Thread: Dual weapons.

Well since they have finshed the animations on dual weilding, why dont they let Squad Leader dual weild? After all the profs is lacking content. More players would play SL if we could dual weild the squad leader pistols. We are after all commanders, and whats a commander without his 2 trusty side arms? I know SL isnt a fighting solo class, but still, if any class should get it SL deserves it.

An honest answere?

No, I dont want it. We just will draw attraction from those player who will dabble to dual wield and not lead ppl.
We will be FOTM, then everybody starts screaming nerf and then we ll get nerfed and our profession will be left shattered and broken, currently we're just ignored, our working specials are not known enough or not visible enough to the playerbase to get the recognition we should deserve.

Yes we do need attention but not that kind of attention.

Give it to the pistoleer or smugglers, it fits their style and profession.

I want

  • visible passive buff icons

  • larger groups

  • meta groups

  • SL XP, earned while grouped

  • a detailed overhead map

  • WP assignment for my group mates

  • a valuable formup and boostmorale

There are some more things i'd add do Scout's list, but i mentioned them often enough, don't want to spam them in here, too.

Any while the argumentation of FOTM and nerv and even broken also is true, i stand against the idea for a completely different reason:

We are military.
We are professionals.
We use weapons in a proficient and effective way.

Dual wielding has no place in any military instructions, duel wield can be found in with slum gangsters whoknow as much ofproper use of weapons asof proper spelling. I wish those who want to play two-gun gangster rapper aliens (*1)a lot of fun but hope that the SL can keep the reputation (and some day, may the fixes come, acquire the performance) of a professional, trained soldier.

*1: Hey! Basically that's a completely new concept... make the elite "gangster rapper" profession. The quest to unlock it is to keep up a high percentage of "dood! r0xorz" language for all the time, when the game detects a sufficient rate of such language, you automatically get all skills removed and the complete "ganster rapper" profession (250 skillpoints cost) assigned. Gives you some modifiers, the "ghetto speech" ability, means that anything you type will automatically conversed to such stuff, duEl wield ability and other "cool" features like that. *2

*2: An improved and utterly mighty ability should be the always active "cool shroud". With this, anybody who doesn't have the profession, will not be able to see or hear you or notice you in any other way. To make the game even better, all the boring guys who don't have the profession will be completely blocked out from the superior perception of the "gangster rapper", too...

I always figured that pistoleers deserved dual wielding, cause, well, they are the pistol wielding profession. I dont't like it for SL the same reason I don't like the entire template requiring pistol XP, it kind of pushes a player in the direction of using pistols. The carbineers, rifleman, anbd melee SLs get the shaft with this.

While the idea of dual-weilding Intimidators appeals to me, if they add dual-pistols, I would expect it to be required topick-up master pistoleer. Putting it as an MSL ability is pushing pistols way to much for on ourprof.

Maybe we carbineers could dual weild E5s?!

but yeah, duals should be pistoleer and fencer. We dont want them to be encouraged in leaving our profession as pistol XP anyway. There are plenty of things that can be done to set us apart from the other profssisons...

/daydream

Getting a WP from forward intel and "deploying" our squad from a space terminal (grouping works like when we load into MP ships for space) and we all load at the WP.

Being able to see enemy bases on out Ctrl-V map (wont identify what type, just location)

MP vehicles that a MSL is driver of takes on 5000 armor and X10 stats to condition. Wouldn't be a tank, but an effective APC when moving troops into battle.

2 words "Artillary Strike"

1 word "Bunkers" (shoot, would give architects the ability to buy schematics from the recruiter like faction armor now)

Not that any of it would ever happen, but would be a blast for sure!

i agree.

however, if any SL's-to-be come by and read this thread, you dont need to take pistoleer to become a squad leader. yes, you need pistol xp, but that doesnt mean you need to grind pistoleer first, or even at the same time. here's how a new player can become a SL without ever moving up the pistol tree of marskman

1) get some grenades.

2) join a grind group

3) throw ONE grenade at the mob that's been pulled and dont do ANYTHING else. when the mob dies you'll get full combat xp

4) harvest organics from the mob

5) repeat above steps until Ranged Support 4, Survival 4, and Novice SL are filled

6) get the Red Hydra pistol (nov SL certed) or any other generic pistol

7) repeat step 2

8) repeat step 3 shooting once with the pistol instead of using the grenade

9) repeat steps 3, 7 & 8 until SL is mastered

yes, this is much longer than the grind was pre-CU when we got xp for leading the group, but this will work. and you DONT have to train any other pistol skills first!

That easy pistol xp thing he said works fine. Oh and the only reason I think SL should get the dual weild (carbs, swords, pistols) is they are a more heroic/leader figure on the battlefeild (or atleast thats how i see them) and the dual weild (even just for looks) would give a more star warsly feel to it. Actually Id prefer just for looks, just to keep SL from going solo class.

I am with the agreement of a lot of the others. I don't want to see it for our profession. One, it would force us to use pistols. Two, it does fit more with Smugglers and that sort. Three, I use a carbine, try dual-weilding rifles. Just doesn't work. Though, yes, dual-weilding weapons would be cool, for SLs it just doesn't fit, we're not cowboys in a shoot out. We're professional soldiers.

Good points Kharast. I have seen a couple posts by people on that issue, and it seems many don't realize that. They will get XP as fast that was as tehy would being a Master Pistoleer if they work it right.

[...]the dual weild (even just for looks) would give a more star warsly feel to it.

Ah, yes... now i remember, all the great scenes..

When Leia fired a volley of blaster bolts on the stormtrooper boarding party before she was stunned in ANH.

When Han Solo drew his two pistols and then in wild kung-fu style killed his way through rows of stormtroopers on the Death Star in ANH.

When Luke wielded his two lightsabers for the standoff against Darth Vader in ESB.

When Lando blasted Jabbas Thugs to hell with his two pistols in RotJ.

When Leia used her two stolen scout blasters to teach the scout troopers on Endor a lesson in RotJ.

Aye... i now manage, to remember, yes... duael wield is totally starwarsy.

And without sarcasm: I am sorry, dual wield fits fine into any Hongkong movie, the Matrix and some other stuff in similar style. In Starwars, dual wielding is (usually) not what you see around, and i really don't miss it. I guess there's too much request for it within the "cool dudes" playerbase to completely ignore it, but please, just give it to those people and let the "professional" classes continue fighting in a decent way.
