Thread: Slicing and CSRs

Some of you have raised concern over the changes to the Terms of Service regarding slicing (i.e. stealing a weapon when under the pretence of slicing the weapon for a client), so I asked about it in the Correspondent forum.

CSR’s BruceE was kind enough to comment (thanks again Bruce) .

Firstly, it’s not the TOS that have changed, but rather the Community Standards policies and Reimbursement policies were updated to show what CS have always been doing. There is nothing new in these changes, rather the policies have been clarified.

If you are still worried by this however, Bruce suggests,
“Also tell them to /report any deals they make to feel more secure. If we have a record of an agreement and see that it was broken, we can assist in most cases. We don't get involved if we have nothing to back their claim.”

Hope this answers some of your questions and eases your concerns over slicing in public.

I remember vaguely hearing about this secure trading. What exactly is /report or how exactly does one go about doing it. Does a CSR get involved when such trades were to occur. I mean if I were to slice a person's container who swore there was a crytal in it cause his buddy told him so, just to have them harass me for the rest of the evening would it even be worth doing such secure trading?? Just curious.

/report is not a secured trading, it is the command line to report something to the CSR.

I think what they mean is "if a client refuse to pay and you keep the weapon, do a /report so we have a trace of what happened" You know, in case the client report you for theft. They will see from your own report that the client refused to pay for the slice.

Wes, if I got it wrong, feel free to correct me.

It's still a hassle to perform this work publicly, and personally, I don't want to risk being accused of theft because SOE hasn't seen fit to give us a secure means of doing a slice.

I make more money hunting anyway so its a moot point.

Hi Wes,

Thanks for the effort there - much appreciated!

I guess what bugs me still is that while the report feature is great, it still doesn't help us per se from the customer who's bent on messing with you.

If the customer grabs you at the Coronet Starport with the intent on griefingyou, you can set your price, they can hand over their weapon, do your slice, but if the customer stalls and waits while large blocks of spam text fill your spatial then suddenly starts screaming "YOU STOLE MY WEAPONS YOU THIEF" you could report them, but my understanding is that a report looks at the last 100 lines (?????) I stand to be corrected.

In a case like that what do we do?

Seeing in the Community standards thatretaining weapons when slicing wasspecifically mentioned was just a kick to theunmentionables. I mean - we're smugglers, cads, theifs, rogues (or rougesas some would call them ) and the CS should specifically say "You're dealing with criminals - beware you may lose your weapons"I mean, it defies logic "I'm handing my weapon over to a criminal, but I'm not worried, because the CS says that a criminal can't commit a criminal act" It's kinda like being called a Smuggler and yet not being able to smuggle

<sigh>

</rantoff>

Anyway, and this was suggested in a previous thread - if there is a limit to the recordable spatial text - a way to get around that would be to grab your customer and RP it - "Say, it's a little to crowded here for my liking - let's go somewhere away from the din" and walk far enough away that you're not getting the starport spam.

As always - before people start respondingplease note that my arguement isn't about past events but of events that COULD happen

Cheers

Dat

I'm still amazed this is getting so much attention.

How often are smugglers having to keep items because the customer refuses to pay?

I for one have NEVER had this happen in my 15 months of slicing.

I'd just like to see how often this occurs so we can get a reasonable view of how serious an issue this is.

Well... a MasterSmuggler is often also a Master Pessimist(sp?). And knowing our Smugglers Luck(tm) the poop flys into the ventilation.

Also keep in mind that we are all pretty steamed and need to cool down...

Like I said in my post SpinningCloud, and in most of my posts on this - that this is not based on previous situations but is a hypothetical situation that could happen.

Has it happened to me? Nope, but then I only slice for my friends.

What can I say - I like playing Devil's Advocate. I see a potential for griefing and I want to know what can be done to counter it. As my post says, the easy way around it if you're worried about it, is to slice away from the crowds so you can get a report in if need be.

All I can say is, I'm sorry if this is annoying ya.

Cheers

I haven't sliced publicly in a long time, but in the handful of months I did slice openly, people saying that they paid when they did not, or called me a thief outright, happened about 4 times total. Each time, I told them - in spatial - that they did not pay the agreed upon priceand that I was putting their stuff for sale on the bazaar for 3K, so at least I would get something for my effort. They suddenly were able to cough up the cash so their goods weren't subject to being purchased by others.

The last time it happened, it ticked me off so badly that I just decided to not subject myself to that crapola anymore and stopped slicing for the general public all together. I slice for myself, myfriends and my partner in crime, but that is it. As long as there is no real secure way to perform the transaction, I really don't want anything to do with the general population and slicing for them.

Can't say this is a huge issue for me...

I've only sliced 2 weapons for an actual customer in the last month...

And I've sliced nothing but Imp Mission terminals for the last 2 weeks...surprisingly, I figure I'm averaging about 5k per slice...without the whole hassle of having to screw around with trade windows or dealing with customers upset because they got a 15% Speed slice instead of a 35% Damage slice...

Hey Wes, thanks a million for investigating this. I still am slightly confused with your answer though. Does /report begin recording the next 100 lines of text (spatial, tells, whatever?)? I thought it was the command /log that actually recorded the lines of text. If /report does the same thing, I'd be pretty surprised. Anyways, thanks a ton for your help Wes. 5 stars!
