One of the most usefull change that could be added is a way for the SL to play a waypoint down for the group. There are many times when we are doing a base raid or tracking down a target and the SL will spam out a WP up in system chat. Well that takes time for the people in the group to type out, and in some occurances we might already be dead before we have the chance to finish the WP. I came from planetside before SWG and was a Commander at rank 5. And as a Commander which is very similar to the SL in this game, you were able to place down a WP for other to see on there screen, making easy for people to regroup or attack a target. Some other good features were a SL only chat channel to keep a bunch of groups of SL's informed as to what is going on. SO they can all command their groups together and not have to worry about /tells back and forth. For people without Teamspeak or Ventrillo it can be very helpful.

I became an SL because it looked like fun, and am usually much better at strategies and planning than running in and shooting blindly.

After I was an SL for a bit, people told me I was a good SL. I paid attention to everything going on, HAMs, states, enemies spawning inside our group, etc. Also, I have never gotten so many positive responses for one skill, and that was the terrain negotiation skill mod I gave everyone. I was quite the life of the party.

After mounts and eventually speeders, my terrain negotiation mods weren't much required. Looking at the other skills I had to offer, they weren't really useful either. Form Up would only inhibit some professions, Boost Morale wasn't worth it, and I found that with only Master Pistoleer going with it, I wasn't any good by myself. So, since I wasn't in too many groups, I took on other professions to increase my usefulness to my guild and the Empire.
