Thread: Why a Squad Leader should be a strong class, not worthless...
It's very simple - because we cannot use our abilities solo.
Everyone else can use their abilities while solo, we cannot. I believe that qualifies SL to be something special, not worthless.
Yeah thats why we should get some kinda powerfull skill. Even if all our current skills were working and the propossed skills by vemnox was added we still wouldnt be strong enough.
We need somthing that will give our group an edge in PvP. Nothing that has been suggested does that. We need like some kinda AOE tactical nuke strike or somthin. Now ya could restrict it you could put a 10 minutetimer on ittheycould even require us to have at least 5 group members or somthin like that.
But for the love of god give us somthin thats gonna make people fear group's with Squad Leaders.
Yea this point has been on the boards often. We are nothing without groups, when we solo we are giving up every elite skill we have. If we don't LEAD the group we give up every elite skill we have. There really needs to be some payback for all this. It needs to make us a extremely desirable class for groups. I dont think any class in MORPGS has been this group dependent.
Even clerics in EQ got nukes, really good against undead, Enchanters had stuff too......we got jack unless leading a group, they need to give us a good reason to be in that spot.
I would really like an area barrage effect. A unified Area attack that causes some serious status ailments. Think about it, if an entire group of say at least 6 were to simultaneously fire on a single target or group, the unified barrage of all those blasts should at least cause a guy to bleed, stun, dizzy and knock a man down. Something like that, just a big area spray and pray attack would make my day.
I favor all the group bonus's and the ablity to lower ham costs for the group would be one of the most useful skills ever, BUT I want some **edit** offesnsive might from this class.
Even if it is enough of a edge so what dude thats lame. I want to see my skills wasting people in battle. I wanna watch them all drop at the same time from a big explosion. now thats what i am talking about.
I rather have somthing that i have to save to use when i really need it. not lil bonus's that i cant vissually see working. sure if our passive's were working and they determined the outcome of a battle over a squad without a Squad Leader, then thats great grand wonderfull. However i still want somthing cool that makes them say "Holy Crap we just got 0wned".
If they've yet to fix our current passive stat mods, what makes you think they'd give us something so blatantly overpowered like a nuke (or rough Star Wars equivalent of) attack?
It doesn't even work from a role playing perspective either, because what would a lowly Squad Leader be doing with the ability to call in a strike like that, or for that matter, where would such firepower even come from? Not all squad leaders are a part of a faction, and even if they are the Rebels/Imperials just wouldn't give anyone who leads a small squad around that kind of devastating power.

I would also like to see some kind of area-effect offensive attack or debuff, whether it be something like a /battlecry that might have a chance to fire an area-effect initimidation, or something like an air-strike/artillery-strike (even if fp has to be expended to purchase each strike). BTW, it would be an additional benefit to the SL profession if certain faction items/benefits were purchaseable only by SLs of certain skills and ranks. I personally am in favor of limiting the purchase of AT-STs to SLs only. Imp SLs could call in TIE fighter or bomber attacks and Reb SLs could call in air-speeder or Y-Wing attacks.
I would like to see several Group Focus Fire Specials... Where everyone in the group fires a special into intended target...
But that Nuke idea is just well, stupid... A Squad Leader doesn't blow things up, thats a commandos job... A Squad Leader makes his group more efficient in their killing * special attacks on groups and whatnot *
A group area attack would be awesome, a sort of group supression fire... Everyone in the group sprays the area with a Supression type attack causing medium dammage and lowering postures... In Real Life if a Fire Team of six people opened up on you with all their guns, you would duck very quickly and probably get knocked on your butt by a few stray shots or very well aimed shots... This is a good idea...
But we need a fewFocus Fire Specials to help in combat, Something that would make us useful in PvP more so then a regular grunt, WE wont be killing people however... The Whole Squad will be...
