Thread: Retirement for the Queen of the Smugglers?
From the look of the new things for CHs to play with, they are finally giving back to the profs that need the attention.
This could bode well for smugglers.
Anugs, do you have to slap everyone around all of the time? Geeze!
The word on the smuggling missions is that they have already been coded, and they are just filling in the text boxes. Well, that is what we were told over a month ago.
My feeling is that it really will be soon(TM). They just altered the existing BH missions by putting in random "Boss" marks that drop good loot. Maybe the slight glimmer of hope is that they got the idea from what they are doing or will do to smuggling missions.
Another bright hope is that the devs have been giving us attention on our combat moves. I like the changes they are making to them, especially making some of the shots actually functional. We DID also get a slicing overhaul, yet some don't really like it. I DO like the slicing changes, but my only complaint is that young/unprepared smugglers are having a tough time getting hold of the simple toolkits and finely crafted toolsets. I like the loot-based slicing system because it gives me something to DO.

Only you. Twice. Once for mispelling my name, the other for being dense.

Seriously... did you not see the winky little smiley? That usually denotes when someone is joking around or something similar. You really need to work on recognizing that, bud.
Geeze! It looks like Angus has gotten into the liquor cabnet again. It might be time to teach him a lesson if he keeps up being froggy.

The positive outlook is the long shot that SOE might just blow us away with what they've been doing. Call me nuts, but I still acknowledge that possibility despite my disgruntled nature.. thus I'm giving them a little more time than most here to see if they'll do it. (Plus, I prepaid a few months.)
These forums are negative lately, but that's always surrounded us - SOE's PR has never treated us right.

It would be a shame to see you give up Smuggler. For me being a Smuggler has always meant more than the specials or the skills. It has always been about how I play and the way I interact with everyone else. Long before I made Master Smuggler, I established a backstory and an in-game business which allowed me to "smuggle" for other players in an RP setting. In short, I chose to be a Smuggler because it made sense for the type of character I wanted to play. I did not choose the Smuggler profession first and then adjust my character. My intentions for my character dictated the profession I chose, not the other way around.
I have never had many credits and although it would be nice to make more, I have seldom looked at Smuggler as a way to make a fortune...for me it was a way to scrape by, just like a lot of low-to-mid-level underworld types IRL. Part of the mystique for me has been the unpredictable nature of our profession.
Much like for yourself, playing a Smuggler and RPing a Smuggler has been more than just writing fiction for the Forums. It means playing out the actions in-game. When I write a bit of RP for the Forums, it is based on something I have done or something I am in the middle of doing in-game.
It may not beeveryone's bag, but I am trying to get involved in "day-to-day" RP more lately. Instead of putting together large events (which you do VERY well), I am trying to find more ways to act the Smuggler every time I log on.Even the contracts I do (locate and procure this item because someone else is too lazy to do it themself) for other players are an opportunityto RP for me. So many people get hung up on making credits and/or grinding in this game...it almost becomes like a secondjob for many players. We all lose perspective on why we play...and forgetthat the operative word is indeed "play."
Please don't let GM's leaving change your perception of the game. Not to slight GM, but in all honestly when was the last time he was allowed (by SOE) to implement somethingwhich made a large improvement in the Smuggler profession? Sure, we have seen some improvements to our combat skills, but Slicing is still uninteresting, Spices are only marginally profitable for most players, and after 2 years we still can't Smuggle. In other words, we have seen very little improvement to our profession in two years, yet I KNOW that you have had fun playing a Smuggler. If you claim your decision to stay Smuggler was based on the hope that he would change things for the better, than I submit you aren't looking at things the right way. What made the game fun and interesting while you were waiting for SOE to implement Smuggler improvements? There was no reason to log on and play if the only thing you (or we) are doing is hoping for something to change with our profession. We could all save a ton of RL money if we just watched the patch notes and cancelled our subscriptions...but I think when we take a step back our reasons for playing Smuggler involve a lot more than hope for a future improvement. I agree that there isreason to lose some hope now that GM is gone, but I haven't been playing swg and having fun because of hope.
Anyway, those are some random thoughts on the subject. I have no idea if you will find any value in them or not. As always, I will be in-game at least a few nights this week, and would love to get together and have some fun with you.
