Id just like to throw my support behind a SL ability airlift insertion/extraction ability (so that neutral SLs can use it too). A possible reason this is not being talked about by devs is because space expansion may already have plans to include this sort of thing, which would invalidate it as a SL ability.

I have the prima offical strategy guide to SWG. IN the section on the GCW it talks about shuttle drop offs and how faction members can call for shuttle pickups/dropoffs. It also talked about a lot of other cool stuff like faction chat channels, military titles actually showing(when overt), uniforms and BOMBARDMENTS. I'm guessing they just never got around do doing some of these things or they were too powerful or what ever but there ya go. I also love the idea, so ya...

Not a SL, but love this idea. How would it work though? People just popping out from thin air? Or the game shows a shuttle loading then people come out. Or! To make it even better you board the shuttle and get to watch as you fly there! I also think that a Sl should have to pay 10,000 creds to do it, so it won't be overused.

Heh... thanks for the necrobump.
The dropzone proposal hasnt been discussed much recently. One of the ideas we have had was Ranger/SL interdependancy. In simple terms, the Ranger in the group would set up a camp. The Squad Leader would then gain the ability to set that as a dropzone and buy tickets for the whole group (would have to be same planet only, no jumping across the galaxy.) They would all fly out and be dropped off at that camp.
Lots of bugs and such to think about. Any input is appreciated.

Ok I like this idea to shuttle people in combat...
As a SL, I find that getting a group together sometimes takes up to an hour because of travelling time, people who want to join are on another planet, etc...
An upcoming MMORPG, Tabula Rasa, does away with that by allowing people to "teleport" directly to their friends.
Perhaps we could implement something similar...
The SL could drop a transmitter (or build a small camp with transport ability) where people could take a shuttle and drop at the SL location.
I'm over simplifying, but something similar in mechanics would cut down on groups getting together and ready.

this whole idea has been discussed and refined several times. check some of those pinned threads at the top of the forum.
anyway you cant do a quick shuttle evac because it will be exploited.
you can do a camp to camp shuttle but integration with ranger would be a bad idea because it is too complicated and if there is not ranger it is utterly useless
and stop with the faction costing specials..............no they wont go for it because you are totally alienating neutrals in every way.

I have not come up with a way to do "Evacs".... I am still leaving in the "Dropzone" though. It is a fairly simple idea.

Hmm.. I think that would actually improve the overall game if we had that kind of interdependancy in all aspects of SWG. Let's hope that we set a precedent

The previous Ranger Corr was all for it and came up with quite a bit of the ideas. Lets hope the new Ranger correspondent is in the same boat.

I disagree. Air drops take coordination, but are not that big a deal. here the idea is analogous to be dropped in or air lifted by gunship in the military, which the Squad Leader can call for at any time. The operative word here is "support". You wouldn't expect to join the military, be assigned a mission, and go for your insertion only to hear the crew say, "well, gee, what are going to pay me?" Not gonna happen. If I was that field commander, I think I'ld have to shoot the pilot in the head for risking the lives of entiresquad and gross insubordination, and commadeer the gunship ourselves. Again, not gonna happen. There's probably a better way to control use of that feature.
I think it's a silly notion that soldiers in a galactic civil war are expected to finance the way out of their own pockets anyway. Just imagine signing up for the Air Cav and getting told"soldier, you can fly this gunship, but it'll cost 14 million dollars to buy it, another 7 million to fit it with weapon systems, and few hundred thousand more to load it with ordinance. Are ready? Let's MOVE OUT!" Hopefully, they'll give us more faction equipment and fix the faction point thing.
