Thread: Rally

I saw that people think that the CM Heal mid thing makes them the pivotal member of a group, as opposed to say....the squad leader. I also read that Rally used to heal mind in the testing stage. I say, why not make Rally sort of a short buff that makes the mind regenerate more quickly, like a 20 second tripling of the mind's secondary stats? I think that would be pretty spiffy action. Besides, that might make it worth the HAM and fail rate.

In all honesty, I gave up to point out our completely broken class. During the "heal mind" discussion I suggested to make the Squad Leader the only one to heal mind so make that class actually wanted in groups, but well, you see what they have done. Right now, no active command of the SL is working or even remotely useful.

Rally prevents the group from harvesting corpses and that combined with the fact of fast decaying corpses renders Rally utterly useless.

Volley does nothing else but let the group fire one shot at the SLs target and then FORCES everyone out combat again. If a person was in combat before the command was issued he misses a round of action for some unknown reason. Very useless command.

Retreat .. well, I never thought this command to be useful in the first place

All that is left is the passive defenses and terrain negotiation, which hardly make up for the cost of this advanced class.

/rally is the one and only SL-command that I ever use (perhaps not quite true: I sometimes order /formup as well): I call it before my group actually engages the enemy and when it fails they do battle nevertheless and don't wait for me to order it succesfully. I hence use /rally only as alibi because I feel that I ought to do something (anything!) as squad-leader, never noticed it to be really useful though and don't assume it will ever be...

Today, I rallied my group. OH MY GOD IT DID NOT FAIL.

...then I rallied again... same thing.

And, again. And again. Took me nine times to fail. After twenty tries, only three failed.

I feel lucky.

Why should it cost HAM to begin with if there is a chance of failure? Do any of the skills in any other Elite combat class fail, NO. Sure they get countered, blocked, sometimes you miss. But we fail w/o any intervention, we just FAIL for the shear sake of failing.

Not to mention after you blow all your mind attempting Rally, then hit it, with 33/1000 mind HAM left. You can't sit down and regen it, ya can't sit while rallied! Ya can't loot when rallied, unless its PvP, I've noticed.

If you ask me the fail rate could have a reason. That is if it got better over time.

For Example: a low level Squad Leader has more failures then a higher more Experienced possibly more well known in the universe leader.

In the movies for example who would you take a command from in the first movie (this may sound strange since Luke is one of the main characters but bare with me) Wedge Antilles the Battle Hardend vet that you are certain knows what hes doing or Luke the moisture farmer from Tat who you never have heard of before.

What are the chances that the attack on the death star would have faild if nobody knew or trusted their leader.

Just my thinking on the subject.

Suppose that as a novice SL gets a leadership modifyer of O say... 20. Which of course would go to proabably 100. (heck they already got one that the human gets which does nothing as far as i can tell)

Fluffwise this leadership modifyer can work like a kinda ummm Battelfeild lore which allows commands to be issued with less of a fail rate the higher it is because said leader is more well known and greatly trusted among troops.

Heck at least that way there would be somthing of a point to being a master (not that there isn't now but well im sure you know what I mean)

I notice that when I am group hunting/grinding and have my harvest macro on, I cant seem to get rally to work. I also notice that when I add a pause of 1 second to my macro, I seem to get rally to work about every other time. Seems like a timming issue. Does anyone know why a harvesting macro would stop rally? Has anyone else come across this before and is there a known remedy?
Any help is appriciated.

I'm not too sure about this. It used to be that rally would prohibit harvesting, not the other way around. But that was pre-CU - and I haven't heard any complaints of that nature in quite some time.

How is it preventing rally from working? Is it breaking the zip bar? Do you use any other repeating macros, like a loot macro, and if so has it caused problems or just the harvest macro?

The zip bar would show but no rally flags so no rally.

These are the macros I was using and their effects:

Titled hides

/harvest hide;

/puase 1;

/macro hides;

With this macro, I can harvest hides. Good scount xp and I can gather 100k of a hide in no time.

Rally zip bar appears but only about evey other attempt at rally produces Rally.

With this version of the same macro:

/harvest hide;

/macro hides;

I get zip bar but no rally at all, ever, period.

I also was using this macro for a while and found that like the last macro, no rally when i tried:

/harvest hide;

/harvest loot;

/macro hides;

So, I am thinking that the pause allows rally to generate just about eveyother time.

If I increase it to 2 seconds puase, I should luck out and get about 70% of the time rally but would loose out on some hides.

I think its a timming issue.

I dont think rally works when a macro is working.

I was just wondering since most of you have more time as a SL then I.

Thanks for the comments.

I am going to work on this some more and will report back my findings.

Just ran6 tests, results.

Test 1: Rally Worked.

Macro:

/rally;

/harvest hide;

Test 2: Rally Worked.

Typed /harvest hide (did not hit enter)

Hit Rally button

Hit Enter (to activate pre-typed text) immediately after

Test 3: Rally Worked

Hit Rally Button

Hit Harvest button Immediately after.

Test 4: Rally Failed

Macro:

/harvest hide;

/macro test;

Attempted to use Rally with macro running.

Test 5: Rally Worked

Macro:

/loot;

/macro test;

Attempted to use Rally with macro running.

Test 6: Rally Worked after Dumping, very amusing!

Macro:

/harvest hide;

/harvest hide;

/rally;

/macro test;

Interesting, definately seems to be tied to running harvest in a looping macro from what I saw.
