Thread: Squad Leader Tactics List
Even if these kinds of threads are old hat, there is absolutely no reason to stop sharing tactics, expecially in an environment that is constantly changing.
For instance, I just instituted the nw "Group Tap" procedure for most lairs - instead of having one person tap the lair to instigate spawns, now that they have so many hit points about 7-8 people can get max XP off of a lair (and probably more, which makes everyone happy. So we tap it like we usually would, only now everyone does it
See? That's new! And something you can give your group that they will be terribly happy about.
TIp to those who like to hold group briefings:
Did you know that if you send an in-game e-mail to "group", it goes to every member of your current group? Write up a detailed briefing, and mail it to yourself. Then, when you've got your group ready, forward to "group" and you're set. Briefing in a can.
I had no idea.
I sure wish that worked for 'guild' too. Or does it?
Here is my strategy that I use... simple and effective (and it shows that SL is NOT a requirement).
This is originally posted on my guild MB:
I have been working on various "Grouping Strategies" and my newest one I started with on Friday seems to be working very well.
In this strategy, the Leader plays a VERY important role... A role I have decided to call The Caller
The Caller needs 2 major macros (anyone who hunted with me this weekend will recognize them)
note on macros: I am going to use /groupchat, but any Squad Leader should replace that with /sysgroup
Macro 1) /groupsay Standy to Assist %TT
Macro 2) /groupsay Assist %TT... Fire!
Now... here is how it works:
-----------------------
1) Before the first shot, The Caller picks a Main Assist using Macro 1
2) All groupmembers target the Main Assist, while the Main Assist goes and pulls a mob
3) The Caller waits for the little crossed swords icon to show up on the Main Assist's and hits Macro 2
4) All teammates hit /assist, and start pummeling the Mob.
5) After the first kill, if there are any Adds, The Caller picks another Main Assist and runs Macro 2
6) Rinse and repeat
-----------------------
A few added notes:
On Step 1: The Main Assist can continually be the same person, but doesn't always have to be. Higher lvl CH pets make good Main Assists.
On Step 2: Everyone should learn how to easily target group members. Hitting Ctrl+1 targets yourself. Hitting Ctrl+2 targets the first group member in your box (The Group Leader is always on top). I think that you can target group members 10-19 with Ctrl+Shift, but I am not sure... (personally, though, I have always been The Caller, and I just click on the group members box in my group pane)
On Step 3: FYI: the red crossed swords icon means that the group member is engaged in combat
On Step 4: A quick little note about /assist (very important): /assist keeps your group member targeted, thus doesn't allow you to use any specials... the secret to getting around this is to deselect the group member after you hit /assist. Doing this will automatically target the mob you attacked (and then you can use specials)
On Step 5: The Caller should normally pick the original Main Assist, but if anyone in particular needs relief, he should pick him instead.
Note: forgive the "obvious" stuff in there, but this was written for people who are new to MMORPGs... i just didn't feel like editing it

Awesome post Luzienne!
Anyone who has a problem reading (or re-reading) "obvious" stuff denies its importance and handicaps their leadership abilites. Not only is some stuff not obvious to some people, but material that seems common sense is usuallythe stuffthat needs to be pounded into everyone's skulls anyway.
I can't tell you how many times I heard the same thing time after time in my old Air Force briefings, but there is so much to remember on any given mission that the basics always need to mentioned. A good leader is going to make sure everyone is on the same page no matter how much everyone grumbles about it.
I go hunting with uber-d00dz and have to keep reminding them that not everyone is as awesome and by holding to the prescribed methods we will be able to get used to working together as a team and acclimate ourselves to the role that the Uber-d00d plays. By starting with the basics we can develop a framework with which to expand our techniques.
BTW if your 'tactic' is "Compain as loudly as you can to the Devs" Please put that in a different thread. I kind of like this one.....I've already learned a few things I didn't know.

Ah, never thought of that! I havejust been /assisting, then mousing over and clicking the orange Attack box that appears on the target (very tedious in traffic). What is the best way to "deselect" group member while allowing focus to remain on enemy? Left/right click in blank space, hit esc key1,2,5 (3 sir)3 times?
Also the mailto: group is great info, didn't know that one either.
Here's myextremely smallcontribution, it's not much but it's all I got atm....
using /point while targeting an enemy can cause them to aggro you. Could be useful in a situation you want to pull an enemy but not do damage (yeah I know highly unlikely). What I'd like to find out is if /point causes social mobs to bring a friend or come alone, I imagine they'd still baf, but maybe. Anyway, wonder if any other seemingly innocent /emotes can cause reactions from npc mobs?

Just a quick question..
I am having trouble deciding if i should take the range defense line or the melee defense line.
It seems to me that it would depend onwhat you fight more of and if you use armor. If you fight a lot of animals, don't wear much armor, and use tanks, then I suppose you would want melee. If you PvP a lot, or fight a lot of pistol and rifle waving yahoos, go for the ranged defense.

Are you sure you are not seeing the effects of the system assuming /point means /pointBlankAttack1? (When what you probably want is /pointAt) This happened to me and a friend a couple of weeks ago. He was trying to point out a really nasty mob that we should avoid.
Friend shoots mob, says "hey look at that guy!"
Deebo says, "RUN!"
Deebo and friend die anyways.
Deebo says in groupchat, "/pointAT /POINT**AT**!!"
I was a deadly and quite funny mistake. hehe

I'll have to try /pointat. I always use /accuse. I never got /point to work for anything.
My pet attack macro: DESTROY!!!!; /accuse
Occamz says: "DESTROY!!!" you point accusingly at_______.
It's funny when I do it on a lair then it says I point accusingly at everyone around me. hehe.
OCCAMZ
I agree with OCCAMZ. Ranged for PvP, Melee for PvE.
Also, I find using /retreat combined with + group terrain to be effective in getting diverse groups to cover large distances quicker. Also, just the other night we were crusing Dathomir and the spawns were evil, Nightsisters were popping directly on top of us. Hitting /retreat quickly gave us breathing room to get clear, regroup, and then attack them on our terms before they could ambush us. I can see using retreat a ton more than boost morale, despite the heavy heavy costs (3/4 action AND mind bars!)

Ahhhhhh, hehehe, doh! You are probably right! I first noticed it when goofing around with emotes near kimogilla spawn and I don't believe I had a ranged weap equiped. And here I was thinking kimos just don't like being pointed at! lmao!
Good /point,
