Thread: So...why are you a Squad Leader?
I was initially attracted by the idea of the class; a leader, someone who can make PvP and PvE more effective. After earning SL, I, of course, learned that it was a completely useless class, where gameplay's concerned. So why have we bothered wasting all of those skill points that could be used on something that's actually productive?
Well, for me, I love the uniqueness. Commissar is, I think, the most badass title in the game.
Plus, I'm the only one I've ever seen with the title, and I've only seen a handful of other squad leaders. It's kind of cool to be one of a kind. ![]()
I also earn some respect from others just for having the title. Even though we don't add anything especially useful skillwise to a group, my guild assigns the squad leaders to lead the groups on PvP raids. It's assumed that we're good leaders. It's a nice perk.
Of course, there's always the hope that the devs will make our class useful. But it's just marginal.
So why are you a squad leader?
I had wild visions about the character I would play in the game. Bounty Hunter? Ranger? Smuggler? but as time went on, the character created itself and I found it to mirror my real life personality. I am, for all practical purposes, a SL in real life. By default my character became one because that is how I know to interact with people. Granted the skills are useless but it gives me a position to immerse myself and act the way my personality allows. So for me, I am not acting when I play my character but letting my character be an extension of my real personality. And as such, I am not seeking Holocrons to tell me I need to be a dancing chef or anything in order to unlock my FS slot. Sure, a jedi could be cool. but I just gotta be me!!
Kinda weird the way that worked out.....
Squad Leader, now and forever.
I thought it sounded like a fun profession. I knew very few people would choose it, rather wanting to master in personal combat professions. Another reason is because I enjoy leading players in online games. I was the leader of my own clan in SOCOM (PS2), and had fun with it.
But amongst all other reasons, one vivid vision stood out in my mind... Roque Squadron Leader... All I can say is that once the Space Expansion comes out and skill points are added for Pilot, there better be a special 'Rogue Squadron Leader' profession that branches off of Master Squad leader... Mmmm.. 'Tis my dream...

Master Ranger/Carbineer/Squad Leader
Good question really, I was attracted to the Profession before SWG was launched. Thought it had a lot of potential for large scale battles.
Then I played and became a Master Artisan, Novice Marksman, Novice Scout, and Novice Pistoleer. Started organizing large scale big game hunts off world for friends and complete starngers at times. Was rather sucessful at it actually.
Then I ran into a SquadLeader for the first time while hunting Krayt Dragons on Tat, this had to be back in late July or August, he didn't lead very well lets leave it at that shall we.
That in itself made me rather upset, I went and picked up Novice SquadLeader the next night after the hunt. Been running with it ever since then. Was 2/3 the way to Master when the exp screwups happened, finished it off maybe 3 days later. I took my time at it, that and having to find a trainer for it was a real drag.
Now I have started seeing a lot more potential in the SL Profession lately as I've ben PvPing a lot more often including full scale raids on Imperial instalations.
Found many bugs and many good ways to use the abilities even when they were broken for so long.
Now I lead group into battle on a regular basis and get called to help defend different bases around the star systems. Make me very proud to stand at a crowded star port and begin sending outa Mass of Tells to the rebels I see to come defend such and such base, and then get told they are on their way when they see the Commissar Title I usually wear.
Well enough of my tale...
Commissar Elowa
"May the Rally be with you, as the Devs aren't"
i envisioned my dude as the kind of person that would lead you into battle and kindof stay passive just ordering air strikes and volleys of fire BUT he was the kind of person who would spring in when you were in trouble and kill the attacker INSTANTlY
well i started out to be a SL/TK and have stuck with it
Originally because it was almost the opposite of my typical soloist playstyle and I wanted to try a new role. Looked good on paper... It's actually kinda cool to lead a group and the title and pointy hat make people believe that you are capable of doing so. In those aspects the class delivered, but honestly the strength of an SL is all in his personal technique, this entire profession does little more than add some smoke and lights. By all rights SL's should be invaluable, not dispensable.
