I figured I might as well post in here, seeing as I'm neither Squad Leader, nor am I ranger. (But Ironically, I have / can have the requirements for both)

A simple soloution to the debate would be that the factional fortifications (And to the person saying that fort was a different name for camp, you're mistaken) could only be placed by a declared squad leader.

Whereas, your rangers don't have to be declared, and can use their camps for PvE without fear of being ambushed by a player with an AT-ST. Perhaps maybe add BF healing to ranger camps?

Squad leaders do deserve a reward for their camping skill, and rangers by no means should be the only class with temporary structure. Look at it this way. Both docs and combat meds can heal damage, but one can buff, the other can poison the hell out of your mind. Squad leaders and Rangers can both build structures, but squad leaders give bonuses to their group and their faction forts (hopefully), and rangers can collect far more supplies from animals to sell along with other scouting bonuses.(Note the fact that part of the ranger profession assists them inearning moneyDIRECTLY)

And to be brutally honest to the rangers, your profession was *designed* for PvE. If you want something different, find something different. Trying to change your profession to what it isn't can ruin the essense of the game.

It's a simple balance and I'm surprised no one else has pointed it out. Or maybe I missed it?

First of all, I would like to say that we need to clarify the difference between a squad leader and ranger. Now it seems to me that all of the ranger profs current abilities are geared towards hunting, and wilderness survival. As it should be. When did Ranger become a more "war like" class than SL? The fortifications are a great Idea, and It makes no sense to mee AT ALL, why some ofour ranger friends think it fits their profs "motif" better. Other than "hey that's a cool idea, we want that!". I do think enableing fortifications and scout/ranger camps function in unison is a great idea. I don't however approve of someone's earlier suggestion of having the fort "require" another typed of camp. We want good abilities for our profession. Not just something that only works when certain individuals happen to be grouped with us.

I have not read anywhere in the Ranger forums that we want a "bunker" type thing. Only that we want to be able to leaveour camps and/or fight within them without having it disband. And of course to have the creature repell feature actually work. Have heard mention of giving us some bonuses for defense, not offense, but this was way back several months ago, not after this idea arose; and it is not a priority issue at all.

The only close exception would be the "hunting blind" which is really just that, any bonuses we get would be for creatures.

As far as us not being military, in the scout/ranger boxes I used to read the descriptions of the skills we would get, in the higher end it actually said we were getting military training. And, when we hit Master Ranger we do get ranged and melee defenses as well. In our tracking line we can track not only creatures but people and players as well, once again, that is clearly not just a hunting skill when you can track/hunt people and players.

Once again people want to make this a battlefield 1942 deal. You must realize that the advantage of fortifications like trenches are so you are out of view of the enemy...aka Line of Sight.

I all honesty there really is no viable use for sandbags or the type fo battlefield fortifications you talk of in SWG. If ground combat was twitch based...absolutly...but it is not. You already get passive defenses wether you are fortified or not.

Yes if we have the survival line, there must be a purpose for it...there isnt and the survival line should be removed as a SL pre-req.

Camps belong to rangers...heavy weapons like an E-web belong to commandos.

We are the leaders, the 2nd Luetinants making the 20 memebrs of our group fight as a single. We should be given commands and abilities that help us do that, and give a natural combat bonuses such as terrain neg, defenses and aim bonuses.
