it may not be your server, but i encourage you to stop by and make the argument for SL's to the general populace of Bloodfin. i can guarantee that your sever feels the same way about us.

What would you have us say in the thread? That we are not broken? That everything is fine? That we are a huge asset to the groups? Sure we have advantages that we add to a group, but in many cases..they pail compared to having another fully templated player in the spot.

Our specials are slow on timers, our specials are weak, our innate mods are weak. Only a few things stand out and allow us to be what we should be, and those just dont make up for the efficiancy that a group with no SL using assist and pass through healing damage can do in PVP or on a raid.

SL needs to be fixed so that they can do their job in the fashion that a commander would do. Many SLs have made recommendations, those would be a good start in the right direction. But don't get mad if people feel SLs are not a big contribution in a group right now. Sadly, they are not that far off the mark.

There is food that a player can eat that allows for almost constant burst run.....beats SL skills.

There is food that adds to defenses.....beats the 30 melee/ranged defense SL skills add.

There is food that bumps accuracy for longer than a few seconds.

There are PUs that increase accuracy or speed on a weapon as well.

SLs are easily replaced with substiutes. That is what needs to change.

A permanent fast pace that is 50% of burst run needs to be placed in while grouped.

innate defense needs to be higher....like +150 or even 200

group accuracy needs to be innate with bonuses from specials

group speed needs to be innate with bonuses from specials

different profession in a group with a SL could have combos that they do together under SL instruction that results in extra damage etc.

Those would be a good start, but would still not get even close to fixing it all I think.

Respectfully, Kharast, I think it's the other way around. Don't you think that the reasonsome players see no value because the developers haven't gotten around to making enough of a role for us?

There are still things for me to do while I wait for a revamp, and I understand thatwork must be prioritized. But I do think that once there is more that we can add to a group, you'll see a different perspective from other players. Tweaking those numbers, while simple to say (andseemgly simple to do) might cause unintended consequences that the development team just isn't ready to tangle with at this point. I'd be wiling to be this is why SL hasn't been beefed up more just yet.

I will say this though, lots of cool loot drops have been turning up for me on Kashyyyk

no, i dont think so.

we arent the devs. we dont know what projects they're involved on and what is coming in future publishes. for all we know, Squad Leader is slated for some major attention w/ publish 21. but could just as easily be publish 41.

and i dont think other players say to themselves "well, the devs dont care about SL, i dont either". they think to themselves "how can i defeat these picket missions the fastest? how can i beat necrosis the easiest? what will make DWB a quicker run?"players are more narrow minded than that; they're concerned about their play time and their game experience. the answer they give themselves is more jedi. we know they can benefit from our services, but the players dont see it. we know we bring something to the table NOW, not in a dozen hotfixes from now!

no, i dont think the problem is the devs dont pay attention to us. i think the problem is that the players dont pay attention to us. if we could get the players to say "hey, wow, SL is pretty cool. its too bad the numbers you give are too low in the CU" then we can add their voices to our voices when asking the devs to pay attention. the only way to do that is to go out and show the players we have a place in their grind group; show them we have something to contribute now.

i undertand the points you both have given. but we've gone this long without anything from the devs. and that's because we just sit around saying "woah is us!" while the others say "Squad Leader? Pfft....go back to Ft Tusken, n00b". that tactic hasnt worked before, why would it change to work now? yes, the others recognize we need some help from the devs, but ultimately they couldnt care less if we ever get it because they see no benefit from ever having a Squad Leader around.

make them care if we get attention from the devs is what im championing.

They at least know the benefit of having a NovSL around for base busting.

Maybe I missreaad your last post, but it gives me the impression that you seem to think we SLs are okay, and just need some minor tweaking in numbers etc. I must disagree. SL is as out of whack as smuggler ever was. The problem is that everyone knows what a smuggler is. They are drawn to them by the slicing, buying of faction, the specials they have.....yet what do we have? Do we have the name appeal of a Bounty Hunter? The ability to add to a group like a Combat Medic? Abilities beyond the fight like a Smuggler? Nope. We are a hybrid profession, yet we are not treated as such. Why? Because SL didn't get attention from the devs. Why? Because as it was said before of the devs at fan fest...they don't know what to do with us.

The one profesison that "should" be the most desired in a group is left competing for leftover slots.

Those are the two most saddest statements, and we hear them way too often here.

We need to hit the Publish Note Threads and Discussion Threads. If there is a publish without Squad Leader attention, raise some noise. Post until you are blue in the fingers. We have alot of good ideas on this board and a good community, treat the Dev's "don't know what to do with us" as an open slate to mold our profession.

We are usefull, and I'd take a Squad leader, or combat medic/doctor, or carbineer, or even a pikeman over jedi or rifleman any day, since I'm not a mindless spammer and I know how to put people to use. The harsh thing about this debate is, do we stand tall and emphisise our usefullness and abilities, or do we adapt to what a couple other professions utilise and try to be the 'squeeky weel' so that we might get some attention? Myself I'd rather let everyone els throw a fit and keep the attention off of us, or in short, I just want them to leave us alone.

If what happend to creature handlers is any indication of how they 'help' a profession or fix it, then I'd rather stay the way we are now.

We aren't saying it is totally useless. It has many issues though, and falls far short on the level of what it should be. If that is okay with you, then well...not everyone shoots for high goals. The simple fact that you would dismiss a rifleman is more than enough for me to know you don't have all your eggs in the basket.

I do agree with you about the "help" comment though...but can they really make SL any worse? Dare I even ask?!

If the 7 in your group are busy shooting the jedi next to him....he probably doesn't care...assuming he even knows what that red ball is...

Guys i just recently hit master squad leader and master pistoleer. along with this i got ranged healing in combat medic too. this combo is awesome. I can save my teams ass with the buffs and volley fire. and i can heal them all at the same time. This combo has made me extremely popular on Dantooine. Someone out there use this technique. I see no problems with our profession except that we need better pistols! I love being a squad leader and i wouldnt have it any other way.

what would i have you say? are you serious? did you even read the same thread i did?

im joking, but at the same time, im not joking.

SL is the laughing stock of the CU to the rest of the games players. not to insult rangers...but some of the comments on that thread put us below the usefullness of a ranger. and that prof wasnt even part of the CU revamp!!

yes, some of our specials were made obsolete by the CU. well, the numbers behind them, not the specials themselves. we are NOT broken. we just need some tweaks to the numbers to overcome the obstacles facing us currently. unfortunately, the playerbase sees us as a broken and useless profession. go to that thread and convince them otherwise. heck, even create a thread on your server's forum because if Bloodfin feels this way then surely Chilastra, Sunrunner, Wanderhome and the others do as well.

if the players dont see a use for us then the devs wont spend the time and effort to improve the profession. we are not the non-factor that 90% of them think we are.

go and tell/show them that.

I would rather the devs see everyone saying we have issues and are broken. After all, what profesison are they more likely to fix? The one that all the members say is working with only a few problems and no one else comments on, or the one that everyone openly acknowledges is broken?

No, I want 90% of the players saying stuff like that on the forums. Maybe the Devs will finally get a clue. There was little reason to group before, and so SL wasn't an issue, but now...now we must group...this is the time that the SL is needed, but the Devs chose not to address it.

We need more people saying we have problems, and that we need fixes...only then will the devs realize that they forgot a proession when they did the CURB and that no shiney guns are going to sway our resolve in a fix.

Till then, we must lead our troops with the skills we are given, and just try to keep them alive till we get better tools.
