Hi all, novice smuggler here still. I read the FAQ regarding support profs, and I'm torn between commando and pistoleer. I'm wondering if any who have 'real' experience (ie, just how nerfed are these profs) using them.
Pistoleer makes sense to help in getting XP in smuggler, but commando looks fun to blow stuff up.
I do plan on pvping at some point, assuming I can figure out the l33t pwned talk when someone kills me.
Thanks!

my cousin has been master commando for quite some time, and he always tells me he's fed up with the nerfs and broken functions.
I have master pistoleer, and it seems like most of the specials there are broken. however, the ones that work, work very well and I used them a lot (before I took up the VK and started punching things)

Yes it's sad but true that when you head for a tripple master, quite often you don't have a reason to use your pistol since TKA is way more effective and both have only light armor piercing.

Well, I'm almost a master pistoleer and I've never won a fight against a TKA. My advice is, take the profession that is most favourably unbalanced for now. Forget all that commando and pistoleer nonsense and get serious about Teras Kasi.

i am a triple master and i do use both pistoleer and tk, granted tk is much more powerful, but pistoleer with a good geo pistol and the smuggler specials, low blow, last ditch, with fan shot, is pretty awesome. in pvp how ever pistoleer does not fair well becuase we have no mind damage shot. but pve, pistoleer/tkm are awesome, especially if you can get mobs to bunch together, fan shot works wonders took down a patrol of stormies in under1 min, all 11 of them. so that is the best way to go, if you want defense stacking for pvp , go fencer/pistoleer/smuggler

You're talking some big grinding there. Focus on finishing smuggler. By the time you're done, the revamp docs will be out and you can pick the profession you will enjoy the most then.

Pistoleer is very effective against stormies, that's right but mostly I encounter enemies who come up close and then TKA is the right choice again. In addition, to be a "really" effective pistoleer you need pistols which cost millions of creds and skill tapes which cost more millions.

Excellent point! The reason I'm asking is I read that getting pistoleer makes getting smuggler easier (does that make sense?), but I thought why get pistoleer if Commando is more fun- I've already got pistol, unarmed and ranged combat. So it's more a case of where to grind the low-end stuff for marksman toward commando, and the high pistol toward smuggler, or get pistoleer first. Does that make sense at all?

From every hint I've seen, it sounds like the goal of the revamp is to truly balance all professions. So, in the end it's more about what you will enjoy more than what will the the most effective template will be. Pistoleer is easy enough to grind. You'll take 100x longer grinding commando and smuggler.

well i like just pistoleer, also getting bounty pistols adds some nice specials and more speed/accuracy. but commando is pretty fun, just try em both and which ever you enjoy more carry on with

I'm not taknig from the point of 'uber-l33t' killing, I just have found that the specials don't always act as advertised. Not from a broken mechanic every time, but from lack of information. the manual/ online manual leaves alot to be desired from a gameplay standpoint. I see alot of posts about profs not working as advertised for whatever reason. I don't wanna be the terminator, but i do want to play!
Smuggler itself is a perfect example. The profession text has alot of flavour text about smuggling, which those in the know know very well there is no smuggling.

actually, a t21 is better than a laser carbine because it has heavy armor piercing.......thats, all just some information

A t21 usually has 7.0 or greater speed and horribleaccuracy mods too.
