Well, that's definately part of it but mostly it's that our "boosts" don't do anything useful. Terrain Negotiation & Burst Run have been useless since mounts, even moreso since vehicles came out. The Melee & Ranged defense are nice, but you can't tell if they're working or not since the numbers never appear anywhere. *I* know they work, because I'm only a novice carbineer and when my ranged defense goes from +8 to +38, it's easy to tell. Get one of the master templates out and the difference between +50 and +80 is almost unnoticable since their target is dead before they get enough shots off.

Back in response to Thulium's post:
I think that Squad Leader stands out as a hybrid profession with combat prerequisites that does not advance combat skills at an elite level, for the SL anyway. Or did you just mean for the group? Bonuses to damage, speed, defense, those are all nice. The way it should be would make a group with an SL superior to a group without. But I wouldn't think SL should have any combat skills to help the SL, that's what the other 115 skill points are for. The support tree prerequisite is more of the experience of battle before leading people into it. I would rather keep the survival tree prerequisite and find something similar to that with SL.
If you didn't mean anything I thought you did then ok, my bad.

I don't believe the squad leader should get skills only as a support specialist. A squad leader also leads which often requires him to take action himself. I don't believe it is out of line to give a squad leader his own specialized combat abilities.

I'm not totaly for giving SL's thier own Special combat skills, but I do like the idea of a few self combat/defense skill mods.
As simple as adding in a general ranged aiming, a + to all ranged weapon speeds/accuracy/accuracy while moving (pistol, carbine, rifle), and + to melee/ranged defense. Nothing too big and added in towards the top to prevent dabblers. And I know we are supposed to recieve the same bonuses as the rest of the group.... but a few extra skill mods here and there will not do too much damage.
An extra skill mod for alertness would work to... Its a skill that would benefit us.
