Thread: Where's the 60 gunner

I was thinking that a special weapon, and some skills to use it would be a good idea. Since the Mobility tree is about dead, how about replacing it with a Heavy Weapon tree? like the squad heavy gunner position. Give us a cool new weapon, like a Squad Automatic Pulse Cannon. All the specials for this weapon could be AOE skills, like Area Bleed, or Area Leg shot. something like that. I can see my wookie standing at the read of the group formation, laying down NASTY covering fire for the squad, and helping each of my squad members with their individual targets. this way, I'm helping each of them defeat whatevers comming at them. Have the ability work only when grouped, but I think it's a good idea.

This is what I had in mind when I first heard about a Commando's heavy weapons: A kind of artillery... Sounds cool somehow!

I would love to see this, but I doubt it'll ever happen..

Get a master weaponsmith to build you a giant howizter.. Spend 5-10 seconds opening your datapad and pulling it out, a giant stationary gun or artillary cannon. Once it's up, just hop in and unload... That would *sooooo* kick ass...

That would be awesome. Could have everything from splash damage/simple types, ie. Catapult to high speed mini gun... What about and APC that only SL can drive when vehicles start?

I think that if I had the option I would rather designate me and another person on the squad as a gunniery team. Like the Storm Troopers setting up the artillery to shoot the Falcon in Mos Eisly in episode IV.
The SL can move and set up the gun like dropping items in a house and the gunner gets to aims and fire it.

Seconded that wuld be a most amazing addition. you could have a tree dedicated to it, with increasingly powerfull guns, and perhaps 2 guns at 3rd box and 3 at master

I keep seeing "Aliens" in my head. Vasquez laying down cover fire while everyone else gets in the APC. That kinda weapon. big supressive thing. Something that helps the entire squad, not just kills what's in front of you.

The squad leader's special weapon cert should be for a radio.

We'ld probably get overwhelmed and taken down anyway, but we'ld sure be a boon to getting the medic's and doctor's out of harm's way in a tight spot.

Varying weapons for different boxes, too. Start with a large shouldermounted weapon, moving on to ground launched artillary (Mortars, etc), ending up with the equivalent of manned turrets (Hop in the hot-seat and open up).

I cannot emphasize just how badass this would be to have in a battle, and as a SL ability, I would have to finally forgive SOE for the last 2 months.... Add in posture changing attacks, speed reducing attacks, state changes (knockdown, dizzy, intimidation for sure, etc), and a group with a SL suddenly becomes lethal.

That's what I mean, the specials would be status attacks. knockdown, stun, that kinda thing.

I really love this idea... one of the best that I have seen.


A few things that need to be worked out:



  • How would these team weapons be operated. As far as certifications or skill requirements.

  • How not to take away useful skills from other professions (such as heavy weapons for commandos, special effects from carbineer, etc.)

  • How will these be built (weaponsmith requirements).

  • How they will be set up in the field (will the SL have to carry around these weapons to set them up or can they be distributed.)

I wouldnt mind them making a profession off of master SL, one that grants more SL specific abilities, as well as a heavy weapons kinda line like the m60 idea. Then the SL would be a lot more welcome on the PvP field, as they'd be able to say, lay down a sheet of cover fire, that slows down the opposing force as they come towards you, as if they're crouching underneath a sheet of fire.

Previously on this topic, the "E-Web Blaster" has been mentioned as a weapon for Squad Leaders. I am not familiar with this weapon, can someone explain it to me?
