Thread: A Problem with this Game... No Overbearing Empire...

I just had a thought. The one thing that would breathe life into this game would be an oppressive Empire. This was tried in the Imperial Crackdown, but resulted in being the Imperial Letdown instead.

My solution? The Imperial Smackdown!!!

Put garrisons of Stormtroopers and law enforcement troops in every city. Conduct regular scans of players (to sever capacity). Bring the strong arm of the law to people who try to undermine the Empire and local law enforcement, and people will love it.

The problem with this game is that it is too soft. We have pink frilly-dillies, holoemotes, dancers, musicians, and hotpants. What we need areplayers instantlyexecuted for carryingillegal spices and sliced weapons. Ah hell, let the players be able to put up a fight.

We want illegal acts and armed citizens CRUSHED!!!!

I hereby recommend that all cities be patrolled exactly like Kaadara, Naboo. That city is a nightmare to walk through. I literally have to cling walls in order to keep distance between myself and the Stormtroopers there. Get rid of the Imperial officer pass, and make scans so annoying that carrying sliced gear won't be the rule, it will be the exception.

It is something called "presence", and something this game doesn't have alot of. Every Star Wars movie, book, or game has had this. JTL does have it to some extent, the excitement at least. I want the experience of being an ordinary citizen living during an oppressive rulership. I want war!!! (in a video game at least)

If only towns were randomly hit by shock troops that attacked people at will. If only we would know what it is like to beharrassed and extorted by Imperial figures, beaten out of our beds at night and questioned. This game needs to be like living in Iraq at the present time if you are overt or carrying spice/slice.

SWG needs more authorities who shoot first then ask questions later, and I think our major cities are far far far (far) too tame.

Bring back the NOVA troopers, that was some excitement! I loved having overt Imperials try to kite me into these powerful brutes of the Empire. Areas of cities were REALLY dangerous if you chose to be a combatant in them. There needs to be Rebel equivalents of these in cities friendly to the Rebellion as well.

Cities will be a place for people not wishing to fight or break the law. They will be a place to be STRONGLY avoided by rogues, criminals, and militants (i.e. people overt or carrying spice or sliced gear), and the only one of these players with the skills to comfortably enter them will be the smugglers, PERIOD.

Bring on the beef Empire, I dare you!

Great ideas, but... I dunno about anyone else, I get searched by stormtroopers EVERYWHERE I GO. Every time I'm in Bestine, Kaadara, the normal stormie places, plus ifI pass a random squadron of them out in the middle of nowhere, I get flipped off my bike and searched. My two crafters usually pass the scans, but both have been killed (um.. sliced weapons on a crafter? Not mine.) My combat char is a Rebel Lt. Colonel... she now gets overtified no matter what. It's getting annoying I started taking screenies of every time I get searched... I have like 10 of them now from just the past 4 days.

Unless you pass through Kaadara, Shibi80, I think that getting scanned is a rarity. One time I had to shuttle out of Kaadara to get to some other place on Naboo. I was literally trapped in that town for 10-15 minutes as I got scanned and attacked over and over again. Then again, I was carrying a buttload of sliced gear.

LOL, sorry to hear you have such a hard time. I do think that if you aren't carrying sliced weapons or aren't aligned with the rebellion, then you shouldn't be attacked.

Hehe, yeah, it used to be a rarity for me too. For some reason recently it's been ALL the TIME. Dunno. But that's what I'm doin on the smuggler boards anyway, I figure either I just become a smuggler (aren't you guys supposed to be able to get past scans easier? Thought I heard that), I've always wanted to try smuggler anyway, or drop all my rank. And I worked hard for that rank, I'd rather keep it.

Shibi, your comments have to bea first for the smuggler forum. I have never read a post where someone considered becoming a smuggler to just to evade scans.

I wish statements like yours weren't rare. Everyone who wants to beat scans should consider picking up smuggler, that's what they do.

If the average player had such problems, they would either stop carrying illegal stuff or becoming or hiring a smuggler to help them.

If a group could group with a smuggler, enter a city that is heavily patrolled, and enjoy immunitythrough the smuggler, all of our dreams would be realized.

I can't tell what exactly you're saying, Ternque. I take it that what I've heard is wrong then I swear I read somewhere that smugglers were supposed to have a better chance of being found "clean" by stormies, even though they're themost likely to be full of spice, supplies, sliced weapons, etc. Part of the Underworld skill... apparently not. I know I read (and/or misunderstood) that back when this Imperial Crackdown thing first started. Well, I might still try smuggler anyway. Like I said, always wanted totry it.Andif it is true, in some small way even, that there's a better chance of evading scanswith a smuggler around, I'll never find one to babysit me around the galaxy.

You are correct Shibi, smugglers do get a bonus to evading scans. The whole point of this thread was to point out that scans need to occur much more often so that the potential that smugglers have to evade scans is fully realized to the SWG population.

The point I made to you in the last post was that scans don't occur frequently enough to motivate people to either become a smuggler themselves or hire one to do it for them. You are the only person I have ever seen that has wanted to become a smuggler to evade scans, which should be the main reason that one would want to be picking up smuggler. That is what smuggling is.

People don't care about getting scanned. It is annoying the rare times it does happen. Why would they want to become a smuggler or even hire one if there is no motivation to do so? That is why I call you a rarity. For the majority, carrying an inventory full of drug crates and illegaly modified weapons is normal.

I have never seen anyone want to pick up smuggler based ona strong motivation to evade scans, never.

If you're grouped with a Smuggler, and stay close to them, you get thier evasion bonus. Its a fairly short distance, so you can't use it from across a planet or on a seperate planet entirely. But, the fact that when an NPC runs up to a player, if that player is Imperial, or if that player has an Imperial friend, it can still be circumvented.

Ah, ok I see what you're saying.I'm glad I wasn't totally wrong about the scans. I do indeed have a very very strong motivation to evade scans. I'm not so into pvp that I want to besuddenly overtwhile I am standing unbuffed 300m outside of Bestine. I really can't believe I'm the ONLY one with this issue though. Seriously...

Unfortunately for me, the people I regularly hang around are all BHs, not smugglers. Believe me, if I could find a smuggler to hire (and I mean now, even before any changes such as the OP suggests), I'd do it. If they implemented anything more severe than what I go through daily, I'd have no choice but to be a smuggler, or become best chums with one.

Darn Nicolas, I know! I'm just saying that cites aren't patrolled heavily enough for anyone to even care about hiring a smuggler.

If cities were oppressed, we would have a job.
