Thread: Goodbye I Quit SL Correspondent Position

This is a sad day indeed. I know that I had been looking forward to seeing some news in regards our profession, but now I see that the Captain has quit, and then J3ST3R saying we shouldn't expect anything to be fixed for a long, long time. Hell, we are broken, have been broken since the game was released. So we can expect to be ignored for another few months until all the other classes are happy and fixed? That is unacceptable, and I can understand the Captain's frustration.

This is ridiculous. SL's have had nothing, zero attention since I bought the game the day it was released. How many other classes have had fixes, re-fixes, nerfs (wouldn't it be nice for us to hear cries of "Nerf teh SL's!!), new skills added, etc? I think it is safe to say plenty. What have we had? Oh yeah, we got our experience gained adjusted so that the holocron SL's could level themselves in a day and drop the profession so that they could move on to useful ones...

Which begs the question, why are we ignored? In my mind, it is simple, they feel they do not have to address our issues because no one wants to be a Squad Leader. They would rather spend their time dealing with popular classes, keeping the money from those folks, than to waste their time working with a small group of people trying to survive with a broken class. Which is sad, because isn't our money worth some attention as well? From recent examples, no, it isn't. At this point, even a fixed skill like /boostmorale would do wonders with us. Unfortunately, we will have to wait a long, long time...

Before I get flamed, I will say that I have been a lurker in these forums since day one, and that this account is new. I have been watching quietly from the wings, and I do enjoy being a Squad Leader. But seeing the Captain leave, after so much hard workhe has put into trying to get us fixed, well, I just had to say the aboveto get it off my chest...

To the Captain: /salute

To my fellow SL's: /salute

Have no fear Squad leaders, while I will not cut and paste things, I can assure you your Top 5 did eventually make it in Just today, a slight bit behind the power curve for it to be posted where TH was looking for it But it is listed.

What you don't understand is how broken the SL proffesion is. We can do absolutely nothing. Our profession needs a complete overhaul. Our problems can not be narrowed down into 5 isssues.

Nobody is asking to narrow our issues down to 5. Thunderheart is in the process of collecting the TOP 5 issues so that the most important things get fixed first. That doesn't mean it's getting "narrowed down" it means its getting simplified.

The more I think about it, I don't know that it's entirely fair to call Squad Leader "broken" because most of our commands are basically WAD (working as designed). The problem with Squad Leader is that it isunderpowered to the point of near-uselessness. The problem is not that we have to come up with a top 5, the problem is that we haven't had any developer response.

We aren't "broken" because our job is to lead groups and we can do that just fine. The problem is nearly EVERY other profession is better at our job than we are!

Well we lost the Correspondent, but CP got himself a lot of more free time..

Can't say I think you made the wrong decision, CaptainVemnox. Maybe that consequence in your course of action brought more to the spirit of a SL community then its previous efforts combined.

Sure did for me.

You've done your best Capt Vem. And we appreciate your efforts for it.

You fought the battle hard and did your best for the community.

Why cant SOE understand that Squad Leaders are far too broken to be summarized as a TOP 5 Issue, if everything is broken, how do we know what is supposed to be our top 5....

Anyway I'm dropping Master Squad Leader as well, I've had it for a month now and has been Squad Leader eversince I bought the game 5 months ago. I'm finally going to try something more fun that helps a group....

Well, I'm sad Vemnox is leaving and I'm ticked at TH. He knows how important the top 5 lists are to the players right now. The fact that we didn't get a response and he didn't submit our Top 5 list to the Devs means we got no attention, no committee work, etc. If one of the 34 professions he's responsible for did not get the attention it needed then HE needed to try harder to get that information. That is his job and that is what they are paying him for. If he is asking Vem for it and Vem is being stubborn then TH, as a professional, CANNOT dig his heels in. At that point he has to go to the Corr forum and grab the report, or come to this forum and grab the report. Vemnox is the volunteer that was working with TH, not for TH. TH cannot put the blame on Vem for not getting the report, regardless of how he felt about Vemnox's attitude. That's the worst part of this whole thing. If my boss asked me for a report and I had problems getting a piece of information for that report he will not accept the excuse from me that "Joe wouldn't get me the info." He'll ask why I didn't get that info from a different source. I am responsible for gathering and processing the information for him. A small but important part of their customer base is being screwed because TH decided he needed to play power games with one of his VOLUNTEERS!

So, my feeling on the matter being expressed, we need to move quickly here because our window of opportunity is closing. Apparently the Devs have done a 180 and are doing NOTHING without player input now. If we do not get our "Top 5" heard and worked on quickly we will languish for another month or more of gaming. Worse, we may get whatever the Devs think SL needs and it is clear enough to me that in the small amount of playing time they get to that no Dev plays a Sqaud Leader. Ironically they only have time to solo in this game they wanted to be the ultimate grouping game. If you solo...you can't SL. If you don't SL, you can't understand the class. So you have to listen to the players. But they aren't and now our best advocate is gone.

Well after reading this thread over and over, I see what the problem is. Unless your leaving some details out, it sounds like you misunderstood TH directions.

Correct me if I'm making a mistake here but TH makes a top 5 issues in the correspondent thread. You immediately reference your report #3 thread. TH verifies that's what he wants, but I think he ment he wanted a repaste in the Top 5 issues thread. He then goes in your SL thread and realizes that you can't just repost it, its too broad. So he asks you to paraphrase it to 5 issues and I believe post it in his top 5 issues thread. You refuse. He asks again. You then make a the paraphrased version, but instead of posting in the 5 issues thread you post in your SL report #3 thread. He looks over it, and says its 'fine', meaning its good to go to the top 5 issues thread. Of course you think you don't have to repaste it, so there's the misunderstanding.

Well when he goes to check the thread and its not there. Since you've been acting angsty towards him he assumes you didn't post it to top 5 issues on purpose. He asks for it again to be posted in that thread, and you, in you misunderstanding, rebukes him again becauses its already in the SL report #3 thread you made. Finally the doctor correspondant, understanding the misunderstanding simply pastes in the thread that TH needed and in TH's mind the job is done.

Unless your leaving out some details, its sounds like you got mad for no reason. Just my thoughts.

You've got it mostly right. Captain had a couple of masterpieces that he had invested a lot of time, effort, and himself in. TH didn't want it. He wanted something simpler. That's where the conflict came in.

I'm going to come down on the side of Captain on this one. Not because SOE hasn't invested some efforts of their own, but because 5 months is way too long to figure out how to listen.

Not to be all, "The King is dead, long live the king..." but I think we should stop debating on whether Vem was right or wrong and move forward tohelp this profession. Right now is a critical point. With TH'sprofession correspondent plan on the horizon we need to be ready so our class is not passed by.

Vem suggested OmegasNeo for the position, and I second that suggestion. We need someone who is dedicated to the profession.
