I have for some time wanted to go squad leader but with the comments that i have read on the board here i have been warry to invest the time and skill points into it.

I know that they are revamping combat. And things are likely to change. But at this time why should i want to become a squad leader?

I have been reading for some time but i still would like to hear for you. About what you think is the best part of beinga squad leader.

How do you have your ham set up also. Im coming off of being a master doc and had all my stats migrated to mind stats. Would this help me more in terms of mind costs for specials? I have 900 m, 1000 focus, and 900 will.

Well, the bonuses are nice. People in my group say they do notice a difference in how often things hit them with and without me. And just running around, the mobility bonuses keep your group together much better. (And retreat is just fun if you are lazy and want to speed up the walk to the next area...retreat your group, then burst run. Everybody zips along.)

The special abilities vary in utility, but they are generally actually helpful too (though I am very disappointed with Volley Fire). Rally is a great way to being a difficult combat, and Steady Aim means pretty much nobody misses that round. Form Up is good to remove Dizzy and Stun from several people at once (though I wish you could use it while you yourself were dizzy; you can when stunned...).

But the biggest and best reason to be a Squad Leader is that you end up the leader of every group, and all must bow down to your every whim. How can you not want that?

I like being a squad leader strictly for the RP part of it.

Standing in the middle of the squad, barking orders and directing fire, is a blast. Especially in PvP. I tend in the midst of my riflemen squad, and they all open fire while I shout out specials to use and targets to attack. I use /volleyfire alot too (gotta have muon for this one) to control the targeting. I do agree that it kinda sucks for damage, but with 3-4 riflemen targeting mind on 1 target (who's already suffering mind disease/poison), you don't have to do a whole lot of damage

Then once it's over, compliment the squad and congratulate them on their victory.. And offer shore leave!

One does not become a Squad Leader. You are born to it. It sings in your blood. Then you find out your blood is severely borked.

I haven't become squadleader yet, but I believe its a good position for me. If you are a leader type in real life, this is the profession for you. It's one of those professions that you have to have some skill in to be good at it. Its all about communication and group dynamics, and the profession just gives you the tools. You have to be the one to put it to good use. I believe the system message is priceless and using it with colors (for example \#000000 TEXT - for black text) to make a real impact on the group.

Right now I am working on combining it with combat medic and ranger, with a little rifleman in there are long range support. People keep saying that no one is a squadleader, and it is for a good reason, because the average joe doesn't have the skills to quickly make logical decisions while in combat and such, for the group. But I've seen a few squadleaders in action and discluding the fact they give awesome bonuses to the rest of the group, the coordination he gave was totally worth it.

Well thanks for some serious input. and not so serious input. I have wanted to be a squad leader for some time and had worked up the camping xp to get it at one time, but dropped that for the last skill points i needed for master doc. I'm sick of doctoring and want to help my pa, and my faction.

I see the need for smaller squad leader lead combat elements in the GCW. I have gotten sick and tired of showing up at battles to find its a free for all. No organization. No orders every person for themselves. Unless it is a rally and a run ina zerg to overpower the enemy. I would think that a well organized team of 10 individuals could hold their own very well in the GCW if commanded properly. And if you added another 2 groups of 10 you could take or defend anybase in the game successfully, against such tactics.

I don't use voice chat and know many teams do use this to coordinate actions. But i do not and neither does my pa. I think that this might be a great spot for me to fill.

What should I set my ham up for though?

I have very low health and action hams from doctoring and poured the pts into 900 mind, 1000 focus, and 900 willpower. How should i balance this out or just make sure I visit a doctor to buff my other stats? Im also a Rifleman.

What are your suggestions?

Become a SL because they are very few and it can help others.

I think before the big hologrind the only combat profession with less people than SL was Fencer. Bonuses are nice but only if you want to help others. If you want more skils and defense by yourself then maybe yours is a different path...

SL skills take a lot of mine. They also fail a lot, so you can drain your mind trying to get 1 rally or 1 volley fire. Mind is good for SL, but I think the other stats depend on your other professions. If you were a doc/SL, mind is the way to go. But if you are a pistoleer/SL, you will need action and health too.

When I *first* started, I wanted to be SL, without even knowing what it was about. After some consideration with my friends, we decided (without anyone actually being an SL) that if you're ever solo, then pool points are being held up, and you don't get any bonuses for yourself. Thirty odd alternative professions to choose from? We could find one better than that....Basically it was left at that, and I never thought about it again.

Holocron time, and lookie lookie here, Squad Leader it is.

Yes, the skills fail sometimes, and I don't see why they should.

Yes, we need scout survival, but it doesn't do anything for the profession itself.

Yes, you gots nothin if you're travelling alone.

But sweet Jesus on a stick, it's the most fun I've had since I've started. Okay, sure, doing Fort Tusken is an experience all by itself, but barring that..... I don't know about the rest of you, but it's pretty cool when your job is to manage everyone else in the party, and keep an eye on how the wholegroup is faring. That kind of thing. It gives you more responsibility, and for me, I feel like I'm adding more to the group, than just being another dude with a gun. Added to which, I was already master medic, soin my opinionthose two professions complement each other perfectly, and make the whole thingeven better again!

I love this job, holocron or not, I'd do it again in a cinch.
