I agree with Thule,

Any situation that provides solo opportunities for SL's (besides those related to other professions) is unacceptable.

I have to confess something: I feel much more like a Squad-Leader when I command a group of NPCs than when leading one of our hunting-parties. This is due to the fact that we have a very experienced, very skilful team, where everybody knows what to do. Spam "/sys %TT is down" and the medics feel insulted. Everybody knows that the one whose mission it is engages first, everybody knows how to tap a lair, everybody knows to indicate the distance to their next mission-waypoint after the current target has been taken out and so on. All I can do is /rally and then let things flow. No, I don't complain, quite the contrary: it is very satisfying to be part of such a slick team and have smooth-going missions - I just want to point out that when I command NPCs I have to assign them a target, tell them whom and when to engage and so on and thus feel more a commander. But to give you some stuff to flame away: I am an avid player of strategy-games usually, SWG is my first MMORPG, perhaps I am spoilt by "Age of Kings" *g*...

I still hold to the argument Lithic brought forward earlier, in that there are times when I simply cannot find a group to join with. So I group with my pets, faction or otherwise.

The nice thing about NPC soldiers is that they always listen to you, more than I can say for human group members....

I cannot believe that this thread is still on the first page.

This is, by far, the dumbest idea I have ever heard, and I am now stupider for having read it. Thank you very much.

If you want to control pets, become a CH. If you want to lead men and women, walk down the long road of SL.

It is still on the first page because some people obviously want to discuss the idea. Dismissing an opinion as "dumb" just because it differs from one's own doesn't really qualify to "lead men and women"!

thule, faction pets do not have insane resists, or insane ham bars.

The SL has to pay in faction points for his pets. the CH doesnt. SL faction pets permadie, CH pets dont. SL pets dont 'tank' , CH pets do.

Ill give you a situation where you can try this out NOW so you can see how it works out.

Have3 friends go with you to a hunting spot. Say, dathomir (use science outpost to avoid the faction overt people that kill you when you get off the ship).

have them all pull out their 3 faction soldier troopers. If you rebel, im reffering to the 450 fp each cost ones.

Have your friends tell their pets to 'befriend' you or just have your friends follow you around (not grouping with you) and have them mimic your orders to your pets.

Go and hunt baz nitchs or something.

you will notice the faction pets do *not* tank at all. matter of fact you may lose a third of your troops per nest. all they do is fire the equivalent of a laser carbine on normal fire.

An SL in SOLO would be assisted by his factional troops. When leading other players, the SL may pull out his factional troops to increase the group's ranged firepower, albeit each troop being the equivalent of a marksman box4 player.

Or more importantly, when being OVERT, the SL would be a groups leader, bonus giver AND also the only one that can truly post 'guards' around the group, the group's base, etc etc. For he has the support personnel.

'Foolish boy. Don't you know anything about Fantasia? It's the world of human fantasy. Every part, every creature of it, is a piece of the dreams and hopes of mankind. Therefor, it has no boundaries.'
'But why is Fantasia dying then?'
'Because people have begun to loose their hopes and forget their dreams. So the nothing grows stronger. It's the emptiness that's left. It's like a despair, destroying this world. And I have been trying to help it.'
'But why?'
'Because people who have no hopes are easy to control. And whoever has control has the power'

How bout we make VOLLEY FIRE a Dammage Multiplier equivilant of Half a Stopping shot from the whole group, focused on one ham bar, the HEALTH bar...... That way, we can Increase our groups fire power in a conventional way, not by using Pets.

Swift, if you were attempting to show how pointless this post is by pointing out a true flaw in our profession, you are funny as hell.

It is not that this idea differs with my idea of how this profession should be, it differs with the Dev's idea.

Here is a brief synopsis of why this idea is crap, as well as the typing emminating from your fingers.

1) You have to be factioned. Lord knows there are no neutral SL. I guess they get turned into SOLs.

2) Faction pets perma-die, and cost a helluf a lot of FP to get.

3)Devs love grouping. In fact, they become sexually arroused by the idea (I do too). If faction pets were put under the control of SLs, it would no longer be a group assist profession, it would become a solo-n00b profession, like CH was.

Worst idea ever. Well, maby second to a tunafish and ice cream sandwhich...

I partially agree with this post. I'm no longer a SL because I thought that the profession wasn't worth spending the skill points. The Dev's have talked about reducing the number of faction pets to 1 for players. I think that SL's should be the exception for this change. Let them keep multiple faction pets based on their skills just like CH's. A Master SL would be able to have 3 faction pets. I don't think that CH's should be able to have multiple faction pets out. As I don't think SL's should be able to have multiple creature pets out. Creature pets should be totally separate from faction pets and droids should be separate from them all.

Now, my other idea is for those who don't want to be a rebel or imperial. Maybe introduce a couple more factions that a PC can actually join. Such as Valarian/Jabba or Corsec/something. That way the PC can be involved in a gang war or police action or something. Yes, I know this game is supposed to be mostly about the rebel/imperial conflict. But, I think it would be cool to see some side actions take place. I personally would like to fight for Jabba against the Valarians. But, a player shouldn't be able to be a member of more than one faction. Like Imperial/Jabba. This would be wrong.

Along with my other faction idea... I think that Jabba/Valarian factions should have faction pets available. These shouldn't be as tough as stormtroopers or rebels. But, it would be fun.

kill this idea now... please? We lead people, we encourage GROUPS

If you can't find a group, tough luck eh? Your a Squad Leader, go to a Cantina, grab a couple of stiff drinks... Relax, do something else. If we get fixed properly, people will be begging to go on hunts with us.
