What! Ranger gets urban stealth and stealing? What the heck is so outdoorsy ranger is that? And isn't that what Smuggler has been asking for since launch?

Definitely NOT asking for stealing. We are not thieves. (Not from regular citizens, anyway... skimming, now that we might do.)


The majority of Smugglers (well the vocal ones) have rejected the notion of being able to steal.

Point is ranger isn't currently really viable, being "creature centric", effectively blocking rangers from participating/using their skills in OVER HALF what little content swg has to offer. Taking the army ranger type revamp was logical for fixing a profession much much much worse off than smuggler. Forget the outdoorsy stereotype you ever had of ranger. SOE definitely has.

much much worse off than smuggler? no, but in pretty bad shape, yes.


and to the original poster, no. no one has been asking to make us petty thieves. we want to take part in organized crime. there is a HUGE difference. if, and i do mean IF the smuggler changeshit live, it is pretty close to what we have been asking for.

Actually if they work on an organized crime type system I could see smugglers and the revamped rangers working more closely together on thing (missions, quests, etc.)

Nice to see that they are at least fixing ranger now to make it viable, the whole enhanced scout thing was a pretty weak idea. Now scout will have all of what ranger used to have, thus make a master scout very good for those who really like to center around pve and the whole hunting thing. Rangers post revamp seem to the profession closely tied to the GCW, with all the explosive devices, stealth and tracking.


I really want to see the smugglers get there content though. I have played a squad leader since launch and have combined sl with ranger and with smuggler. Both templates were fun , I think sl, smuggler, and ranger are the 3 most unique professions in this game. Ranger with SL will be a very good support type of template IMO.

Quimby, melding into the shadows (urban and wilderness) is exactly what rangers are meant to do.

Let me make it clear for those that don't get it yet:

Smuggling:
The 'art' of transporting illegal cargoes from one place to another, while avoiding authorities.

This does not include picking pockets and covering one's self with camo paint. The stealth part of smuggling, is knowing which routes to take to avoid authorites, and perhaps (relative to the context we play in) maintaining a vessel with systems that make it harder to locate.

Is this clear at all?

lol, I took a SWG break for several weeks now, including the Forum and any other pages. A friend just told me about what they want to do with the Ranger, and so I thought "go and look at the Smuggler-Forum, ya can be sure that there are some peops moaning about the ideas for ranger" and LOL, I was so damn fkn right ^^

But honestly, come one, a smuggler is not a little thief brat, I m a businessman, I wont make my hands dirty in the unclean pockets of common people!

Do you want to be a SMUGGLER, or a Rouge?!?

What I find interesting is that one of the posters mentioned that most of the new rangers stuff is community ideas, and that the devs are actually listening to them (or listening to their correspondent). This may be good new for everybody.

I don't know about anyone else but this smuggler/theving crap is jsut that crap. Most smugglers keep a good rep and even though we represent some of the seedier sides of society we are NOT theives. Who do we steal money from? No one, we are supposed to SMUGGLE, run blockaids and generally exploit the system at be. Hell, what we do is only a crime cause we aren't a goverment agency.

Not entirely sure, but consider something like this. The item you'd be stealing would be something like a set of plans or similar. Perhaps something regarding bases, etc. So it wouldn't be like a personal item but geared to the GCW. I think thats what they are aiming for. Covert Ops kinda thing. Its 0626 here and I'm a bit tired so my explanation may be a bit poor. Forgive me.
