Thread: Smuggling Content given to everyone else in Jump to Lightspeed?

So under the Privateer piloting skills description, it says:

"When running missions for the Hutts or the Smuggler's Alliance, a Privateer is likely to run afoul of local authorities or even the Empire. "

When you say "running missions for the Smuggler's Alliance", that's smuggling, right?

So this means that ANYONE who selects the Privateer piloting profession will be able to do smuggling missions.

Once again, content that should be exclusive to smugglers is given to anyone. What was the first time? When any high-ranking Imperial can avoid contraband scans, or just have a robot to store your sliced items in.....

Weeeee!

There are missions in which you "deliver an item while hostiles attack you" in every profession. I still don't consider [Smuggler's Alliance] pilots to be Smugglers, nor 'Smuggling' - at least not any more than Rebel Pilots or Imperial Pilots might sometimes "smuggle", with a lower-case s - JFreeman - 10/6/04

Read this post. No mention of actual smuggling. More likely, just running combat missions for a different employer

Obviously I read that because I have a quote from it in my message.

Caylin even says in that post that he has a feeling if he wants to feel like he's SMUGGLING, he'll have to take Privateer.

If they're going to put smuggler content into the game, this is where it's going to be first. And if it is there, they have given it to EVERYONE who chooses Privateer as a piloting skill.

And if they DON'T put smuggling in there, then here is yet another missed opportunity at adding smuggler content.

It was mentioned a very long time ago that Smuggler was added to the ground game very quickly. It was added because they saw smugglers as a profession in space, but wanted to have established smugglers on the ground before the space expansion came out.

Well, here's the space expansion. Does this mean they'll have the smuggler more fleshed-out in space now? I highly doubt it. And if they do, the only place it would be is under the Privateer piloting skill, which is going to be accessible to everyone.

The Way i see these missions are going to be is basically how the mission terminal works right now.... theres an employer but it really doesnt matter cuz the missions are random.... and when smuggler revamp comes ... then there would be smugggler terms that offer smugglers a transport (smuggle) mission from planet a to planet b

Call me crazy but i am very optimistic for the future of this game

Yes, they mentioned the Smuggler's Alliance, but they most likely meant that the player would engage in some type of combat (read: non-smuggling) mission for the Smuggler's Alliance.

In response to you concern that they have to give smuggler missions to everyone who is a privateer, No they don't, the same game mechanics that prevent me from walking up to a BH terminal and taking a bounty mission can be used to prevent anyone who isn't a smuggler from getting smuggler missions regardless of who they are a pilot for.

Now about your concerns about smuggler missions actually being in JTL? ... Well, I'm expecting the worst and hopeing for the best.

Good points, but I'm a proven skeptic.

Not only is all this illegal type content being mentioned as part of privateer, but when they start mentioning things like 'black market droids' and so on, I wonder just how far they are going with this.

Let's just say when people are getting illegal goods and services without help/assistance/Skills from smuggler, I get very cautious. Why are these mercenaries who are working for CorSec, sounding like they will be using black-market droids? It should be an exception, not a rule to have those, and they should be available to every faction.

Why? Because this is a roleplaying game where not all of us care to believe that in order to partake in illegal activities as smugglers, we need to go up this privateer branch.

They have made no mention of anything really illegal in Imperial or Alliance pilot skill lines that we could possibly make use of. All that appears to be in the Privateer skill tree. I don't like to be essentially forced into a profession to get around to doing what I've been wanting to do for a year. I'm a rebel through and through, smuggling for them. Yet no mention of that has been made and it sounds as if smugglers alliance only deals with Privateers. Just...great...

We were told we are a space expansion profession, but when I see that we have to probably take up a particular space expansion profession in addition to what we have I start wondering and not in a good way.

I'm normally pretty optimistic also...I think everything will work out fine.

I might be just a little tired of waiting though

I agree that for any semblance of smuggling in JTL, we'll have to take the Privateer line of piloting. My question, though, comes from the line I bolded in your quote. We've been taunted with this statement for months now, but I have yet to see any mention of true smuggling content in JTL. The only hint of it seems to be available to the population at large, not just smugglers. To me, JTLis nothing more than an arcade shooter designed to rope new blood into the game since all of the old blood has left.

I've read there will only be combat missions in JTL when it launches, so not even any transport missions you could pretend is smuggling. I guess they'll get to that later, kinda like the Smuggler Revamp...

We still have Beta to go through. I'm assuming that you at least are going to be accepted into Beta early on, given their statements about smuggler and space. Is there likely to be any chance that they'll change things during Beta once you give them feedback and say how they're forcing smugglers to take a profession they may not want to and perhaps giving abilities to people thatperhaps should be getting it through us and who should not be the only recipients of said abilities?

Ideally, I'd like to see one Piloting profession take up no SP (as is), but if you want to take on two (your faction and privateer) you're charged SP for your second pilot professionas if you were taking an elite profession.

This could of course all be academic should ships such as the YT-1300 etc. be certed in all three professions, with the fighter craft being the only differing certs.
