Thread: Suggestion to perhaps change called shot

Well since called shot seems to be still a little over powered I think a good suggestion would be to just modify the skill completely. We already have paint target which is like the old volleyfire.


What you could do is change it to:


Create a cone effect that reduces the attack speed of those effected in the area for a small amount of time.


Change the skill completely name and all and have it so it gets rid snare and root effects, has a medium cool down on it.


What do you think of this instead? I don't care for called shot personally I think its either going to end up overpowered or just a useless ability.

Sylow has a suggestion here for an alternative to nerfing it. Its fairly coding intensive for SOE's Devs, and will require a reduction in the Called Shot damage bonus and longer cool-down timer I think, but its a nice idea.


Another idea would just be scrap Called Shot and give us a weapon special.

Old SL? So, the fact that I've been MSL for about 15 months now and been an active participant of this forum for that duration doesn't qualify? And where did I say nerf me, huh? We are trying to find a balanced solution to this before various non-SL voices get our profession nerfed into worthlessness, and your trolling is getting very annoying. Called Shot has already been nerfed from a 155% to 110% bonus before it even went live, approaching worthless at that percentage for acharacter who doesn't have sniper shot or similar attack like myself. Oh, my alt is a SW... my main is the MSL / Jedi with no Vis, any other questions?

I am MSL first and foremost, sir. I could careless about Jedi BH bull**edit**, as I've never been hunted and never will.In another thread of yours, I had stated the same thing, that we SLs want to have our profession be usable and fun, not nerfed... and you quoted and agreed with me. Strange how much of a two-faced individual you are.

I'd love to see Called Shot go back to 155%, because then it would be useful again, but as per the screaming outcry by Jedi, I'm afraid we'll never see that. I hope and plan to have a well discussed and well thought out alternative to the severe nerfing that is being called for by other professions. If you truly wish to play a Squad Leader, and are not here just as a FOTM to burn out profession like locusts, then why don't you help us work out something before the nerfing begins? Or are you just here to use our profession until it gets nerfed, and then dump it?

Your not makin many points on these forums.


Called Shot does not only effect Jedi, but all PvP combat, how would you like running into a fight, get painted and die without a chance to defend yourself?

Ok, I've been bouncing this idea off a few other MSLs, and I know at least Frag99 will flame me for this, but I consider this a brainstorming thread and the point of brainstorming is to toss any idea (no matter how lame) and discuss it's merits and flaws, and then either elimate it or build on it, so here goes.


We've already got Paint Target, giving use +15% damage at Master against one target, why do we have 2nd ability that is also damage increaser? Why not an Accuraccy increaser instead? Get rid of the damage bonus of Called Shot, and make it a short term single target accuracy buff (Devs will code it as a short term Defense debuff). Say at Novice it gives +200 Accuracy and at Master it gives +500 Accuracy, and instead of lasting only 1 shot it lasts a few seconds (5? 10?).


Reasoning: Tanks have Center of Being, Duelist Stance, and Force Aura to buff their defense. Offensively, the only skill to counter those 3 abilities is Aim from Rifleman.


Thoughts? Comments? Complaints? Flames?

Actually... sounds pretty good. It wouldn't be helpful for a single person any more, but for a group of people attacking, it could be nice... Despite it would be bound to only be something like 5% of improvement. No accuracy buff/debuff moves numbers much more than that.


If it should be more effective than that, i wonder if an armour debuff also could make sense?

A counter to the defensive abilities sounds pretty solid to me, it would also still justify using both specials AND provide differentation between the two abilities.

This made me laugh....and laugh hard.


Because, frag99...Loki is OBVIOUSLY a jedi/bh alt forum poster with his 3k+ posts and "pilot" forum rank (what's that, 1 1/2 years minimum? 2 yrs?) /sarcasm off.


FYI frag, if you look around and had been here for longer than a week or two you would have noticed that a number of the squad leaders posting to get the profession "nerfed" are really trying to do quite the opposite. The position the community has taken is one that careful tweaking and changing now (such as a reduction in abilities such as called shot which have serious problems associated with their use, regardless of intent) can prevent much harsher and more disabliling changes later. Moderate and reasonable changes now in place of sudden and rash decisions later which could seriously hurt our profession's ability to function effectively.


As to Mailek...I can speak personally that he is not a jedi. quite to the contrary he was the driving force behind my guild's pvp division for 6+ months and has never (as far as i can remember) dropped the Squad Leader profession.



BOTH of these people are much more dedicated and well-aquaintedto their profession than you obviously are (you openly admit that you only recently became a SL, as well as an obvious inexperience with the history of profession changes in SWG based on your comments). If you even have a shread of reason about you, you might be able to see the problems with doubling the bonus on called shot.

It would help alot of some of these folks with one foot in our door would step all the way in and read up a little, maybe a few pages so that alot of this mess can be avoided. That is if these issues are realy that important to them as they are to us. I've seen numerous posts by loki concerning the revamp and more, and hes done actual testing and has given ideas on how to balance things before they become a problem. I've seen none of these people comming in here all of the sudden back when alot of attention was realy needed.


Please read up a little first, do some testing on your own, and seriously try to be more of a help then a problem if you all are going to try to effect the SL profession.
