Thread: Why We Need Different Factions

No. It's because there were originally going to be 3 factions, Imperial, Rebel, and Hutt. That's why you can pick the Hutt symbol as an avatar for this forum.

At one point they abandoned the Hutt faction, because it didn't really fit. It was like, Black, White, and Airplane. The Hutts weren't a military organization so they didn't really belong in the war, and the devs had real problems figuring out faction perks and such. I remember the pre-beta boards always seemed awkward when discussing things like that.

What you see on the faction list is the remains of abandoned code.

What I'd personally like to see are two new factions, Hutt and Black Sun, that have their own kind of war (gang war) that aren't necessarily opposed to either Imperials or Rebels. I'm not the first one to bring this idea up though and I probably won't be the last.

It's a shame really, How hard would it actually be to figure out faction perks; if you really had to have them?

I love the Black-Sun idea though...

Initially i'd be happy with just being able to affiliate myself with xx faction...ofcourse there would have to be content added...but really, is this so hard to pull off? Conflict can be had PVP/RP by two rival gangs...the development team would not have to bend over backwards to get this going.

The NPC's are already in place...

Right on, Atama! Haven't seen you since beta!

But Atama's right. I was in on the fight to keep Hutts, and have been fervantly hoping for it's inclusion at some point. I was for any underworld additions.

I was originally going to name this thread What Went Wrong, but I settled on this.

First I pose a question, exactly why is there only two factionsin which to choose from?

Also, Should certain professions i.e Smugglers/BH be on one side or the other(neutral)?

It seems to me that everything has a constant denominator, Rebel/Imperial.

We cant implement "this" because it would be unfair to the rebels; we have to give the Imperials the ability to bypass scanners and such, to promote the Empire ( an example, but what it boils down to)

I can not in right mind be angry at another player who chooses to be a Rebel, but yet whines at the idea that he/she maybe forced into PVP; I cant because ....well what were their options?

You can argue nuetral, but seriously...this is StarWars, people will want to be involved in some sort of way.

give players other options....not only that reasons to choose xy factions.(see content)

Bounty Hunters should have a faction that is all there own , What wouldbe the drawback of having such a faction?

Smugglers, we walk the fence....but to really do it effectively, should we not have a few factions to pick from...some factions to affiliate ourselves with?

If there were more factions; it would make SWG so much more dynamic-Maybe one month faction A is in good standing with the empire and then through the events of a Monthly Story Arch, faction A falls out of favor with the Empire.

Whats wrong with such a thing?

I'm not going to put down alot of what I think here...i'm just posing some questions. I'm not necessarily saying that smugglers shouldnt be reb/Imp...im not saying thatBounty Hunters shouldremain neutral....but wouldnt it be nice to have achoice?

People choose a side for content reasons(some for Rp) I saw it somewhere before but why not have rebel sympathizers...they cant do anything special...no healing overt players...they would be just like neutrals. This would help the RP'ers and the people who dont want to fight(dancers and such).

Is there a real reason why this couldnt work, or isthe current systemjust easier for the developers?

One interesting thing I've discovered is the faction section on the character info screen. Rebel, Imperial and Hutt are the first 3 factions listed, while all the rest are after and in alphabetical order. This leads me to believe that there will be a 3rd major faction (Hutt) released soon.

It would be sweet yes, but everyone would leave rebel or imp tojoin to jabba or black sun factions. Leaving the gcw in even more shambles than it is now. If they made a jabba faction, hopefully they would limit what proffesions could join, maybe smugglers, bounty hunters, stuff like that. The only draw back I see with that, is people would drop their current proffesion to become a bh or smuggler, but since they are both broken proffesions, hopefully people would stick to their current tkm/riflemen template.

How come they didn't change Hutt into Black Sun? Black Sun was a para-military organization, with their own para-military forces and dominance objectives? In the Shadows of the Empire, we can clearly see how Xizor was going for Palpatine's spot.

Hutts are just lazy scheming slugs with too much money and contacts ...

Hutt and Black Sun... I've always liked that idea.

PvP is factioned. sure neutrals can go around /dueling each other, but that's not quite the same. until we see a good PvP system, we might as well only have 2 factions. those two factions are sparse enough as it is, and the reason people don't PvP isn't because they don't have a good selection of faction choices. People don't PvP because PvP in this game is fundamentally flawed.

I was actually thinking that it would be rather nice to have our UnderWorld tree grant us the ability to join such factions Hut/Black Sun/Lady V etc. So every one would not be included.

But with this I would also think that there should be a Rebel Sympathizer faction/group...that would bestrictly for the RP'rs or non-combatants. These people would behave like neutrals, but get to use being a rebel in there bio(parents killed/enslaved by imperial type thing).

Neutrals are essentially sympathetic to the Empire...but now you've separated the crafters and dancers,

this should allow the development team a little more room to up the ante for those who'd like to see things be a little more difficult (increased scans) on a PVP/PVE level.

In a nutshell it separates your soldiers from your posers.

I like this Idea, but I think it would make more sense to have a criminal-law war. So basically all the crime factions( hutt, alkara, valarien ect.) would fight all the law factionsNOT including the empire(corsec, fed-dub, RSF).

I agree with this, and found this old post searching for info on this issue for my character on Kettemoor, who is going to be a Freelance Pilot...

I'm guessin' I'll have her go smugger's alliance, but truly, that's not right for her... she should be working for BLACK SUN... I want her to WORK FOR BLACK SUN... not shoot them for the Smuggler's Alliance (first mission for the Smuggler's Alliance you are fighting black sun) Come on, give the Freelance pilots some choices!!!
