Thread: If the Devs fixed or revamped SL, what would they need to fix or add?

I Think that Squad Leader (Maybe Master) should get a new Command Box that shows a Top down View of the battlefield (Much like the building placement view) and has the ability to place "Markers", like waypoints but connected to eachother by a line (Much like the old /find command for in NPC Towns) that all other group members can see, Also if they added a Platoon system the Squad Leader could use different Coloured Markers for the different groups, blue, red, green, etc, To help in the grand plan
Also would be interesting if you could have different marker types, like Attack and Defend... Might be getting abit carried away now though
Doh, I stopped reading the stickies here months ago except when I need to cite specific info in another forum.

Hmm, what if SL's XP requirements worked like BH where each line requires something different? An SL would require Pistols, Carbines, Rifles, and Combat XP. Less work for the devs then a general weapon xp.
FWIW, I suggested that as one solution to the XP issue in the "State of the Profession" sticky up top.
I personally would like to see us able to command NPC "squads". Now I know this is a touchy subject so...
*uses Squad Leader command voice* "Hear me out maggots before ya' git yer little pink panties all in a bind!!"
This would be an ADDITIONAL ability, not replacing any current ability, and only given at Master level. This would allow us to continue to lead players as we do now (as borked as it is....), BUT also able to call out up to 3 NPC factional soldiers as well. These 3 NPCs WOULD count against the max. group members number (8) whether grouped with or not - there by avoiding the 8 MSLs grouped together with 3 NPCs each. SLs could use the NPCs for show or to bolster a groups number in case it was less than 8 (obviously Imperial SL's could only call out 3 troopers (not 3 AT-STs).
I think this would be a terriffic bonus for being a dedicated (i.e.Master) Squad Leader. It would makebeing a SL more attractive - I mean who wouldn't be impressed by someone being followed by a group of soldiers in formation? If those"animal lovers" (CHs) can "command" numerous NPC "pets", why can't MSLs actually command numerous NPC soldiers?
NPC Handling should be for faction Rank, not for bein a SL. I mean, how can a private command3 soldiers while a colonel gets 1?
We are not NPC Handlers.
1. Belongs as Faction content.
2. Hurts non-faction SLs unless a hire merc option is put in.
3. Why? At MSL you are at leastCL 54, the highest faction NPC pet is what? CL 35? AT-ST I think might be 54... The in-formation, while cool, looks cooler when you get a group of players that can pull it off. If you really want NPCs, have friends pull pets and order their pets to follow you around.
4. SL =/= NPC CH

1. Are we not in a War right now? (everythings faction content)
2. Merc's are a fine idea!
3. Why not? So my NPCs get pasted quickly - just forces me to spend more FP which the Devs love us to do. As for being followed by other peoples pets.... how exactlty am I supposed to command them into action, formation, or anything else for that matter? And how does this make me stand out as a SL compared to anyone else who can do the same thing?
4. READ THE FIRST SENTENCE of the third paragraph....This is an ADDITIONAL ability, a bonus, a perk. Use it or don't. It takes NOTHING away from the ability to lead players.
Giving us control of NPCs is a waste of development time. I would rather them work on skills to help us improve the combat efficiency of PCs then to allow us to control more NPCs then other people.
Controlling Faction NPCs should be dealing with rank only.

Loki, how about they bring back the CL 300 Krayts for the Jedi (the SOE's largest player base, it seems). They want better pearls, and the only way they'll get that is through high-end krayt spawns. This will lead to the the need for larger groups.
How about Dark Jedi Masters? How about bolstering GCW and making large-scale PvP happen? People say that Jedi rule the GCW. Fine. Let's band together in larger groups to take them down.
I see a TON of potential here.
Do we have to get 16 player groups, no. Can I live with halving the group slot bonuses, yes. 12 still isn't game breaking, IMO. I can see your argument that a 16 player (essentially, a "double group") group could be game breaking.
I see the game taking steps BACK in difficulty. I'd rather see this game get HARDER, not easier. I say, bring on the tougher stuff, and let Squad Leaders command, the way they've done throughout ALL wars.

A raid ability, with raid chat and a raid-window (so you can see health/ buffs of everyone) that is smaller then the group one would be nice. If we get that, the SL bonus will only apply to his group, and not the raid, which I think I'm fine with. You can get around the raid chat by using chat channels for your side, but you have to get everyone to create it before hand.
This wouldn't be just for predesigned encounters either. Sure, something like Necrosis and the Vette should exist for these raiding parties, but also there should just be random spawns around the world. Fairly rare, but random spawns. Like the bladeback spider.
