Thread: Official Discussion: Strategy
Wow... Fantastic idea.
Designating a "scout" would do wonders for this profession. What do you think would be the best way to implement this? A popup box with the "scouts" radar on it? Kinda like the survey popup?
Or would it be better to have the "scout's" radar dots show up on the SL's radar?
I am partial to the popup option myself.
hum
which thread was the "pint man" concept in. I liked it as well....i think it was posted in the mobility thread......should be in TACTICS i think though.or leadership perhaps....seems more fitting in one of those 2 fields than in any other. Th eoriginal idea also had this for scout sonly, but i think an SL should be able to make ANY proff a point-man.....we are after all there to assign positions, details, etc.
maybe it was posted in the leadership thread.
*goes to look*

Auto assist would just make everyone angry. Now if it just gave special attention to certain enemy fine but the guy who's being chased by a kunga warrior breathing down his neck is not gonna want to shoot anyone but the thing chasing him.
Except for the potential for griefing, I'd say that is as it should be though...In a situation where everyone is panicking and running around like headless chickens, the squad leader should be able to enforce some level of discipline, such as concentrating on a target, instead of every man for himself. By having it act as an auto-assist, there would be far less confusion, and coordination would be enhanced quite a bit. It would mean it isn't suited to every situation, but this is, hopefully, where the squad leader's own brain kicks in...
Further, ifsomeone really disagreed with choice of target, they could always change it back themselves. And if the squad leader *really* wantedthem to attack his choice, he calls for it again. It's costing him mind, andthem nothing. Eventually, they'd win fortheir choice of target. Of course, by then, both they and the squad leader would probably be dead, but really, that's half the fun... =)
You don't need a designate pointman option, just a Master Scout or Ranger. They have superior terrain negotiation and can scout the area ahead and report via group chat. Don't mean to rain on your parade, but I want to have something to do in a group, since the Ranger is a support profession.
I wasn't trying to detract from the SL. How many times is a BH in the group? they're also master Scouts. Send them ahead.
As for SL and Ranger being rare, should our motto be:
The few, The proud... The few?

It's more about the SL being able to gather information. It really wont matter if the pointman is a scout or a tailor.
exactly

and that is also unfair to any group that doesnt have a ranegr with them. Sorry...but finding a master ranegr is just about as hard as finding a squad leader these days.
the SL should be able to designate anyoen they choose to this role.
I use /steadyaim when I have newbies in my group, it is a very small cost and lets them hit the target almost every time. The HAM cost is small enough that I can do it many many times in a row.
/volleyfire is for people that obviously can't do things by themselves. You don't need a Squad Leader if you all talk to each other and pay attention and work out plans for killing things.
I always thought that either the Squad Leader should get radar and/or overhead map information from a designated scout or just from everybody in the squad. For things like cities or large areas the Squad Leader can use this to see where everybody is and where every MOB, PC or building is all around him farther than 128m. Scouts would be a good profession to use for this, but this adds a more technological element rather than scouts just being efficient at being outdoors.
Btw a bit off topic but did they ever fix the ranged defense and melee defense mods? When I asked a CSA a month or two ago they said it still didn't work. *shrug*
a) all attacks hit the same ham-bar (ie do not roll hit location for each attack, roll just once and all attacks hit there)
b) all attacks hit the ham-bar that already sustained the most damage
c) all attacks hit the lowest ham-bar (probably too good though)
