Hows that?

Squad Leader should be able to purchase 'faction pets' (rebel, imperial, multiple npc factions) with their faction points (to which SL's get bonus to get these points).

That way an SL should be able to tow around a full squad (12) of npc's...though the max allowed in group, of both players and npc's should be 12..so an SL cant have his 12 pets and 12 players or multiple SL's in a group towing the army of NPC's behind them. SL faction pets will only obey orders if they are in the group with the SL.

Of course, these faction pets will be SL-only. And with different capabilities and ham bars.

Aka,

cheapest:

Green Rifleman/Pistoleer/Carbinier (inexperienced, cheap 50 faction point cost, 1k ham, 100 damage per shot, no special using, lightly armored trooper)

Green Heavy Weapons Specialist (same as above, costs 100 points, 1k ham, fires rockets and grenades, 300 damage per shot, very slow refire rate, very inaccurate fire)

Veteran Rifleman/Pistoleer/Carbinier (experienced, 100 faction point cost, 3k ham, 200 damage per shot, uses 1 special every now and then, light armor trooper)

Veteran HW Specialist (same as green but costs 200 points, 3k ham, 600 damage with rockets/grenades, slow refire rate, inaccurate fire)

And so on with Expert, Battle Hardened and Master and finally SpecForce (which is both rifleman/pistoleer/carbineer AND heavy weapon user) adding +100 points and +2k ham per level up of pet). These faction pets suffer permadeath.

With this the SL can solo or complement his group's firepower as needed.

Of course, allow Novice SL's to take only the 'green' troops, and have access to the rest at the Master Title (otherwise we get SL dabblers from hell just to get the mass of support troops... and green troops will be easily slaughtered and pose little threat to even marskman/brawler with one box4)

'Foolish boy. Don't you know anything about Fantasia? It's the world of human fantasy. Every part, every creature of it, is a piece of the dreams and hopes of mankind. Therefor, it has no boundaries.'
'But why is Fantasia dying then?'
'Because people have begun to loose their hopes and forget their dreams. So the nothing grows stronger. It's the emptiness that's left. It's like a despair, destroying this world. And I have been trying to help it.'
'But why?'
'Because people who have no hopes are easy to control. And whoever has control has the power'

Heh, we're People Handlers.

What about non-faction squad leaders? I think they should impliment non-faction NPC mercenary that would be purchased with credits.

I have to agree with alot of other folks in this forum, and shoot this one down.

SL's shouldn't be able to solo. We lead people, not pets.

I *do* think we should get FP bonuses (for our entire group), and maybe more than 1 faction pet. But nothing special or uber, that other people can't get (with the appropriate faction rank).

I don't think we should solo. but I have 3 faction pets now, and I like useing them. I can't always get groups together, and they're the only way I can keep doing higher level Faction missions. But I think that the cap should be 3. possibly 4 at the Master level.

How about we lead people, and leave the pet junkies to FACTION Rank.

if you wnat to be a pet handler and solo with your persoanity impaired NPC pets then you should be a creture handler.

we are Player Leaders, we are here to support people, our profession demands that we work with others and turning us into a solo profession is just wrong.

why should we become SLs if all we are is just a clone of the Creature handler profession? do not turn us into Creture handlers! we are unique from all other profession and i would like us to stay that way

we need to improve this class yes but making SL into the thrid cousin of an other profession will never be the answer.

How do you improve the entire game, and one of the more useless professions at the same time? Well this is a start: Help Support the http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=squad_leader&message.id=10609>Fortification Proposal

I think its a great idea, like I've said before...the more humanoid pets the better. Giving us control over those pets makes us more powerful and more desirable to have in a group.

"we need to improve this class yes but making SL into the thrid cousin of an other profession will never be the answer."

Hmmm....like a pistoleer isn't the third cousin of a rifleman or of a carbineer? Think of how many ranged weapon classes there are: Bounty Hunter, Pistoleer, Carbineer, Rifleman, etc. etc. Now think of how many pet handling classes their are....

Answer: ONE.

There's plenty of room to differentiate ourselves from the Creature Handlers.

"we are Player Leaders, we are here to support people"

Why can't we do both?

"we are Player Leaders, we are here to support people, our profession demands that we work with others and turning us into a solo profession is just wrong."

We're not suggesting you make this a solo class...we should have the benefits of calling our own soldiers plus benefits that effect both the people and the pet soldiers.

Well stated. I don't want to be the Uber solo artist, just would like to have some bonus to the class for the times when I can't group with someone.

This could possibly be used to answer the question as to how we could use stationary guns that require 2 or more personal to opperate. Though this takes away from the fun of teamwork with others in the squad. Have our possible e-webber or whaterver opperated by 2 humanoid pets. You could call them out and they would set up the gun where you need it. Advantage is that you could have massive firepower in the group, but once set up it takes x amount of time for it to be broken down and moved. Also the idea of wandering around and finding a group of Jabba Swoops out in the desert and type /recrute to have them join up with you. That is if you had high enough FP with them and such. Just an idea to have the faction pets and possible SL pets being something different.
Just some random thoughts.

I don't want to command pets, i want to work with real people.

I want to make an effective squad of people, with their own way of thinking and their own common sense.
I want to supply these people with added benefits to reward the fact they are working together.
I want to form a team of individuals that enjoy playing together.
Lastly I want a groups to say to each other "We need a Squad Leader"

"Make Squad Leaders be the humanoid 'creature handlers'!" ??
I vote No.

My vote is a strong (but conditional) "No" as well. While I do support Squad Leaders having some abilities to survive on our own for when we can't get a group, and having additional faction npc pets would be a boon to a group. ...I think it's very important that we not ask for anything that could make SL's an uber Solo fighter because that goes against the very purpose of our profession.

If Squad Leaders became the profession that people chose so they could wield 3 AT-ST's or a platoon of DarkTroopers/Senior SpecForce...we'd start to see a lot of solo SL's, and that would be a Very Bad Thing(tm).

Again, let us never forget that playing as a Squad Leader should be a fun and rewarding experience, butourjob is to promote group play. It not only makes us unique, it makes us important towards improving SWG as a whole.

Hey, I'm not too overly thrilled at the prospect of being an NPC handler myself. But keep in mind that it's not what we want SL to be but what the Devs want. So if the Devs are of the same mindset as other people who have suggested the People pets then we will probably get them. But if that were to happen I would like it to be as best of a situation as possible and not just say "No" to any idea that comes along. We need to see what ideas come down the pipe and find ways to make them workable, like em or not.
But I agree with us not just being "people handlers". My vision of SL is to help everyone else in the group kick butt, not for me to be the butt kicker. That is not my job out there.
Anyway, be prepared to make lemon-aid out of lemons just in case.
