Thread: Well, I suppose I feel the need to say something ...

For starters, this message is for Squad Leaders ... and our chosen friends and allies.

So I'm sitting here, watching this download on the launchpad that seems practically bigger than the entire CU was, and admittedly I am nervous.

But nervous isn't quite the word; more like terrified.

For better or for worse, this is the day that has been long coming for over two years. In the past month or two, it is startling to see how much has changed on these forums, from the occasional moping and bitterness of a scorned profession to the highs and lows of deliberating our pending publish update.

It is not perfect, but then nothing ever is. We have fought several battles, some that have been won and some that have been lost. Obviously, for me, the greatest sense of pride and victory stems from the implementation of Leadership in the profession. To this day, I am still floored with near-disbelief at the thought that it is actually in the game now. I will probably be in denial for a long time to come.

I do not feel that I am responsible for it, though. It was the overwhelming unity of the profession rallying behind the cause in a voice morefocusedthan I have ever seen before in this game that got the attention necessary to push the implementation. I firmly believe that it is not a personal victory, but one that all of us share.

Still ticking away on the counter. About fifteen minutes to go. I don't know about all of you, but there are butterflies in my stomach.

As for the shortcomings, there are a few. We still need to press the issue of Leadership being applied to Group Buffs' potency through the use of some mechanic. We still need to focus upon gathering information regarding the effectiveness of our abilities in PVP, to ensure that problems are foreseen and possibly preempted with the Devs before the great and overkilling nerf bat of terror gets swung. We need to address the issue of preserving the purity of our Profession, and denying its benefits to those who would seek to abuse something that we have come to love.

I'm confident that we can reach these goals.

In the past few weeks, I've posted more than ever before in the year or so that I've actually bothered with the message boards. Many of you have identified the fact that I don't post that often, but I assure you that I have always been there ... watching. I would like to thank the Developers and SOE staff who have assisted us in this endeavor. Tiggs, Keldarin, and the rest of you who worked on the publish revamp or helped ease the communication ... thank you. I alsowant to thank people like Sushi, Scout, Sylow, Loki ... all of you who have taken the initiative of leading this profession out of the dark cave of impotence and into a publish that has the previous "alpha classes" quaking in their boots. It is our entitlement. It was earned.

Only a few minutes left, so I guess I'll wrap this up now. The culmination of over two years of work begins today in a new era for Squad Leaders. Enjoy the day, and reap the rewards of the persistence of so many who never gave up hope despite very desperate odds.

Those of you who've read this far ... those of you who reminisce with me, these things ... all of you know who you are.

We have earned this.

I haven't posted as much lately due to the annoying Jedi and BH's that have thought that whining here was the best thing to do, but Obsidian, very well written and I know you're not the only one who is nervous about it. I too am. I have been playing since August of '04 and this is what I've been waiting for the entire time. The worst thing is, I'm at work ALL DAY.

I would've been more active during the testing on TC, but a number of things made me not do it. I would've and have enjoyed playing with the friends I have made here, but the crying on the boards and joining a guild that I was in some time ago and their need for me to help since I AM a Squad Leader prevented going to TC. Just going to TC was a bit painful because of the squabbling, I wanted to be left in my own little world, playing with friends that would listen to me and appreciate that I was a Master Squad Leader.

Leadership, I knew it was broken I believe when I made Talley, but I also knew that if they ever did implement it, I would have it and my gut instinct paid off. I once heard someone say something to the effect of play with stuff that works, don't play with stuff that doesn't. Of course by the time that I read that I believe I was already MSL, while this overall is true, there is always a chance that if you play with something that even doesn't work, that it can be fixed. In these last few minutes, I have discovered a lot of things about my future as Talley. I know that I will eventually go to Jedi, not because I want to be uber, but because I don't want to leave the friends I have on Kettemoor. I can't afford another account at the present time, this is the only way I can get a second toon, also, I want to play Imperial. I enjoy Rebel, but I think I can enjoy Imperial just as much, if not slightly more.

I know after all my bitching about Jedi/BH, that some of you may think I'm being a hypocrit, well, that's where these next words come in and these are for you.

(Due to me being at work, this will be updated, so keep checking in)

Talley has always been a person (so to speak) that has and will continue to sacrifice himself for the group. This is the reson I have changed my template to include some BH. It is the way that I have played him even before becoming Force Sensitive, for Talley, ther is an "I" in team and not the way the true meaning is. His way, my way, is "If I don't get out, you all will. I will be more happy to take the beating if it means the rest of you survive." Talley is a guardian, a knight and a defender. In an fantasy rpg he would be a knight or a paladin, not because of the group bonuses, but because of his beliefs, though he has not been chivalrous in all things. The badges we gain in game are all badges of honor and part of his resume as an SL. It to a certain extent is sad that he personifies Jedi, but it is also a natural evolution of the character. Now, when exactly I decide to go and do Jedi, I do not know. I've been doing quests which garnish very little xp. I just can't turn my brain off to the monotony of grinding, which is why he's got Combat Prowess 1001 and novice in the rest except for Crafting. I have been having fun strategizing with my friends I have made doing quests with my guild and by myself. Even post-cu I have done a lot of hard quests by myself. Does Talley fit as a Jedi? I think so.

Ah well, at least it'll give me a reason to go see my mom before she leaves the country. I wish I could go with her, but money and all is not someone I know personally.

As for my post, done.

Money? Hmm, i know the word, i heard it happens to other people all the time, but i am still trying to figure out what it exactly is...

Anyways, hope nobody in the company noticed... my noon-break today was 15 minutes too long, used it to rush home, boot my machine and start the download. Unless the download was interrupted, i am ready to go when i get home.

I do hope you actually ate something, too, though?
