Thread: 2 questions for squad leaders
For purely Support and some Damage Dealing- Go the following:
Master Squad Leader / Master Squad Leader / Commando 0-2-1-0
This is a fun template, as you have the beam cannon,, launcher pistol, rocket launcher, which doesn't aggro everything in sight, and you can bust bases, in fact you have 3 professions that can bust a base, all you have to find is a BE (Rare) and a Bounty Hunter (so many that you can't shake a stick at)
Also it's fun running around the GEO caves doing reconnaisance, slicing through terminals (No need to type in codes) and equip your blaster fist with your Center of Being Macro Running.
In a group, you have a lot of defenses and this gives you most flexibility.
For huge PVP battles, you can have your Launcher Pistol spamming Concussion Shot, and Panic Shot. You control the battlefield, and with Volley Fire you can direct the attacks in a certain direction. So with a group of 8 well-trained/well-disciplined group. Your group will only attack the volley fire target, as they now that you'll keep everyone mezzed in the area.
Think of a group of opponents in a small cluster (tends to happen inside bases), channeling force. Concussion shot with a launcher Pistol Freezes the group. Then your group comes in and picks of the volley fire target. Before Concussion shot wears off equip your rocket launcher, apply panic shot.If you're in a strategic location the prey lays idly for close to a minute. And a minute is long long long time in a huge PVP battle.
Key here is to wear regular armor (Yeah, Shock trooper armor is cool) but Shock Trooper Armor sends a big flag as a high priority target, as your a key component for destroying a base (BH/Commando/SL), and if you happen to have enough creds/faction to get Shock Trooper Armor, then you're inbig danger. Best thing to do is buy a good set of Chitin Armor. Chitin armor is perceived as noob armor. Throw up your Novice Marksman Tag, and you'll be under the radar. Remember to stay within your group. Don't spam retreat. You'll run out of action so fast that you're a dead squad leaderand a dead squad leader cannot lead his troops.
This is a mediocre damage dealer template but a 5 in Crowd Control. Crowd Control and Squad Leader makes it easy to pick off targets one on one. I say mediocre damage deal because you're damage shots are Quick Draw and Advanced Reckless Shot. You get a -40 defense for Advanced Reckless Shot but with Rally, that effect is nullified.

To get more damage, I agree couple it with Bounty Hunter, and throw in a the speed line in pistoleer 4-0-0-0, and with a pistol (Intimidatore/Totchee/Scatter/FWG, etc...) you're pistol speed would be fast. Why Pistoleer? Well you need the lowest SAC pistols in the game as Squad Leader actions uses up lots of action. Also pistoleer grants +10 general ranged speed mods at Pistoleer 3-0-0-0 and 4-0-0-0. Blob Candy and Pixie are your friend, as well as Crispics.

For decent damage, speed, and flexibility, I recommend. MSL/MSmuggler/Pistoleer 4-0-0-0. This is my current build template, and my totchee pistol as well as my intimidator hits for around 522/ 525Modified DPS. My E5 Carbine does around 493 Modified DPS. My only speed mods are Carbines I in Marksman and some corsec boots. This leaves you two skill points for Force Sensitive Skills, but that's another story.
You now have Improved Body Shot which is a good damage shot (not as good as Improved Leg Shot) and Quick Draw from marksman. Alternate between the two and you're like Speedy Gonzales spamming damage. Oh and get a 100% speed sliced intimidator. ![]()
You can also lead your troops in melee, if you're lacking tanks. Seems to me ranged is all the rage now POST-CU, although more TKA/Swordsman coming back. Hard to find a fencer though....

It also helps a lot to have a couple of pistoleers to have advanced stopping shot. This is good for melee crowd control, and within the recycle times, alternate stopping shots between pistoleers. This works well with Nightsisters.
--
For a purely melee crowd group (I usually fight with 3-4 TKA's and 1 MSwordsman). I play crowd control, while they tank. Try not to knock them down. Critters hate being knocked down and will aggro to you. This is a speedy group that can hit with Volley Fire, Knockdown, Armor Break--- Spam Damage. The damage will just roll in and critter is pushing up daisies.

Again, you have to be able to have a semblance of discipline within your group. An undisciplined group can get everyone killed in a hurry. Like aggroing the whole village of nightsisters.
In that case you type /sys Hold your Fire. Let the undisciplined guy get killed. Then come up to him, tell him that not following orders will get you killed. Get the doc to revive him, and there you go, you're up and running again.
--
It's all in how you run your group. I do wish that there's Group Ranged/Melee Speed Mods in Master Squad Leader box, and that our innate group abilities show up in CTRL-S
--
Anyways, I digress. To answer your question, yes you can have a purely support character, but it's very flexible, and dont' think of yourself as a walking BE Shirt.
To Recap.
a. MSL/MBH
b. MSL/MSmuggler/Pistoleer 4-0-0-0
c. MSL/MSmuggler/Commando 0-2-1-0
d. MSL/MPistoleer
I don't have much experience on the medic side so can't give advice there....

I tried that whole Master Squad Leader / Master Squad Leader thing and it just didn't work all that well for me.![]()
I tried it, and everytime I used /sys it went into an infinite loop spamming everyones screen until I disbanded the group.
Very nice info ICE.. my only problem is that i have 4 point tied up in FS... was a bad mistake since im not really trying for that... just though it would help to have some extra Melee defense ![]()
