Agreed...Commandos and Smugglers have a lot in common (which is why I feel a special connection with Smugglers)...We both have an unarmed pre-req we don't use...We both are missing valuable skill mods...and we both have trees that feel fairly useless (should be revamped, combined with another tree, or just plain scraped and replaced)...

The good news (and possibly bad) is that Commandos will see tons of changes when the Combat Balance hits...for us it's mainly a waiting game until that CB hits (that's the bad part)...We got NERF'd bad awhile back in preperation for the CB, but then delay after delay made Commandos more and more disgruntled (soI can understand your feelings over the revamp delay after delay)...Now we just spend our time trying to get any info regarding the CB (we got a pretty good responseto our last 19 Answers question) and we focust on trying to get things out of the "Mini-Publishes"...

These Mini-Publishes seem like the ticket to me...If you can't get a lot changed all at once (thanks to delays), try to get one little thing changed within as many Mini-Publishes as possible...Commandos got their Indoor use of Consumable Weapons FINALLY fixed via slipping something into a Mini-Publish...

So really, Commandos aren't so much "Up in the Air" as the plans for us have already been made...we are just waiting to get "clued in"....

PS...I just sent TH and JustG a PM asking them to keep me in the loop on anything Smuggler related coming up in the next few weeks (while Caylin is away) so I can immediately bring that info back here...

also this thread is for our 19 question not every other profession. You will get no argument from me about other professions (like ranger for example) needing a direction. I dont understand why you feel it is needed to tell people to go look at other message boards when we all know the state of other professions.

Garvin, I used to be a Commando myself....never hit master. Didn't like the Heavy Acid Rifle enough to find that tree worth while. And the Flame Cone 2....is it even a cone wasn't worth it either. Oh well smuggler now. I was curious I heard about a downer change...what is this? I never heard of it.

I was curious about the downer change as well...could someone educate me on that or point me to a good thread regarding the issue...

PS...nobody needs to thank me for helping out here...I feel very much like I owe this Community something...Do you realized how much I've contributed to the /tell hell of "Hey, can you slice these for me?" I wouldn't have my killer Armor and Commando weapons as great as they are without the help of a Smuggler...any improvements you get can only help the rest of us Combat Professions in the long run...

garvin...you ROCK! You'd get my vote for best corr...but...we have Caylin (for now anyway)...and well...you understand.

Anyway...you broke it down pretty well. And if it were up to me, I'd ask the Spice downer question. Simply because, like you pointed out, any "future plans" question will more than likely be met with just that...a "future plans" answer.

The Spice downer though, was something that was slipped in with no warning and no reason, and no word from the devs. On top of that, they gave Caylin the answer, then hamstringed him by telling him he couldn't share with the community, despite the fact that the Spice market took a(nother) huge hit because of this change combined with the fact that Chef foods were killing it anyway.

If Spices were changed in conjuntion with the CB, they could at least do us the service of explaining that to us. While they're at it, they could also explain why they keep "balancing" things with a system that's still 3-4 MONTHS away...

Spice downer change in a nutshell...

Before Change

1. Eat spice
2. Kill for length of spice effect
3. Downer - Stats drop to reflect downer effect
4. Downer wears off, stats instantly return to normal

After Change

1. Eat spice
2. Kill for length of spice effect
3. Downer - stats drop to reflect effect
4. Downer wears off,- stats then begin to regen to normal as if recovering from damage. This results in increased downtime, thus making spices even more unattractive, thus the market for spices grows smaller.

I think I got that right anyway. Someone who is more of a Spice dealer can come in and correct me. I never personally got into that market, so I'm basing this solely on what I've picked up from other discussions.

Before the change, after a spice downer ended, the affected HAM bars went back to max and full. Now, when the downer ends the affected HAM bars go to max but empty (white), so they have to regen up to full.

That's the reason for the question I posted above. I would like to know why this was changed, and why the secrecy. They gave Caylin the reason for the change, but sealed his lips on the matter. Our last question was supposed to be about the change (and Caylin even gave TH the answer), but TH answered the wrong question (supposedly in the mix-up of him wanting/not-wanting tough questions right before FF).

Edit: Typos...

Essentially, the spice downer change is this:

Before change -Spice high, then downer, after the downer wore off your max HAM would regenerate with full HAM for the missing part. (ex. on downer your buffed ham is 500/500 but your max is 1000. the downer lowers the max HAM. After downer your max comes back and you are instantaneously taken to 1000/1000 HAM)

After change - Spice high, then downer, after the downer wears off your max HAM comes back but isn't regenerated. It looks like you have massive damage. (ex. on downer your buffed ham is 500/500 but your max is 1000. the downer lowers the max HAM. After downer your max comes backbut you areleft at500/1000 HAM essentially keeping you on a downer unless there's a medic present to heal the missing HAM)

As far as the question goes......

We NEED these questions answered. We've heard from people at Fan Fest and from others that nothing is going to be changed or added to the profession until our revamp AFTER JtL. The best I think we could hope for is the 2 spices mentioned (Glitterstim and Lyyk) and skill documentation.

Personally, I think what we need to know right now...that is a NEED is why the downer was changed and if we can get skill documentation. Believe or not, a year after release and people still don't believe what everyone tells them about smugglers. Heck, I didn't believe it until I started to get involved. That is sorely needed.

So, in summary....I think Garvin is right. We ain't getting squat until our revamp as far as skills or active fixes go (moves, a weapon, ect). We need to push and push for communication, skill documentation, and information on spice downers.

To be honest the spice downer makes more sense the way it is. Nerfs are in the eye of the beholder after all. We don't need information on it because it was obviously a change to make spices work the way they were intended to. I think it'd be better to at least try to get little nuggets of change from them on the way to the revamp, rather than answer a question we already know the answer to.

In my personal opinion, with Green Marine's post today (stickied it at the top of the forum)...I'd be leaning more to the spice related question then the "what's coming" question...I get the feeling from Green that he will be giving you that info hopefully soon...I tried to stick that question in Green's post for a response (so we could get that question out of the way) but he hasn't fully responded to that yet (my guess is it was on purpose because he really doesn't know for sure if anything is coming prior to the revamp...and if he doesn't know, I can guarentee TH probably doesn't know)...

So should we go with the Spice question in light of GM's recent post (and future posts coming) or should should we go with the Revamp question anyway? Nothing says we have to go with either if someone has a better question out there that the community would support...

Yes. I think if we already are having revamp related discussions then out 19Q submission for the next few months should be as un-revamp related as possible. The spice downer recovery fits that well.

However, without trying to get too abrasive I think we need to get the wording of the question to address the stonewalling we've recieved over this issue as well. The question as written in the opening post of this thread makes it too easy for TH to respond in half a sentence and then move off the topic to address the future. The Spice change deserves the full answer. We need to reword it and replace "Also, what if any, other incremental changes can we expect between now and our Smuggler re-vamp", to something communication related. We deserve to know why there was no acknowledgement of the change at all - be it bug or intentional - on this since publish 7. Why it never made any test center pub notes or the final pub 7 release notes. And we need to know what the resoning behind Caylin knowing what is "up" for at least a month but the smuggler profession as a whole not being privy to that information.
