Like I said before, this idea has already been proposed, it tied in with the ability for the SL tohave special GCW related functions in special situations.
And it wasnt proposed to get rid of GTEF, it was geared more towards raids. Raiding is a great way to PvP and most of the time everyone enjoys themselves, yet the current system is full of flaws and bugs. The point was to make SL's a key figure in conducting a good raid, something I would love to see us become.
Instead of an instant shutout of his idea, see what you do like and don't like. See if there is anything that can be grafted into an idea of your own or an idea of yours that can be added to his. Come up with a compromise...
I agree he may not know where we stand, or everything we have been through, but at least let him post his opinion.
Heck, even I get a little worked up when people try to push for SL's to become "NPC Handlers". Just don't go overboard.

Regarding the poster who said this belongs in the GCW forum, you're right...but it has equal reason to be in the squad leader forums. Yes, it is a perk squad leader gets for being a colonel. If you are a raider, then obviously you're going to shoot for getting colonel rank as it will help your faction A LOT. If you are not a raider and / or don't participate as much in PVP, well then it shouldn't really matter to you. It can only help. I think some people might be interested in such a faction perk for squad leaders. I bet we would get a lot more positive feedback on this topic if there was a larger community of squad leaders out there. Unfortunately there isn't. I'd love to see more of you guys out there helping us with the cause.

I think you are biased that it wont solve the GTEF problem because you like GTEF. GTEF....it's easy....it's lazy.....it'sboring....it's tactless...it's cheap.These ideas makeour overt\covert system much more fun and tactful.
I understand where you are coming from regarding the "forced to be colonel" concept. And I am tickled at the vibroknuckler analogy someone posted, but think about it. If your profession is done justice in the combat revamp, theres going to be a swarm of people becoming squad leaders. If you are going to be given such a powerful ability to make your whole group overt, then only the best squad leaders should have it thus making them even more important. If we have a million squad leaders running around, then this ability would just be the norm. Colonel Squad leaders will be given much more respect. It's not just about the extra work it takes to gain your new skillas a faction perk, it's opportunity to achieve glory on your server asa highly sought aftersquad leader.
Besides it's not that hard to become a colonel. Did you ever think about grinding through your professionby leading groups to attack stormies instead of creatures? Kill two birds with one stone in theory.
As of now, faction rank means nothing. This will create an aura of immersion giving rank a tangible presence in the environment.
