic if I plan to go PVE a lot. Its quite versatile in that aspect, and as a MSwordsman the combat xp is really a non issue. I play buffed 90% of the time so most of the time I can get around medic and (im a spice and food junkie for sure) as for scout its not that bad now with mounts and vehicles. A decent weapon with terrain negotiation or a skill tape will go a long way for those times you have to have terrain negotiation. I was lucky enough to find a +23 group terrain negotiation skill tape I put it on my bleed shirt and group with my droid before I leave my house which helps out a lot.

One thing thoug, dropping Mfencer and that combat xp line will make you a whole lot more vulnerable to KD and dizzy becuase you lose about 40 points of combat equilibrium but its a good trade off if you dont want to PVP exclusively.

Aye but i was going to drop master tk there combat line and presion as well but keep balance and medateae so i can pick up medic and scout but will keep Master fencer amd master Swordman , i think this will work quite well and if it doesent i can always go back up those two lines in tka easy as they are not two hard to get

But i am the same wiith regards to im always buffed and also a food an spice junkie as well so medic really probaly doesnt count

Okay my fellow Vacyn-ite, I've worked up some numbers, and I'm doing 4004, TKA fencer 4000, MHS, and right now I have carbineer 0010 to cap the counterattack. I also have scout 4000. You guys think this is a decent build? I'm almost always buffed, and drunk, and bloated on food. It caps the melee defense, almost caps ranged defense, and with CoB my counterattack is almost the equal to a fencer's dodge.

My question then is, what build do you other fencers out there have? I know alot of you master brawler, and I did that with fencer awhile back. Was alot of fun, and definately made fencer more viable. I'm wondering if it would do the same for swordsman...

In a duel last night I got hit with Int2 and incapped twice by a TKM, blademaster, master brawler, so I'm thinking of moving some stuff... What are your thoughts?

Oh, and I also agree about swordsman in PvP... The thing most people don't get is the kind of PvP'ers we are.... As much damage as fast as possible. That's what we're about.

My template, which i find to be very effective in PvP and PvE, is: Master Brawler, Master Fencer, TKA 4444(not master, need that extra 1 SP) and swordsman 0444. I like it very much and probably will stick with it for a while.

Intimidate is great no doubt, It just depends where you want to spend your skill points you can also try getting defense vs intimidate to alliviate that threat.

I think you should drop marksman entirely and pickp novice medic instead. Also drop the last skillbox of scout scout and put that towards fencer for more KD defence.

I think the true abilities of a MHS are in the skilltapes. I just got myself to +90speed and have to say I'm much stronger in battle now. My damage output with a dmg sliced PH are insane. I put all the TKMs I know to shame with spin attacks and mind specific attacks.

Other combat professions have a lot going for them, but you can't deny the fact that Swordsmen have the most potential of any profession out there. Our weapons have potential to outdamage anyone else, we have the potential to match anyone in speed, and we have a great mind attack

Swordsmen can definately perform well in PvP. But I'd also definately say we are gimped.

A lot of PvP is based on player skill, and therefore, you can often win even if your class is gimped.

Both TKA and fencers have huge advantages over us, as do pikemen. If they make use of all those advantages, then we'd be extremely hard pressed to beat them.

Now that bleeds are gone, our armor piercing ability is nearly as bad as a TKA's.

If a fencer throws on some 80-90% kinetic, and uses a stun baton, then they will be dealing a whole hell of a lot more damage than us. Plus it's pretty easy for them to dizzy/KD.

A TKM has much better toughness than us, and is affected way less than we are by damage mitigation. All they have to do is throw on some 90% kinetic/blast armor, and you'll have a hell of a time trying to kill them. It's also very easy for them to dizzy/KD. They also get +550 HAM and can FoW if you don't DB them fast enough.

Pikemen have easy access to powerful DoT weapons, which go right through armor. If a pikeman has a good DoT pike, then you'll probably lose (Unless you have a comparable weapon, but DoT swords are MUCH more rare.).

Can swordsmen kick butt in PvP? Definately....if you have the skills. But our class really needs some attention!

Is there a good way to get skill tapes like that?

To get the skill tapes you basically have to win them off auctions there is no shure way to hunt them. It takes a while and some patience but it is definetly an investment worth making. Make sure if you get armor attachments to put them on ubese bandoliers/shirts and or mabari belt. That way the will never decay.

yea, it puts out decent damage WHEN it hits. and i have to disagree with top post. something about how nobody only has one combat profession.

thats not true, im master doctor also and i think that heavy swords needs ALOT of work. I enjoy being a master doctor and i dont think i should have to drop it just pick up some defenses that swordsman doesnt have. I have been master tk with doctor, master fencer with doctor, and now..master doctor with master heavy swords...and ive never gotten my ass kicked like i do now.

bottom line....heavy swordsman needs sum lovin

lol doc is practically another combat class due to being able to heal ur dizzy and having 2k heals and ALWAYS being buffed. and in the first post i think he is right, a lot of ppl who r really good at pvp have 2 combat classes or doc/cm. I m not saying that you can't pvp with out them, but in order to be one of the best you do need them, and 2HS is good in pvp combined with something with a good defense.
