Thread: What other professions go well with SL?

Lets do the fantasy bit real quick and say SL is great... our group bonuses work very well, we dont kill ourselves failing to rally all the time, and people love us in groups.

My question is, what would be a suitable profession to possibly accompany MSL?

I'm working towards MSL, Master Pistoleer, and Medic...

I've recently come to believe that maybe I should drop pistoleer and marksman all together and focus on MSL, Medic (maybe a little of CM), to sort of be the ultimate support character.

I just want to hear other people's ideas what other professions would...

a) Compliment SL and the skills they already get

b) Make up for the weaknesses in the profession

c) Add new focus, or functionality, or style to a Squad Leader type character.

And remember, we're playing the fantasy game where SL is not broken... Post away with your brilliant ideas

I think the most common combo is Squad Leader + Choose Your Favorite Elite Weapon. Personally, I went the Pistoleer route and I think that's probably the most popular. I like the idea of Medic or Combat Medic + Squad Leader, and I know that a lot of people like rifleman so that they can keep a good distance from the enemy. The drawback is that Squad Leader specials mostly draw from the Mind pool as does Medic and Rifle skills.

The most important thing is to find the profession that best matches your playstyle, if you enjoy the support and socializing role, Medic is a great way to go. But you've been warned about the HAM costs...something will have to give eventually.

Yep, Pistoleer and SL are usually the most popular.

Although, for myself, I went the Carbineer + SL road...the road less traveled so-to-say.

Rifleman here. (shrugs) Eh, its ok.. When everything is working perfectly (in say, oh a year or two) I imagine it'll be great.. till then I wish I'd picked up carbineer instead..

I have Commando (0/0/4/3) and Novice-Rifleman (0/0/0/0). The latter just because we still have no Gallinorean Gemstones on Tarquinas and I really, really want to be able to fire a T21 at least once in my life...
To the fellow SLs who dabble also in Commando: Why did you chose Heavy Support Weapons rather than the HAR? I know that there are some issues with it (guess what: As SL this is something I have learnt to cope with ) but are these expendable really that good and worth their price?

I am a creature handler/squad leader with a dash of medical skills for flavour.

With three imperial stormtroopers, a probe droid and my pet animals I have a handy travel squad that I can store in my pocket...

It's a shame that by the next patch I will only be allowed one pet.

Nepth, I too was interested in building an ultimate support char, I wrote up a little Non combat SL combo here...

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=squad_leader&message.id=4674

it's a little old (sept), but I think these are all actually atainablenow for the new way we get xp.

My favorite build was Master SL, 0430 Doc (rez and great buffs), and com med 0004 (best ranged area heals). While I couldn't even body shot 1, I could single handedly pull any sized group out of any nasty encounter with a little /drag, /rez, /heal action. For me that was more fun than shooting stuff.
