I wouldn't throw in the towel just yet. One of the cornerstones of leadership is patience.

I alreay quit SL, not forever, but to experience the rest of this limited game before they add some length to our already shortened rope.

That is, IF they do...

No intention on throwing in the towel, more of just stating the obvious.

Nah, the quiet doormats are Carbineers and Pikemen. We at least have SOMETHINGS that work.

As both an Ex-Master Squad Leader and an Ex-Master Carbineer, I can tell you I was much more useful to the group in terms of skills as a Carbineer.

Im currently a pikeman and a carbineer/Squad leader onTC. I have tested out the new changes to both combat professions. The new range mods on the polearms are great and the most recent carbine changes are much much better. We now have a dizzy which combined with our KD and posture change are great in PvP.

There are no broken professions, they just some problems.

Really, think about it though... they HAVE to do a revamp for SL. It needs time and dedication, not a half assed attempt just to appease us. The best thing you can do is try to brainstorm ideas and desires you have for development. Anything we tell the devs is going to get this profession where we want it. Im sure they are haveing just as much trouble as we are defining how a SL should work.

Perhaps we're not the endall for group combat, but I still don't see us as all that useless. The abilities we have aren't flashy or obvious, but they fill in the gaps. As a Carbineer, I have about 15 ranged defense at Master? Stack that with what I get from Squad Leader and itsup around 40 or 45? Thats a substantial edge. The 25 melee defense is an edge I wouldn't have at all otherwise, even though its maybe one attack in ten or 15 that gets stopped, its still giving me something.

Volley Fire may be borked, but Steady Aim works, and with a few judiciously selected food buffs, the cost of keeping our squads accurate isn't that bad anymore. Form Up is about the most useful command in our arsenal with others like Rally, Retreat and others having applications for Squad Leaders that know how to use them.

This isn't a spam and jam class that some leet kiddie twitch artist can be any damned good at, but being an experienced Squaddie, you know this.

oh, I completely agree. I actually have a few posts about all of our skills and how to use them effectively. I loved my time a Squad Leader, and miss it quite often;my point was, Carbineer has a lot of good specials with stat effects and cone shots, that are fairly useful in all situations. Each and every skill in SL has uses, but I found myself focusing on fighting specials more than SL specials...they are only useful in specific situations.

And most of the skills that I (not my character) learned from being a SL have carried over, and more often than not I have a pretty effective squad.

At this point in the game, SL is probably the class that relies heaviest on actual personal skill, not some SOE assigned bonus.

I recently came to Master Squad Leader from Master Commando, both these classes are in need of fixing, I've felt a LOT more useful to my guild as a Squad Leader than Commando simply because Commando's can't fight as effectively anymore. At least as a Squad Leader I can save my buddies from that annoying TKM spamming kd/dizzy, or help my group chase down retreating imps.

It's gonna be hard to decide what to do if they ever get around to fixing both these professions, cause I loved Commando so much that I still want to go back.
