Thread: Why a Squad Leader should be a strong class, not worthless...
sorry to say this guys... but to hope for a huge nuke skill from SLs is rediculous. lol
Holo has stated our purpose is for group buffs. We will never have any direct damage type skill... our job is to make our group work better.
Raven... become a Commando.

While I agree that getting a nuke is ridiculous.
The SL would be worthless w/o a group, a few minor tweaks and special abilities should be added to the SL to compensate for the fact that they are the only elite profession that NEEDS a group in order to get it to work.
Perhaps they could give SLs the abilities to purchase faction pets at a slightly discounted price.
Or allow them to purchase abilities that calls down air strikes, at the cost of faction points.
I like the idea of a faction discount. Personally, I think it deserves to be in the Squad Leader line more so then the smuggler, but eh. I also think some sort of "Mini-Recruiter" abilities would be nice, like having the ability to declare group member's faction while on the field.
I would much rather have our class get group buffs then these sort of "killer AoE attacks". Let my team, with the help of my group buffs, be my killer secret weapon, not some special move.
Declaring faction in the field? Thats better then Radar Jamming... You could move onto a party of opposing faction members and outright Ambush them... Why, it's so SANE it wont be implemented...
I mean seriously, if we are a combat oriented class, a Declaring faction in the field would make major sense... Make it a Master Squad Leader Ability.... It would open up the game for more sneaky playing... All we got to do is Get Rid of TEFs now, and let only Overts fight PvP... If your covert, you cannot attack an opposing faction member unless in a duel...
After all these great ideas, I would say something like this:
Based upon faction or faction territory would determine the strength of the AoE. Examples:
1. Doofus is an Imperial SL leading a squad of 6 imps down the bunny trail. This bunny trail is currently controlled by the Imp faction. Thus the AoE is labeled Artillery Barrage. The strongest AoE attack available of this line.
2. Doofus is a neutral and will only have access to medium AoE called Mortar Support
3. Doofus is a Rebel in Imp controlled territory, so being as he is far from home he will only have access to Fire Support, lowest of the AoEs.
This is just an idea. Could be that these AoE can only be used on installations or whatever, I am sure you got the gist of the idea......
Maybe we need to "Free Our Minds" when thinking up things an SL might bring to a group...
Perhaps a /volleyfire ability would make more sense if it either caused everyone's base attacks to be as or more powerful than their best special, OR ELSE there are types of /volleyfire, such as /volleyfiresuppression and /volleyfirebodyshot2, which would in effect be the same as everyone firing an advanced ability, regardless of weapon equipped. The effect could even be an area effect, so that multiple enemies around the target could be damaged to some degree, or have a chance to be suppressed themselves.
Apowerful AoE attack ability is not so outrageous if it is expensive in terms of FP or HAM cost to purchase or use, OR if there is a long timer on its usage. And of course, there is nothing that says an AoE attack ability has to be all that powerful in the first place. I'm not in favor of 'nukes'. But artillery/mortar strikes that must be purchased with FP by an overt member of a certain rank and level are very fitting with what already exists in the game. (AT-STs and other faction pets, weapons, etc.)
Of course, the power of the ability could and should be tied to SL level, group size, and faction rank if speaking of faction benefits.
If the SL has a /battlecry abilitywith a chance for some kind of AofE Intimidation, then its success/rangeshould certainlybe dependent on the number of members in the group, as well as the advancement of the SL.
I have always been partial to the idea of an Air strike. Wouldn't that be awesome!? If you had either a small group of Tie fighters or X-wings fly over and bombard the enemy group; after all these ships are in this time period. The Requirements could be something like you have to be Master Squad leader, have a minimum number of 10 people in the group (which could include pets and FP pets) and have a re-use time of about an hour. After all we are supposed to be Squad leaders and in crunch time we should have some ability that will help bring our group on top!
I too would much rather have an ability that I would save for the right moment, rather than have a bunch of non passive abilities. After all I want to be able to play my character and have some visible impact when it comes to boosting my group through my Squad leader abilities. It's a shame that SOE won't give the power that this class deserves and the vision that all of us have for it!
