Thread: Just thought of something...
Here's something I just thought of that I dont' think has seen any discussion on yet. How about the SL have the ability to his group in a shuttle from a city and put down anywhere on the map? Basically an air insert ability. Take it one step further and be able to call that transport back in to evacuate from anywhere and return to a city. (nearest city perhaps). There's a combat support ability for you. Get your guys into a fight quickly and be able to get them out of a jam ina hurry. You could make the enabling device something craftable, like a radio, that the SL would need to purchase from someone.
Comments?...Buehler?......
That ability would make SL's a serious commodity. Of course it would be a matter of seconds before someone realized they could strip naked and sell Air Drop trips for groups and then clone and repeat. Not that there is necessarily anything terribly wrong with that...
I think the airlift option was supposed to be in the game originaly (not specific to SLs... or maybe) but was never completed. It is a good option and it would be helpful in those GCW campaigns... but the only problem I see is the 60 seconds covert timer (which is not ingame yet... maybe next publish?). It would lead to squads dropping in with covert... waiting 60 secs while in the opposing factions base and then as soon as they go overt, tear the place up. But then again there are threads talking about getting SL's the ability to set overt status.
Ok im gonna tie it all together. SL gets the group on a shuttle and drops near the enemy base. Everyone is covert (maybe SL has to be overt). Ranger sets up a field base camp or High tech field base (I never knew that when you were overt you could requisition items from the little terminal). The SL then makes everyone overt (required to be the group leader and within one of the advanced ranger camps, maybe has to be overt himself.) They pull out their faction pets and run to the base and take it down.
OOO another idea. Have the Advanced ranger camp double as a drop point. So the Ranger has to hoof it out to the enemy zone and find a good drop point. Sets up camp and radios back to the SL that the drop point is ready. The SL and the rest of the squad jumps on the shuttle and appears in the Rangers camp...
Heh... idea overload. I need to rest.
1) There could be a time limit that is unaffected by cloning, and is rather steep so this ability couldn't be overused. Make it 1 hr for the first level you get it and then shave off 10-15 mins at every box above.
2) There could be restrictions as to how close to factional buildings or player cities the drop can be...perhaps no closer than 1000 meters to any city or FHQ.
3) There could be a cost to do this (like the cost required by the SL to bribe a shuttle crew or to pay for their time). Somethinglike 2000 credits, maybe to buy or craftthe radio device (one time use) or just on a popupwindowwhen the ability is used (Would you like to spend 2000 credits for an airdrop?).
This way the SL wouldn't just be using it on a whim. Air drops should be a big deal...they take alot of coordination and shouldn't just come for freeat the snap of a finger.
Yeah the penalties to balance it would have to be something like cash... or more likely Faction points.
Good points there.
Although, I do see it making Squad Leader's the "Taxi's" of SWG if it happened.. not that it would be a terribly bad thing. Would earn us some cash.
/shout 3k for a trip to the Tusken Fort! Shuttle leaves in 2 minutes!
/shout 4k for a trip to the Force Caves! Shuttle leaves in 2 minutes!
It would make it so our profession could earn money at something other than working as a Big Game Hunter.
As for Rangers being able to set up the DZ for us, that is an interesting idea. Personally I would have it set so that there would be at least 4 people with the Ranger, so that the DZ is secure before a drop could be conducted, and all of them must be in the SquadLeader's Group at the same time.
The idea of the being a minimum distance from a City or Faction Base is a really good idea. Would make suprise raids on bases finally effective.
Ahhh the thought of launching a 80 Man Assault on some Imp Player Bases I know of. That just warms my heart right up there. Well that and the Blaster Bolts Imps tend to aim there as soon as I show up these days.

Great Idea! I have similar ideas posted in the mobility thread.
I really like the Idea of the ranger being able to deploy a landing zone! Make them true Pathfinders. I'll add my proposal here and include some stuff for the Rangers to make this a little more complete.
Schematic: LZ marker Kit. - Give this schematic to Rangers and Squad Leaders. Creates a landing zone "camp." The landing zone camp allows a shuttle to land.
The camp has a comms terminal with the a command to Call for a Shuttle.
/Medevac - Squad Leader sends a targeted corpse to the closest non-player city medical center. Player "clones" withno wounds and has revive effects.
/Extraction - Squad Leaders and Rangers can use the shuttle to extract the squad to the nearest non-player city shuttle port.
/DropZone -Ranger issues a ticket tomembersof his squad to transport to the Rangers Landing Zone. Players pay x thousand credits to receive the ticket.
/CallForReinforcements - Allows the squad leader to send a "ticket" to another player. That player pays x thousand credits to receive a shuttle ticket to the squad leaders landing zone.
Tickets have to be used at the closestshuttle por to the player. A shuttle wouldhave to be present at the Landing Zone to use these abilities.

FP's would make it tricky for mixed groups, credits would be the better way to go....
Its good to see this idea pop up again.
What I meant though... is the FP cost would go to the SL. (I see this as a faction specific perk for SLs)
As long as each group member has the credits to buy a ticket to the shuttle then they are fine, no FP cost to them.
