Slightly off-topic, ever tried Doc / SL? I blew my token respect to trade Rifles for Doctor, to try something different for a little while. Haven't got the hang of it entirely yet, but man is it a whole different way of going into combat.

I considered CM, but the debuffs were not appealing option for my playstyle and area heals are normally not needed with my normal groups, while the doc buffs are highly appealing. The lack of ranged healing is a downer, but I'm getting used to it. All in all, its a transitional prof for me, trying something new for awhile to explore adifferent aspect of the game.

Hey Bio-

Most of this seems to be conjecture and supposition. I am a Master Ranger and dropped TKM for Master Squad Leader because I thought it was a good mix. As a Master Ranger, you are already a boon to those who wish to harvest since you give the group a bonus. As a Master Squad Leader I not only give a TN bonus to the group, but accuracy and defense mods as well. I chose to use my Skill points in the marksman Carbine tree and use the E5 as my main weapon. This combined with my E5 crafted by my guild's WS, lets me do some decent damage while fighting. When I group with non guildmates, I explain that I can give some bonuses if I am leader and usually get it. I have just recently made a macro that lets me fight now without having to remember to mash the right button for the bonuses.

As for whether or not you would be able to solo, well a Ranger can adapt and overcome those obstacles eh? I still do alright solo and don't plan on dropping either profession anytime soon. I may try to get a glowstick, but would still be a Ranger with a glowstick. Hopefully a personal view on your question helps you out some. It isn't pretty on paper, but I can assure you its still fun and effective enough that you won't be a "harvesting leech."
