Thread: I'm going to give up the class.

I really hate to do it, but my only use for SL comes from when I participate in the GCW, and I get no experience for myself when I do that. On the rare occasions that I do hunt with a group, my experience totals are so weak as to be laughable, especially when one looks at the required amounts a person needs to gain even one of the first-tier skills; let alone the whole SL tree.

I just found out the joys of being a Commando a few nights ago, and I honestly can say that my SL points will be much better used climbing that hybrid tree than this one. Additionally, I think I'll climb a little ways up the Combat Medic tree so I can actually help groups on the rare occasions when I am in them.

Honestly, if you guys want more people to put pressure on SOE to help SLs, jump on the 'more static dungeons/bosses/uber loot' bandwagon. If there was more group-forcing static content in SWG, than the SL would be a lot more needed than it currently is; and a lot more people would help us shout forthe fixes thatSL needs.

Currently the SL is kind of like the DE or the BE, in that what we offer the group is so negligable (and in the case of DEs and BEs, can be offered by a CH with half the training), and can be done so much better by other classes (Combat Medics rock our world in the arena of 'help' offered to the group) that nobody is willing to shout for our cause. There's a much bigger crowd yelling for static content right now than there is for SL fixes, and I think if you helped that crowd out, in the long run it would help you.

Again, my appologies for abandoning the class, but at this point I just cannot see working on something that is so painfully and mercilessly broken.

Another one bites the dust...I made this decision a long time ago. The profession tres and skill point system punish any brawler who wants to learn any hybrid or elite profession. So, I'm going to follow the game's lead and become Master Brawler/Master Swordsman/TKA w/Meditate 4, as well as having about half of the medic tree. I may do horrible solo, but hopefully one day I can be an asset to a group as a tank.

I have been tempted for ages to dump the 24 wasted boxes of SL (16 for SL, 8 for the Scout I need to be SL).

So many other classes help groups AND yourself solo.

Well for me the real breaking issue was the complete and total lack of any sort of 'official' response to our plight. Yes, I realize that we as a class represent a very, very small minority within the game, but really, all Holo has to do in those two hours (he admits to spending that much time daily on the boards) that he drops by this place every day is start a thread along the lines of 'we know these classes are broken... here's what we're thinking of doing... please yea or nay on these proposals.'

That's it.

It shouldn't be beating around the bush, or proposing a whole score of silly changes, having the community as a whole recoil in horrow from said changes, and then never mentioning it again. It shouldn't be about ignoring us, or playing 'special favorite' with a select grouping of classes. I mean, the whole 'T21 Debacle' was a crystal-clear demonstration of the elitist pandering that the DEVs pull towards a very select grouping of classes. The DEVsseem to feel like they should only help that small grouping of classes because the vast majority of the game's population resides within them. What the DEVs seem to miss, though, is that the reason that such a vast majority of people reside within such a small number of classes is because those are the classes that are the least broken, and recieve the most fixes. That's it-- that's the answer as to why our population is so small and their's is so large, and that's why our population continues to shrink while their's grows. It's a funadmental flaw in the design of fixes in this game, and it's only going to get worse before it gets better.

Never get any XP ???? Are you nuts? To be a squad leader you should be somewhat of a leader...ie run your own hunts...you will make xp like mad. Try fort tusken in one day (4hours with training) i have made 1 million squad leader points. Squad leader is MEANT to be a player leadership position...use it that way and quit female doggin!

Heh, even tho it was beta, how about the "Miner" profession?

I don't blame this guy, I gave up on SL awhile ago... it was more fun in beta when groups were worth something, but even THEN, it wasn't worth spending more than a few boxes on. Sorry to say this, but anyone who mastered SL has compeletely wasted a load of skill points.

They need to seriously rework this class sooner than later. Right now every other combat-aligned elite profession is well worth the skill points compared to SL. There's some cool things in SL, but its not worth spending the points on right now.

How does one assign worth to skill points?

Is it a generally accepted standard or is it more personalized?

you have 250 skill points. Worth would be defined as skill points that benefit your character. Worthless would be skill points that do not serve to make your character better. SL is a whole lot of dead wood (if you know that expression.)

I too will be joining the ranks of ex-squad leader tonight when I need to surrender a skill to gain a new doctor skill. I find keeping my entertainer skills more worthwhile than keeping the squad leader profession. I told myself about 3 weeks ago if they did not fix our class by now I'd drop it and continue into doctor.... well that time has come. We gain little xp if we prefer to support our squad by keeping them alive. Not all squad leaders jump right into battle, they have the lives of their squad members to worry about. I like the roleplaying aspect of leading and will continue to do so, even without squad leader. If they changed the xp to be a function of group damage I would have reconsidered dropping this class but alas its too late, farewell.

Points taken. But my skill points are worth the degree of fun I get from them, and I get the most fun out of being a Squad Leader, I guess.

hahah.... Gordon, you are the most optimistic SL on the forum..... I try though.....

Maybe if we got a whole crap load of posts on this forum we could make it look like we are a bigger group than it seems......maybe some posts by the LURKERS......

Only problem is there isn't much to talk about except our tactics (already covered mercilessly) and our gripes (alsodiscussed ad nauseum).

We do, however, have one of the best RP writers on the forums. I'm talking baout PSQUIRE (see: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=game_guides&message.id=19852) . Maybe, for fun we can post some adventures and inflate this puny forum. I'll write a tale I think....

Lovin' SL and trying to enjoy it too,

Occamz
