Yeah, lets not turn this into a flamefest. Its frustrating to hear "what do you want" in return but TH means it. I don't think its wrong of us to ask for some interaction though. Just as the devs can be swayed by our opinions so can we be swayed by theirs. How large a role do the Devs want SL to play in the game? Are they looking to add more combat abilities to be balanced against other profs? Our #1 goal is to make squads with Squad Leaders a fearsome foe. Does that mean you have an intimidating grizzled SL chewing on a cigar (ala Sgt Rock) or is it the brilliant commander positioning and bolstering his forces to take advantage of all their strengths while hiding their weaknesses (ala Patton or Rommel.) It might be a combination of both (ala Nick Fury.) That's what we want to see...all three!

I think the devs need to plot what they think is ideal and then let the players discuss it, asking for 100 different directions for SL wont get anywhere, and will just drag the issue out longer.

Honestly, the devs are open to your suggestions and I want to collect them, organize them and deliver them during the development process.

Dont you guys have a vision of what you want to be?

What Squad Leaders envision for themselves abound on this board. It just takes a read... I'm sure much of it will be helpful, although some of it won't be.

My concern is this: Do the developers themselves have a vision for Squad Leaders? Do they themselves have a compelling design in the works for Squad Leaders and group play? Asking players to do the design work for them sounds vaguely good in theory, but without investing themselves into the profession and being the creative drive behind a revamp, the best they can do is implement to appease, without truly understanding things from the player's perspective. Without the tang of inspiration and vision, what falls is destined to be neither elegant, satisfactory, or particularly well thought out.

Asking players what they want (whenthe community itself can't agree on everything), then filtering that through a set of restrictions that have been previously decided upon-- when the design staff isn't vested enough into the profession and doesn't have enough creative vision to relax or do away with these restrictions... is a recipe for disaster. Squad Leaders are more than a little bit afraid of having their revamp resemble that enjoyed by Droid Engineers in the latest publish.

TH, thanks for posting. We appreciate your presence here. But these sorts of discussions are more effective when the developers and players are able to bounce ideas off each other... when the players can see what the devs have in the works, can understand for themselves where the devs are going with things and what thoughts they've had on a matter-- when the spark of creativity and commitment is apparent from both sides of the red name.

No, they're not. Although Ranger likely needs muchmore work, they've alreadyhad some measure of dev attention many months ago. Squad Leaders haven't had much done for them other than borking, unborking, and borking the XP again since release.
