This is one of the lines I've been using together with my volleyfire since the CU.

Since the DEVs announced how the assist works, I was trying to get everybody, especially the ranged to do this.

To Focus Fire on one pointman and I promised them we would blow everything into pieces.
Ranged would even have the advantage that when they stick close to each other they wouldnt even have to move to take out the next target.

I think this is something, especially we all as squad leader know.

Now read this:

Bonestrand on Ahazi wrote "and this is fun?" which is also posted in the GCW forum:

Looks like the new PvP tactic if you want to even call it that is to auto follow a group member and use the assist feature to instantly incap people. Now I ask you is this fun? So congratulation you have found a way to completely roll a person in a second...

what satisfaction is there in doing this? Got tired of the gank groups so now we have the gank groups on auto follow?

for the use of all other people seeking the newest lame tactic...

/follow (group leader)
/saberdervish
/saperspinattack
/pause 3
/macro omfg1337

PvP has been successfully killed tonight I know I'm not going overt with this tactic in use. Have fun killing the npc in Theed.

I dont even know how to comment that.

It just takes:
A powergamer + a jedi + a macro + AFK bots = fun is dead.

generally how the credit farmers do it as well.

I say let the macro exploiters do it ^-^ but return the favor as well with atk players in your squad- they take down one of your members and you take down the atk player on the other side....

the funny part is you take out the atk player he has to switch to a new toon while you decimate his robots....

That's just ridiculous. I mean, I do this for fun. They do it to win? Win what? Someone thinking they're cool? Whatever. Just another loser living with his/her parents in the 7th grade who's such a loser, he has to be "cool" here. I wonder if IQ should be a requirement to play.

People are always lookin for an easy win. They dont care if it ruins someone elses fun.

Why do you think exploits pop up often, people wants an "I win!" button

They are doin it AFK, can you imagine one guy controlling a whole squad each under his control?

Pretty rough... makes me wonder, any way to get around that?

I personally wouldn't mind if any macro which contains a combat command is not executed, but there's ways around that.

(It's what they tried with the AFK-entertainers... a macro with /flourish inside was not executed for some time. People managed to find ways around it soon, though... )

Edit:

As a sidenote, i hope a Dev reads this. If people already now have this, one ATK character and a group of their chars, programmed to be bots to just assist them, how likely is it that they will decide not to exploit the upcomming SL changes to give them an even bigger advantage in combat?

[Sorry, people who do that are definitely not the kind who thinks about what they do on the professions they abuse, they only look for their personal advantage, usually on a very short termed basis, they don't care if the leave a trail of nerfed and broken professions behind... ]

So, please tell me that i am wrong on my fears on how the new SL concept can be abused. But reading that not even guilds, but even _single_ persons abuse a system like that i dare to assume that abusing the new SL can and will happen...

The form I more commonly see this in is with credit farmers. In my PA's player city, we ban credit farmers on sight. They will generally attempt to get you to lift the ban, but the vast majority don't speak english well if at all. Yesterday I banned a whole squad, obviously controlled by one player, and had some fun with his responses:

I swear I am not making these quotes up, they are a verbatim copy of what was said in game:
"You open !" -I think this one roughly translates to "Please relinquish the ban on me and my fellows, kind sir."
"I fry away !" -pretty self explanatory, and yes, the "fry" part is really what was written, not me portraying a stereotypical asian accent
"You big dog" -My char is a wookiee
"shirt!!!!!!!1111" -To which I replied, "I think you meant to leave the 'r' out of that"

Eventually after standing around for about 15 minutes, the swarm drove off. I guess the old saying is true: "The big dog always wins"...

Doing this in PvP seems lame, but on the other hand, a person trying to control a full group of follow/assist bots is a far smaller threat than a group of real players of the same size, so you could probably have fun ripping 'em up in the right circumstances.

Never crossed my mind putting this on the SL forums even though my main character is a MSL. But I have been thinking and there is a very very easy way to fix this situation. Make the assist feature only work through the SL using a special that does it, not just someone who is targeting a normal group member. Also its not only the fact that this can be done afk it doesn't even mater if they were atk or not, the point is that it goes beyond the fun of pvping and take it to a elementary level of just following and using an aoe or a strong attack at whatever your groupmember is targeting.

this is a serious issue with pvp right now, being killed by a big mass of red dots just rooting people as they mow through your fellow teammates and there is absolutely nothing that you can d to stop them when your getting incaped in less then 2 seconds. people say ohh you can stasis the leader of the mob or you can root them, but that does not stop them, and not everyone is a jedi with stasis and not everyone has a root. to add to the problem you can try to kill the main guy but with every group member targeting him they can heal him the second he has a lick of dmg on him.

people flame me now saying ohh its nothing telling me that IM crying about dyeing, but the tables will turn when this goes beyond just a few situations and starts to take over the entire pvp fields. I have never cared about dyeing in a fight I dont care about pvp rating and when I die i just clone and go overt as fast as i can to provide a fight, but there is no point anymore when what your fighting is not a player but a mass of autofollowing death.

Well, I can say for at least me, I agree with you 100%, even though I haven't gotten into PvP yet. Regardless, it is a problem, but I feel that unless you severly restrict play it'll hurt the game to much. Though I will not have a problem banning people if there is just cause and I have not banned people from the city I reside in yet, I will do so if needed.

I'm not quite sure why it's a problem people use assist in PVP. On Bria, at least for my guild, and any other avid pvping guild, it is standard procedure to have everyone assist one person who we call the "target caller" to--obviously--call targets on people we feel are important to the other group.

And even if for whatevergod awful reason the devs decide to "nerf" this feature,we simply call out the target over TS and we call attack that person (which is what we do most of the time). Now usually this is effective in small, to medium scale fights. In many large ones, or in the case that the enemy clusters themselves, we call out who we think would be able to tank our DPS the best in the group and use him to focus AOE DPS fire on him, and everyone around him.

And this is before I got Volley Fire and use that on top of target calling.

I think this "lame tactic", some call, should really be called "team work". Get over it, and adapt.

Making it SL only won't come... in some way, your suggesion would make good sense, but i think some people would see this as sort of "gating" and would block it. But on the point of the exploiter, considering that SL buffs will be helpful in PvP in the future, do you think that those people would be without an SL bufbot? And if they have one, the concept is void again.

Now, i admit, i have used this process of focusing fire both in PvP and PvE since some time and to good effect. As long as the whole team was and is ATK, i also have to say that i see not the slightest issue with it. Players have the tendency, the moment they see the slightest bit of trouble, they forget the orders and target themselves again, so teaching them to focus fire is quite a task at the start. Also, with a bad targeter / point man, you are actually faring worse than when not using this tactics. (A slow targeter really cuts badly into the cummulative damage output of the team, as he's blocking the complete team from firing...)

You also have to take into account, you will have doctors and medics in team, if they are worth their salt, they will switch targets and heal all the time. (A serious problem of the bot-team... sure, they heal the leader, but do they also care for each other? Only if they have combat medic inside. And then, how does the bot-guy make sure that they do it properly, without burning their mind in no time?)

So, thinking it over, such a bot-group is a fearsome enemy when you're unprepared and not expecting it. (Also, the comparison, bot team toeight player team is not matching... you have to compare bot-team to one player, it's always only one person behind the team...) It also still definitely is still a challenge for a team which is aware of the situation and prepared to deal with it, but if you have a groupd of experienced and motivated players, i think such a 7-bot-1-player team can be cracked.
