I don't know what military service you served in, but as a 10 year combat arms vet (tank commander) if I sat back and did nothing durring REAL combat, I'd be shot by my own troops. I understand the concept, but what good do I do if I sit there and watch others around me struggle to kill things? I'm supposed to be the combat guru, the squad LEADER. Not the squad watcher. I have several members of my guild that I hunt with, and honestly, if I'm not at the forefront of our fights, we die. period. I'm there to lead them, not watch them.

Darth... it sounds like you do a fine job leading your group as a fighter/ch to begin with. If you want to continue to grow in that role, I have to warn you that going through the SL tree will do NOTHING to add to your abilities (or the group's for that matter). I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it's the sad truth that in our current state, our skill points are WASTED in SL. Your friends would much rather you spend those points in medic or something... trust me.

Apathy... it's the SLs best friend.

The Old formula works best and is near impossible to exploit. To add a mild xp bonus for using SL skills would be nice, but then the overall old xp should be reduced slightly to make up for potentialy more XP by using the skills. ie. old way total XP 2000, new way total XP 2200 -1900old way + 300 using skills.

I became a Master SL the old way, it was not easy to attain but it wasnt painfully slow either, this would give newer players a boost in XP rate to attain Master but wouldn't make everyone who got Master prior to this feel as though they got their time invested in XP'ing ripped off in comparison.

XP aside...this is a pretty small issue to be dealing with, I know it's a bone they tossed us but fixing what we have is way more important IMHO, well not so humble opinion i guess.

My friend an Ifinished off a Merc Warlord on Lok last night. He got lots of xps in TKA, I got 12xp in SL! Twelve! TWELVE! I need 450k for Commissar, lets do some arithmatic. How many Merc Warlords will it take me, in a group of 4(friend, NonCH pet, probot, myself) to reach this goal? A zillion freaking years! Do I get anything for using my slash commands specific to SL? A big fat NO! NONE!

FIRE THESE DEVELOPERS! FIRE THEM ALL!

I quit playing for the weekend. This wasn't fixed today like they said it would be. And I know no patches go in on the weekends...

Was this even discussed before it went on the live servers? Who did the discussions, where do they live?

Never apologize on a forum. What good did this do ya? The original poster has prolly moved on. Only the people who have a strong interest in this are here. Specifically this topic. And I can tell you, I don't care one bit for whatever you post, just keep posting and keep bumping this topic. It NEEDS to be infront of someone at SOE.

An equition won't fix this problem. Command executed rewards will fix it from within the SL skilltree. No other profession, other character, pet, etc.. should generate xps for this skill.

I am eager to see changes to this class. The right changes.SL is inneed of changes. I can't say whether its more in need or not, because Iam a Mon Calamari SL(3024)/Surveyor(4004). I am usually first to die on battlefield, have been for months. If I lead from the rear or the front, it just doesn't matter. That is a mute point. If you really wanna know, I normally lead from behind a tree. It does me no good todie, can't use /Formup, can't use /Rally from incap. I never use /Retreat.My troopers know when totake evasive actions, they don't need me to give a shoutout.

SL xps needs to be based on the commands they use multiplied by their current rank. It has nothing to do with combat, nothing to do with medics, and especially nothing to do with ch xps. Group commands(Rally, Formup, etc..)need to produce SL XPs. Hopefully there are some new ones in the hopper for SL, specifically to replace /Retreat.

The sole purpose of being a leader is to lead, and from leading our xp should be generated in combat or out. Don't we need to sit in the cantina and yell for our followers, use /Sys to call for camp, call to target, call to break camp, etc? I do. Of course I am not in a PA.

Gaining xps thru the actions of ourselves or our followers in combat alone is just not right. The in game mechanism that ranks leaders is RANK. The multiplier needs to take rank into consideration. Carebears in the current system can acquire rank. Anyone can now that Rank pts are transferable. As an active carebear Second LT, I can tell you with full certaintity that it's possible to acquire Rank w/o going PVP crazy. I just gotta be careful when your using marines is all.

I thinkthe recommendations here are open to abuse. I hope mine gets considered in the gist of things. But I don't have high hopes.

And if you use /Sys, prepare to make enemies. I have had people damand I stop spamming them, then when I wouldn't stop, and wouldn't tell them how to turn /Sys off, they left, and added me to ignore. It's a fruitless path, SL.

The only benefit is Terrain Negotiations, and I'm sorry to say, that doesn't affect pets.

So, then let me ask you this, I am a novice CH, master brawler, almost master marksman, master scout, and midlevel medic, What should I do if not SL? I'm already dumping one-handed sword, and probably Rifle and Pistol. Between my Vibro-Axe, and EE3 Carbine, I drop stuff in a hurry, but I want to find a "group" orriented elite skill. This was my obvious choice, since I am the only real combat orriented character in my guild. Thoughts?

first off... sorry Capn V, this thread has gotten pretty off topic.

but anywho... Darth, it's all up to personal preference of course. But why not continue into one of the melee elite classes? Or up to combat medic? My main point is that we all WANT SL to be a successful SUPPORT class, but as it is now, we don't add anything worthwhile to a group other than our personal gaming abilities. So just take those personal gaming abilities and give yourself more to work with in another WORKING profession of your choice.

I also appologize for getting off topic.

My concern is this. Ihave over 150k xp for this profession. for all you out therethat are master and have lots more hats off. but if this gets fixed, and other good things come out for the skill, then I'm out all that work. (begging others to group with me is hard work) but unless I see a change soon, I guess that combat medic'll have to do.

OK, I did the last leg of the Cries of Alderan Act II with some friends Firday. we wiped out some stormtroopers, as well as the officer. I got a total of about 1000 SL xp. now, I also had my pet out and had her in the fight.every creature I killed, got me 560 xp for CH.here's my complaint, and I hope that I don't sound like a whiner. each of the starting skills for CH are 17500 a piece. SL is 175000. IF the bouns' for SL were WAY better than CH, I would not mind this. But, you cannot tell me that /raly, or /sysgroup, or ALL the bonus' that we have can come close to the ability to field a Rancor, or Grand Mauler in combat. period. If I was getting 3 - 4k of xp for kills, then the cost would be more justified. but as the current situation stands, this has become a waste of my time. I know that they changed the xp values the other day, but I'm still not getting any decent xp. we were doing huurton liars on dantooine, and we did 4-5 lairs worth of huurtons, and I got a TOTAL of less than 2000xp for all the creatures at 4-5 lairs. can I get any sort of explination? why must I get 175000 for a skill, when classes like CH only need 17500? hell, even combat medic doesn't have the point cost we do. and they're supposed to be a combat class too. I don't get it. any suggestions?

and furtherfore, why do they have people creating "dantooine meditation areas" for player cities, insted of fixing problems with the professions? (show of hands.....who's more interested in Player city gardens over fixing professions?)
