Thread: Official: Squad Leader Correspondent Report (Prototype/Rough Draft) for September 5
Our ideas are not weak. There are many good ideas floating around here. What is weak is our community; there are very few of us compared to other professions (many of whom have already given up). We are disorganized and even sometimes confrontational, compared to (for example) the Ranger community which had a great deal of unity and a singular vision for what they wanted to happen for their profession.
I know the Devs stated their desire with the correspondant system was for us to state our problems and let them come up with the solution. This isn't working for us. The SL Dev is like a man lost in the desert, clinging to an oasis that's quickly drying up; he's lost and alone, and it's obvious he won't get anywhere unless he's willing to take a chance and set off into unknown territory, but he's afraid to try so he just stays by the fast-evaporating drops of water he has left. He needs our ideas, whether he likes it or not, because he isn't coming up with reasonable solutions to our very reasonably stated problems on his own.

Hey there. Fairly new lurker here but I'll provide a little input.
I thought the length of the document was fine. It's long enough to show that some thought was put into it yet not too long to easily digest. Well done.
And now, a comment on changes..
I'm still against healing mind damage. I LIKE the fact that there are things that groups can't cure instantly. Groups shouldn't be able to hack-n-slash (shoot-and-loot?) on a sun up to sun down basis. The Zerg is not a known SWG playable race. I would be amenable to having discounted HAM costs for actions done while in a group lead by a Squad Leader, however. I'd also think that a group lead by a squad leader would accumulate battle fatigue at a slower rate than other groups (perhaps on an incremental basis?)
Me want EDIT! ![]()
Anyway...one other point I think should be made more strongly in Vem's document is that SLs generally feel useless. I know you kind of make the point already Vem, but I think it really is the main point. We feel useless and the new skills don't help with that.

Nochmal,
I'm actually very glad you noticed and bought that up. The report is, in fact, distilled. I purposely threw in some pro-new abilities and pro-current SL quotes because if I'm trying to show what the community is saying - I have to show all sides of it. I kept it in-line with the percententages of people who voted for or against something.
Although I could have went all out on a flamage of the new abilities and posted nothing but negativity, I had to remain on a unbiased, but consensual standpoint. If this were a personal Vemnox report, you'd have seen exactly what you are saying.
I see your point Vem and realized that was what you were doing as I read the document...and I have been one of those people who picks on you when I feel you aren't being balanced enough. Fair point. Still, I do think you should make the point that we feel useless more strongly...not many people disagree with that point and it is the central point of most people's discontent.
If someone has vision for the future of something, they will rock a few (many?) boats on the way to achieving that vision. At this point I would be happy for someone to display vision for SLs and push it through. Obviously, that should be what the DEVs are doing...but as far as I can tell they aren't. So, maybe it is up to us to try to push a vision on them. So, yeah...I guess I'm frustrated enough to say to heck with my opinions and let's just find some central point and hammer on it. I think one point we can get enough people to support is the "we feel useless, give us a reason to exist" point.
*deep sigh*
You done good here for the most part Vem...and it's just some of us being frustrated with the DEV's lack of vision that is causing us to nitpick the document. Still....take out the color in /sysgroup thing and think about adding a stronger statement of our feelings of uselessness.
Thanks,

There are multiple threads in this forum on how to use color in /sysgroup. It comes down to this:
/sysgroup \#ff0000\ I just said something in red over /sysgroup.
Or, to save typing in hecticcombat moments:
/alias rr /sysgroup \#ff0000\
and then:
/rr I just said something in red over /sysgroup.
I use this as do others. If you want other colors, the color is defined by #RRGGBB where RR is the hex value of red between 00 and FF, GG is the same for green, and BB is the same for blue.It is quite easy to look up the RGB values for any given color.

One of the later posts in the thread has what works...
--Ze'ev
I, personally, would rather type /sysgroupred than /sysgroup /#FF0000/. Not everyone understands hex.
i personally like #ff8000 best, comes out as orange. Shows up well in chat, and well in the main screen.
Vem, very fine work. I recoginize the signifcant effort and time required to compile this report and I think you did a very good job at proportionatly balancing the report and representing all sides. You have my support.
Thanks,
