Thread: What is Squad Leader

When I think of a Squad Leader, I visualize the main character from two different movies. Mel Gibson in "We Were Soldiers" and Richard Winters in "Band of Brothers". I've been thinking for about half an hour about it, and taking from what the two of those characters did throughout their films I came up with two ideas I think are good and feasible for us SLs to use in-game.

This first one was mentioned earlier in this thread, and I really liked it.

1)Heads down!

-Give a bonus to ranged defense for the entire party, but lowers the SL's ranged defense. We've all seen it in movies where the commander is standing straight up and barking commands with bullets flying all about him, whilehis troops lay flat on the ground trembling.

2) Charge!

-Grants the entire party Burst Run and gives a bonus to melee attacks.

Just on a related note, I also think that every single one of our specials should have text associated with it. That's one of the coolest parts of our profession. "Keep your heads down if you want to keep them!"

I think a formation command would be good. A command that makes every one line up in the choisen formation (taking control away from the player temp) and then returning control. However it should be used once every 10-15 min to avoid being taken advantage of.

How about the ability to plot group waypoints that show up automatically for all in the group

Yes! Absolutely! Squad leaders are about communication and coordination. Give us tools to make communication easier. Give us group waypoints, group maps, the ability to do specials without being banned by a CSR for spamming, group targeting (not forced targeting mind you), enhanced visibility to your soldiers and a /sys that is more visible (even using colors my combat medics in particular always miss commands because of the sys spam from area effect stims). Communication improvements should almost always be available at novice.

If I thought I could get away with a request for voice services I'd ask for that too...

AKYI - Rebel Lieutenant * Officer * Alliance Pilot * Elder Heavy Swordsman * Master Explorer - Moenia, Naboo, Starsider

THE OCEP'FA FAMILY- An unfortunate family of Imperial Twi'leks: Atrasi (Starsider) * Mintrasi (Test Center) * Itrasi (JTL Beta) * Zitrasi (Combat Upgrade Beta) * Petrasi (RotW Beta) * Zetrasi (TOW Beta) * Botrasi (NGE Beta)

I support being able to "live" in the world of SWG, not just fight in it.

I think a good idea is if you could set priority targets. And to everyone in the group they would falsh and stand out as someone to kill first. I.E. The enemy CM
