I agree with Volatris.

Squad Leader is as much a player skill as a character skill. The title should indicate competence at leading other players, not pets.

I have no problems with giving benefits to pets...

But XP? For a grouping, support class? Hm...

Maybe, if it was set to like 10% of normal XP, that might be appropriate....

It takes a ton of SL xp to even get one level one skill. Meanwhile I need cash. If I'm in a group of five people I get mission credits at 1/5th or less my normal speed. So I also need to solo from time to time to get the cash I need to buy my new SL skills because nobody else wants to do this stupid untested class. (I'm doing it because I wanted to be a SL from the beginning, not because the class makes any sense whatsoever.) If I stop progressing in SL xp it just sets me back further from those pistoleers and bounty hunters and whatnot that are getting gobs of xp by having their droid or creature act as a meat shield on a big mob. I have learned plenty how to lead a group just getting the combat xp to get SL! How to share, how to direct traffic, how to get people moving. Why does ever single point of xp I earn have to be with PCs? And who said something about not learning how to group on your way to SL? 22000 combat xp for range IV alone? an extra 7.5k for SL? That's a whole lot of grouping! If you haven't learned by then you simply shouldn't be a Squad Leader no matter how much you stand and earn SL xp with other people.

It does Volatris. Lets say that you kill a blue con MOB. I.e. for me a Whomp Rat. You earn 63 combat xp. Grouped with a pet you earn 126 squad leader xp. Now how many Rat's will it take for you to get1 box of squad leader? 175,000/126 = 1,388.88 Rat's to slay. Congrats, knock yourself out! Meanwhile I usually earn anywhere from 1,000 - 5,000 squad leader xp when fighting at the Tusken Camp near Wayfar. This is a fast spawn. I have already finished the leadership tree in SL and now I'm working on Tactics. I should have SL finished up by next week (Already have the apprentice points) The poin is that grouping with 20 people will ALWAYS be the preferred method of getting xp. If anything they need to nerf the multiplication bonus. (And after I'm done I'll make sure to jump up and down and scream for it j/k! )

DO THE MATH!

Like I posted above. I don't have a problem with it. If you can't find a group or play at odd hours you should NOT be punished. I do not want the class to become a begging class. BECAUSE UNTIL YOU GET PAST NOVICE WHAT CAN YOU OFFER THE GROUP BESIDES A PRETTY MESSAGE?

Sorry but the simple fact is not everyone can get a group when they want it. Not everyone came from (insert other game here) with (insert Uberguild here) where have the luxury of almost always having someone around to play with.

If a droid or creature or faction npc can join your group, then you are leading them and therefore should get squad leadership xp for it. I highly doubt anyone will be able to solo up to master squad leader with a droid or critter following them around. If someone has master squad leader over their head then you can bet they earned it both in game and player xp.

Like someone else said, who wants to see the class reduced to a bunch of people begging for groups? not me. There are times when you have no option but to solo, especially if you need to do missions for money, because not everyone has (insert Uberguild here) to pay their way or a friend/alt character that's a master weaponsmith and rich beyond belief.

I say let SL's be able to get xp with NPCs in the group, and leave it at that

I guess I'm misunderstanding why people are choosing to play Squad Leader...

Unless you love leading groups, isn't it just a big waste of skill points?

*boggle*

Question:

Aren't you talking about two different kinds of experience here? One is a role-play type of experience, experience for your character. The other is experience the user has gotten from gameplay. Isn't a little unfair to force people who want to role-play a squad leader character to actually be *REAL* gameplay leaders? Isn't part of role-playing being able to be something you're not? After all, nobody expects people who play creature handlers to *actually* be any good with animals, do we?

The reason I'm choosing squad leader is because I love leading groups.

But the fact is, there's not always a group for me to lead, or more often lately I just don't have enough time to play to get a good group going, and thats when I end up running a few quick solo missions. So being able to get squad leader xp while I do that is nice. I won't be getting a lot, but it's good to know that it's possible at least.

Nope, I play a squad leader because I love "bard" classes in MMO's and thats what this is. Yes I like to lead groups, but that's not all I want to do with my proffesion, especially as others have pointed out, that group isn't always there to lead. So why should my XP gain suffer?

Meanwhile I usually earn anywhere from 1,000 - 5,000 squad leader xp when fighting at the Tusken Camp near Wayfar.

I can pull in 1k SL exp a kill soloing on lok (yes soloing, my pets just sit back and watch)

This is not even with a full group fighting. Like I posted above, fighting with a full squad of 20 will always be the prefered method of getting the most xp. Once I get my Tactics finished, hopefully we can start some groups on Lok and Endor.

Btw: If your a SL on Chilastra watch out for Piawem. I was leading a group of 20 last night and he comes in and wants to get some of the SL xp. So I break up the group and explain that there is another SL and everyone should divide up. Well after we divide up he then starts mouthing off all kinds of crap.

Needless to say I will not be training his little arse anytime soon.

That last post has raised an issue thats been mulling around in my brain all night....

Is Squad Leader the only profession that requires you actually be somewhat good at the real-life version of the profession to succeed?

(Merchant is the only other one I can think of)

Is this a good thing?

A bad thing?

*mulls some more*

I agree with you wholeheartedly Palitrine. I wasn't trying to argue the fact just pointing out that it is way better and will be the most efficent use of your talents to get in a group of 20 and kill tough MOBs. I managed to earn 10k SL xp last night off a tusken captain. Not the norm but I was happy none the less. If you play at odd hours or can't find a group you should be able to group with your droid or your pet and get some (albeit minor) SL xp.

I now can have 2 pets out and my trusty mouse droid It helps to add to your group number when there aren't that many players around. Not to mention the only good use for /boostmorale to get rid of wounds!
